Books, Hats, and Cheer: 2012 Holidays!

I may or may not be humming the theme from “Home Alone” as I write this. Okay, fine. I am. Hope all of you are keeping the holiday spirit alive this weekend! It’s a bit colder in New York, and there was a good amount of snow this afternoon. (Not much of it stuck to […]

Alexa Y. - I love Christmas! I wish it didn’t have to end already. Love all the presents you featured here, and I’m super glad you liked the bookmark :)

December 31, 2012 - 11:48 am

Nikki @ Foil the Plot - I am totally loving all of the bookish gear, lady. You now have me thinking that I need to invest in a nookish sweater for my little e-reader too! Glad the holidays were a raging success! Happy New Year!

December 31, 2012 - 5:19 am

VeganYANerds - I love your cupcake hat! I’ve seen them online but didn’t know if I’d wear it much (it doesn’t get *that* cold here in winter). And I hope you love Along for the Ride!!

December 31, 2012 - 1:53 am

Laura @ the Booksmartie - I love this! I’m a big fan of the holidays – Christmas is by far my favorite and I always love to see people enjoy it instead of stressing out :) And that hat is adorable!!! 😀

December 30, 2012 - 1:08 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Awww…you’re so cute in your cupcake hat! I hope you enjoy Along for the Ride — I read it last year on our honeymoon and you can never go wrong with a Sarah Dessen novel =)

I get to keep my tree up until at least January 7th, since we also celebrate Serbian Christmas! Hope your tree can stay up that long too — just tell your family that you’re celebrating a second Christmas too, multi-culturalism and all that, right?

Magan’s Shelve It: December 30, 2012

Howdy, howdy! Happy (almost) 2013! It feels so good to be back in the swing of things and to have books to share with you guys in this week’s Shelve It. I was kind of on a self-imposed-book-ban to help save up for the holidays. Never fear! I’m back with lots of awesome! *All […]

December 30, 2012 - 4:51 pm

VeganYANerds - Yay! Happy New Year to you, Magan – and Estelle! :)

I want that person to return Ruby Oliver #4 already! Is it overdue? Sometimes I put something on hold at my library and they send the person a reminder so a. they can’t renew it again and b. they end up returning it. Anyway, Frankie is also awesome, and I hope you love her story!

I hope you get to wear your new dress out tonight (well tomorrow night for you!)

December 30, 2012 - 12:17 pm

The Bumble Girl - Hi pretty girl! You are so very sweet!
I adore Susane Colasanti and all the books that I have been able to read by her! She is such a great and inspirational person! I highly recommend Keep Holding On as your next book by her!
Great adult reads too! I should try to read a few of those next year too :)
Hope you and Estelle have a wonderful New Year’s! xo

December 30, 2012 - 11:49 am

Melissa - My Ideal Bookshelf sound like a great book…love to peek into other’s shelves…and I’ve been curious about On The Island myself. Hope you enjoy it and Happy New Year!!

Lori - I adore the Heist Society books! They are so much fun. I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

December 30, 2012 - 3:09 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - YOU ARE SO CUTE! Seriously. Especially the “y’all”s =) I will totally give you bonus points for venturing into the adult section … it can be a scary, uncertain kind of place. And there’s SO MANY MORE BOOKS in that section. It’s a little daunting. Happy New Year to you both — can’t wait for more of your amazing reviews in 2013! Mwah!

December 30, 2012 - 12:10 am

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - This was such a cute v-log Magan! Yay for finally buying books!! I’m glad you went crazy at Half Price Books too, I visited that place this week as well, but managed to restrict myself to 3 books. 😉 But Crazy sounds really neat. I mean, a kid’s father is going crazy. Sign me up as well! 😉 I’ve heard amazing things about Heist Society, it seems like such a fun book. I’ll be looking out for your review of that one before I decide if I should pick it up for myself or not. And I’m glad you managed to venture into the Adult section at B&N! 😉 I totally feel comfortable in the YA section myself, so I totally understand what you mean by that. But it’s great that you venturing out and trying some more genres! I plan to do that in 2013 as well, within different genres of YA, since I mainly read fantasy/dystopia.

Fantastic haul Magan! This v-log makes me want to meet you so badly… perhaps at TLA this year? *hint hint* Enjoy your lovelies and have a fabulous new year! <3

December 30, 2012 - 12:04 am

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Oooooh em GEEEE!! I hope you love it!! 😀 Keep me posted!!

January 2013 Young Adult Book Releases

Oh, hi there! Yup. We’re moving on to 2013. Can you believe it? A new year? HOW DID 2012 GO BY SO QUICKLY? It seems like I was just waiting for The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith and Cinder by Marissa Meyer. There are tons and tons of […]

December 29, 2012 - 11:09 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - Magan, you are totally right about 2013 starting off with a huge bang! Seriously, I’m about to start drooling over all these pretties. SO many of these books are ones I’ve been waiting forever for, like Asunder, Prodigy, Everbound, and Through the Ever Night. I can’t wait to see what these sophomore authors have in store for us next with their second books!! I’m also really looking forward to The Archived. I’ve only seen gushing reviews of it so far, and it sounds so utterly unique. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Level 2 is also look fantastic! AND it’s written by a book blogger, so it really can’t get better than that. 😉 It’s going to be one of the few debuts that I preorder, I believe.

Thanks so much for putting this lovely post together, Magan! January 2013 is going to be fabulous!

December 29, 2012 - 10:31 pm

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - I want to comment on all of these books, but that would take forever. I *will* say that I’ve read Revolution 19 and it was fun. I JUST finished Prodigy and WOW WOW WOW. Also, since I base lots of my reading on covers (I know, I know, shallow Asheley?) I may have a tough time choosing from these because ALL of these covers are so great. And I already want to read them all. The beginning of 2013 is SUCH a great, exciting time to be a fan of YA!

December 29, 2012 - 9:23 pm

Lisa the Nerd - Level 2! Level 2! Level 2!

December 29, 2012 - 8:46 pm

Magan - Gaby – you’re such a sweetheart! These posts do take me a while, but that’s usually because wordpress decides to format things oddly and it drives me nuts. Haha! So happy you’re looking forward to so much. I swear I’ll spend all my Christmas money in January! 😉

Mands — I love the repackage too. I’ve only read one Caletti book so I’m definitely anxious for more!

Sara — I know, right?! SO much awesome!

December 29, 2012 - 8:45 pm

Magan - Me, too, Lily. There are SO MANY good books coming out!

December 29, 2012 - 8:26 pm

Lily - January is going to be such a good month for new releases I’m super excited… I just wish my bank account could say the same.

December 29, 2012 - 7:13 pm

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - This list is AMAZING. I’m talking mostly about the fact that you compiled it. What’s on it is also pretty great. Not to mention, I’m excited about a lot of things on it, especially Just One Day, All You Need is Love, Then You Were Gone, Paper Valentine, Return to Me and Nobody But Us. Thanks for all the hard work! ^_^

December 29, 2012 - 4:09 am

VeganYANerds - 2012 really did fly by, I can’t believe it!

I got all excited when I saw Love Is All You Need, thinking it was a new book by Deb but then I see it’s a re-package. Still, I love the title and the cover!

Also, can’t wait for Falling for You – have just heard good things about it!

December 29, 2012 - 12:09 am

Sara (of the Page Sage) - Ah! Too many awesome books! I’m especially excited for Just One Day, The Archived, and Paper Valentine.

Estelle: WEVerb12 Prompts (15, 18, 20, 24, 26)

December is always so unbelievably busy… I’ve done a terrible job keeping up with WEverb12 but the best thing about this project is you can jump in whenever you can. So I’m back to look at some of the questions I missed. If you’re looking to reflect on the year, be sure to visit weverb12.com. […]

VeganYANerds - These are some lovely memories and photos, Estelle! I’m going to check out the website and find out more about WeVerb

December 28, 2012 - 12:26 pm

Alexa Y. - I actually just caught up on WEverb posts this week as well, so I definitely agree when I say that I think it’s awesome that you can jump in at any time!

This is a lovely post. I’m happy that I can actually say we were friends already during most of the big things you mentioned (your cruise, moving out of your house and into the apartment) – I think it’s pretty rad.

Here’s to more joy and fun and bookish adventures in 2013!

December 28, 2012 - 12:34 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Such great responses, Estelle, and I love the pics that you included too! I, too, kind of fell off the WEverb wagon, but I like how you said that you can just jump in when you can. I was going to pre-post a bunch leading up to the holidays, but it seemed to kind of defeat the purpose of reflecting a bit at a time, so I opted to just have the holiday week off, then jump back in.

And I totally agree with you that more joy = no negativity, as hard as that may be sometimes. Here’s to a super positive 2013!

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - Oh my goodness gracious, Estelle!
My heart SWELLS with all of these feelings that I’m having right now about how much I want to read this book. I can’t even tell you how much I want to read it. I have to find it.

(YAY, I just checked and my library has a copy! YAY!)

December 27, 2012 - 4:54 am

VeganYANerds - Wonderful review, Estelle! I’m so glad this book was more of what you were expecting in a story about the Shore. I’ve had it on my to-read list for ages and I don’t even know why. The fact that it’s about sisters really appeals to me!

December 26, 2012 - 4:12 pm

Alexa Y. - Oh wow! This book sounds really great. I love that it’s about sisters, and I love how it features the both of them dealing with their own separate issues. It’s an intriguing book, and I definitely think I need to read this.

I’m glad it served as a nice reminder to you of the Jersey Shore. I’ve only been twice, but it made me sad too to see what happened after Sandy hit :(

December 26, 2012 - 1:21 pm

elena - aww i’m so glad it brought out memories for you and proved to be a refreshing read. i love that they have similar issues (like with skate and her bf, rosie and wondering about her love live) yet remain their own person. great review!

December 26, 2012 - 11:18 am

Hollie @ Music, Books and Tea - I hadn’t heard of this one before I saw your review, but you’ve made me want to hunt out a copy of it! I love that this doesn’t seem to be a typical sibling book where they spend all their time together too, and that it seems to deal with some tough issues too. Great review! :)

VeganYANerds - I don’t often read much MG but for this I would make an exception. I love books set in the 80s and I don’t mind kids that sound older because I know I was quite a mature kid so it sounds realistic.

Great review, Estell, I’ll check it out!

December 26, 2012 - 4:09 pm

Alexa Y. - I remember you telling me and Rachel about this book when we went out for dinner. It sounds pretty cute, and I like the sound of these characters. I may give this one a try, just for the heck of it!

December 21, 2012 - 6:43 pm

Sophia - This book sounds like a whole bunch of fun, and a ton of cute! I don’t often read books that aren’t YA, but I might make an exception for this one if I ever want to take a break from teen. Lovely review, Estelle! :)

December 21, 2012 - 2:05 pm

elena - i liked that you said “mega important.” this sounds like a cute story and totally one i can see as a bedtime story too, even if the impact was not as great as you wanted. your review made me feel good!
