Estelle: Shelve It (12/15/2012)

First of all, WHAT? An early Shelve it?? It’s Saturday! And second, a v-log?! Yes! You heard right! [Excuse the shakiness. I’m still not sure where to tape these in my new place, and I was balancing my computer on pillows. ha!] Books from YA for NJ: My Life in Black & White by Natasha […]

VeganYANerds - That is a lot of money, what a fantastic thing to do and be a part of!

My eyes were drawn to Star Crossed write away, OMG!!! I bet it’s going to be awesome and I hope you can get through that stack of books so you can finally read it 😀

December 18, 2012 - 7:01 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - OMG STAR CROSSED!!! Dying to read that one! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! 😀 Also, I love that you won 4 books from the auction. I won one auction myself. 🙂

December 17, 2012 - 3:43 pm

Anna - SECOND HELPINGS! STARCROSSED! I CANNOT HANDLE THE GOODNESS OF THIS POST!

December 17, 2012 - 9:27 am

Cynthia - Yay!!! I’m so glad you got your package!! I am so jealous about Star Crossed!! I love Jennifer Echols and yay for all the awesome books and the money they were able to raise on YA for NJ!! Enjoy! =D

December 16, 2012 - 2:12 pm

April Books & Wine - ERMAGHERD I am so so so jealous of Starcrossed.

YAY FOR SECOND HELPINGS, I think that is my favorite Jessica Darling book of the whole series.

ALSO.

ALSO.

I am dancing a little over how awesome your YA For NJ bid package was. 🙂

December 15, 2012 - 8:54 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Awww — I’ve missed your vlogs! I’m going to try to do one soon … now that I have a webcam on our new laptop! I’m mildly envious that you actually got to OPEN your Secret Santa present — my hubby made me put mine under the tree and wait ’til Christmas =P Oh well, the anticipation’s half the fun, right? I hope I’ll also have a Jennifer Echols book under the tree as well — she was on the wishlist that I gave to my hubby as one of my top picks. Based on your rave reviews, I’m really excited to read her books!

December 15, 2012 - 7:52 pm

Rebecca @ Reading Wishes - Wow, $13, 000 is amazing! I totally would have brought something from the auction but they were only shipping to the US so I couldn’t 🙁 Oh well, it seems like they did a great job of raising money! I haven’t read anything by Niki Burnham so will be interested to see what you think of her books. I only just found out about The Girl in the Wall a few weeks ago but it looks really good and I’ve heard great things about it. Second Helpings! I read Sloppy Firsts earlier this year but am looking forward to continuing the series. Star Crosses – sqee! I love Jennifer Echols and even though I don’t read Adult, it sure does look amazing! I’m even tempted to read it anyway ;D

Amazing book haul and I hope you get to read all the books you want to read before the year is over. Go you!

Alexa Y. - You guys have chosen to do an incredibly brave, adventurous thing – and I’m excited for you both! There are so many interesting possibilities ahead and I believe you’ll have lots of fun, amazing new moments in your new place.

December 11, 2012 - 5:30 am

Hemborgwife - I understand totally we moved around the same time as you and I cried leaving our old place as well even though we had only lived there 10 months it was our first place in Sweden and our biggest place at that time!

December 11, 2012 - 12:15 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - This is such a great post, Estelle! I know how you feel (well, a little) since my husband and I moved three times in two years, before we were married. We now live in a little two bedroom condo, but it’s the first place that we’ve owned together. Even though I know that our little home will one day be too small for our family, it will be hard to say goodbye to this place, the first place that was OURS. But it’s exciting for you and your husband that you’re off to new adventures, and kudos to you both for being brave enough to take that leap of faith!

Estelle: Shelve It (12/9/2012)

Hi friends! Welcome to this week’s Shelve It! Are you having a good weekend? I think this is the first weekend in awhile where I set out to do things + actually accomplished them. Hopefully as you read this, I will be decorating my Christmas tree in my new apartment. (Or about to after a […]

Alexa Y. - I am totally jealous that you have What Happens Next in your hands! That bit she read at Books of Wonder was absolutely hilarious 🙂

December 10, 2012 - 10:38 pm

Lisa the Nerd - Look at all of those cute covers! <3

December 9, 2012 - 2:48 pm

Sara (of the Page Sage) - Lovely, Dark, and Deep looks really intriguing. As far as holiday recs go, I haven’t read it yet but there’s always Let it Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson. (:

December 9, 2012 - 2:22 pm

Kailia @ Reading the Best of the Best - Ahhh Just Listen is one of my favorite SD books EVER! I can’t wait to see what you think! I need to read What Happens Next too; it’s been on my TBR pile for sooo long!

December 9, 2012 - 1:06 pm

The Bumble Girl - I really like the look to all of these covers! I have yet to read one of Alison Noel’s contemporary’s. I really like her Riley Bloom series, and I enjoyed Fated a lot. I look forward to seeing what you think of Kiss & Blog, sounds cute!
I can’t wait to read Austensibly Ordinary – sounds perfect!
Great list of reads, enjoy 🙂

December 9, 2012 - 12:16 pm

Vy - The cover of Lovely Dark and Deep is so pretty! Really interested in reading your thoughts on that. Hope you’ll enjoy your new reads, Estelle!

December 9, 2012 - 7:51 am

Lori - I’m so curious about Lovely Dark and Deep. I can’t wait to see your thoughts!

December 9, 2012 - 1:36 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Just Listen is one of my favourite Dessen books of ALL TIME. I’ve read it two or three times. I think you’ll really like the book, since you’re passionate about music – that aspect of the storyline really spoke to me.

Lovely Dark and Deep is on my Christmas wishlist. The premise sounds intriguing and the cover is so gorgeous. I’ll have to wait and see which book(s) hubby picked off the list and wrapped under the tree!

The Big Kids’ Table: Holiday Shopping Guide Edition

Friends, I can’t believe I am writing my 12th Big Kids’ Table post right now. When I started up this idea in January, I wanted to open up my reading world to new books, even though I had found a new and lovely home in the young adult genre. For me, it’s always best for […]

Alexa Y. - I am ashamed to admit that I have not read any of the adult titles in this post, even though a bunch of them are on my TBR! I really should remedy that…

December 11, 2012 - 5:26 am

Hemborgwife - You cracked me up about the mom safe books because my grandma loves to read and loves to read Nora Roberts and the like and some of the books she has given me when she was done I was like ummmmmm yeah that was some serious sexy-time going on and I do not want to think my grandma just read this!

December 8, 2012 - 8:12 pm

Jess - What a great list. I want to check out The Empty Glass.

December 8, 2012 - 4:55 am

Rebecca @ Reading Wishes - “My mom has always been a fan of romance novels and I keep thinking of books I may want to gift her… but I’m a little uncomfy giving her ones with super sexytimes.” YES. Yes, yes, yes! I TOTALLY get where your coming from. My mum’s the same and loves romance novels and I’m often recommending her titles I think sound good or I’ve heard about through book bloggers who read a bit of Adult like Ginger from Greads. I know there’s sexytimes in all the books she reads but when I’m the one choosing her a book I’m a little cautious and go for more subtle titles that don’t ooze too super sexytimes in the premise and one’s where the covers aren’t of half naked people (although she does like those, I must admit). Thanks for all the great adult recommendations! I think my mum will love all these so I’ll be sure to look into them further. I’ve heard great things about Rainbow Rowell and I know her titles are available at my local library so I think when she’s reading Attachments, I’ll be reading Eleanor & Park – sounds like a plan!

December 8, 2012 - 1:51 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Another great list! Everytime I see you tweet about another Big Kids’ Table post, I always hurry over to see what you’ve recommended. I don’t read nearly enough big kids’ books, but I totally should. And I LOVED your YA picks for the big kids’ table — especially Second Chance Summer. I think the themes in that book will resonate with readers of all ages. Great choices!

December 7, 2012 - 6:56 pm

elena - I’m so glad you enjoyed Attachments so much. I still need to read Saving Ruth, it sounds FANTASTIC! Hooray for Second Chance Summer. 🙂

December 7, 2012 - 4:56 pm

Allison (Allure of Books) - Attachments, City of Women and I’ll Be There are all on my list – sigh. I waaaaant them.

I love LOVE that you feature adult books <3

December 7, 2012 - 4:03 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - I LOVE that you share adult titles! You rock my world.

Also thanks for the reminder that I need to get The Empty Glass from the library.

December 7, 2012 - 12:50 pm

Sharon @ The Book Barbies - Ooh, thanks for the list! I just discovered Susan Mallery this year, and I need to read more of her books. I could see her writing a fantastic Christmas novel.

I heard about Attachments quite a while ago and was hesitant to read it. It sounded like it could be good, but I probably wasn’t going to jump in and actually read it. After reading your thoughts, though, I just might!

Also, YES. I am so glad someone else hates the term “new adult!” I have always wished for more books with that age group, and I love that it is finally becoming recognized as a credible genre. But I can’t stand the name.

December 7, 2012 - 12:19 pm

Tara - How have I only read one of these?!?! I seriously need to read your copy of City of Women stat because it’s borderline ridiculous that I haven’t yet.

December 7, 2012 - 11:53 am

Anna - My sister would pee her pants if she saw this but I’m not going to show her because she will start in on the Harry Potter thing! She was the big sister so when a new book would come out, we’d go out at midnight and get it, but then SHE would get to read it first. I distinctly remember this — Little Sister Syndrome! So the books were our “shared” books and therefore I do not have custody of them and they’re at our parents house wahhh!

Jasmine Rose - I’m not going to lie. I totally cried while watching Paperman.

December 4, 2012 - 1:18 pm

Alexa Y. - I am a HUGE fan of the Pixar shorts, and any Disney animated shorts, so obviously, I’m pretty sure I’m going to LOVE these two. I haven’t been able to catch either Brave or Wreck-it Ralph yet, but I hope to soon!

December 4, 2012 - 7:11 am

April Books & Wine - I loved Paperman! I remember wanting to clap after watching it, but then not clapping because that would be weird.

December 3, 2012 - 9:46 am

Shayla - ‘Trust in adventure always’ sounds like an excellent motto to me!

December 2, 2012 - 10:30 pm

Tara - I’ve never heard of WEverb before but it sounds super fun! I look forward to reading what you guys come up with 🙂

December 2, 2012 - 8:28 pm

Kelly - Paperman was adorable! (And Wreck-It Ralph had me in tears from laughing and then from feel goodness!).

I have no clue what WeVerb12 is, but I’m off to check it out!
