Phone a (Meant to Be) Friend | Pub Date

We made it! Another week in the bag — and I hope it was a great one. I’m so excited for this month’s PUB DATE theme. We’re roping our friends (outside of the #pubdate square) to pair their own books and brews. Today I’m happy to feature Nisha, one of my closet friends and someone […]

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Oooh I love the combination! And happy (late) birthday!!!
The beer sounds really, really good! And I just love Meant to Be. I really appreciated how Julia grew throughout the book. I need to re-read it soon!

June 2, 2015 - 11:15 am

Alexa S. - Oh, I love this book + beer pairing! It was great to read Nisha’s thoughts, and I hope she’s back on your blog more often 😉

The Big Wave & A Big Break | Pub Date

Friends, I am in a vacation state of mind. Every time an email from Jet Blue pops up in my inbox, I’m immediately scheming and dreaming. No plans on the docket for us, at the moment, but I’m hoping that will change soon… or maybe something magical will happen and I’ll be able to teleport […]

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - I didn’t realize Famous in Love was set in Hawaii!!! Man, I really do wish we had gone there on our honeymoon. Maybe we’ll travel someday for an anniversary trip 😉 I really want to visit Hawaii so badly!
I do like Kona brewing a lot! I don’t know if I’ve ever had Big Wave but I generally always like their beers!

May 1, 2015 - 11:02 am

Alexa S. - That beer looks so yummy! And I think a beer would be a mighty fine idea right now…

Can I Be So Blunt | Pub Date

So. I’m not much of a St. Patrick’s Day fan. It seems like most of the people here use St. P’s as a day to drink a lot of beer and get tipsy and well, I drink beer because I like the taste so there’s really nothing exciting in me taking part in a day like […]

It's a Wrap • See Ya Next Year, March! - […] Little Kids: Books About Feelings Dive Into Diversity: They Work Hard for the Money Pub Date: Can I Be So Blunt […]

March 11, 2015 - 11:21 am

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - I still can’t believe I’m friends with someone who isn’t an IPA fan. I’ve never seen this beer before but I’m going to try to hunt it down somewhere on Long Island. Oddly I requested this book from the library the other day after kind of forgetting back it for a few months. Yay!

March 6, 2015 - 4:03 pm

Alexa S. - I love your book choice! Love and Other Foreign Words is an excellent read. Funny too, and the “Can I be so blunt?” statement could apply to Josie if I recall correctly 🙂

March 6, 2015 - 9:07 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - I’m with you! We don’t do anything for St. Patrick’s Day (aside from the corned beef now…) and meh, I don’t need to drink tons of beer. I mean, I drink the beer that I want and beer is for me to enjoy!
The University of Illinois has “Unofficial” every year which is “unofficial St. Patrick’s Day”……. but then they also have St. Patrick’s Day haha. I’ve never understood it because they basically celebrate it twice, but I’ve gone a couple times to visit friends since I was only 45 minutes away when I was in college and it was fun to join in the spirit and drink green beers and wear lots of green.
But now….. EH. We don’t do anything. I’d rather drink a good beer and eat good food ;D Any excuse for those (although we do that anyway).
I think I’m getting grinchy about all the holidays too! I like Halloween. I like Christmas. And my birthday LOL
Hey, I like your choices! And Oskar Blues is a brewery that Shane likes a lot too! He loves Dale’s Pale Ale.

Sorta Like a Love Story | Pub Date

I’m glad I’m not alone. Like Brittany, I am a happily married person who also thinks Valentine’s Day is the worst. I always felt like many of the boys I knew (not my husband) thought of it as some obligation and never much thought into it. Why did they have to? They could easily pick […]

Alexa S. - Totally agree that love should be expressed at any and all times possible, and not just Valentine’s Day! (Also, not a big roses fan here either. I love sunflowers best!) Hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day anyway!

February 7, 2015 - 12:10 am

Jaime Lester - I am a 30 something, who is incredibly happily married, and my husband and myself don’t usually even remember its Valentine’s Day until the day is long gone. We can enjoy our beer (he’s a budweiser man, I am a flitter- gotta try them all!), have a romantic night at home, have a great time, any time of any day! This book sounds awesome. Going to check it out right now!

February 6, 2015 - 1:57 pm

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - AMBER ;D I get it!!!
I bought this book because of you! I saw it at the thrift store and remembered your lovely words about it so I grabbed it for myself! Love hearing more about it. Looking forward to it even more!!

February 6, 2015 - 12:00 pm

Jade @ Bedtime Bookworm - Yeah, we don’t really do V-day either – it may have started out as something sweet, but it’s morphed into an agent of the consumer world we live in. It’s all about spending money now, not about love!

Sha La La Life | Pub Date

Happy new year, beer-y bookworms! My plan was to talk about new year’s resolutions so new beer? Well, not exactly. Maybe my 2015 life lesson should be about going with the flow more because that’s just what I did. My husband surprised me with a beer we had never had one day this week, even […]

Alexa S. - I love the last line of your post, E. So poignant + brilliantly put! Also, yes to wanting to hang out at Tea Cozy! It would make a brilliant space to spend some time if it were a real place. 😉

January 17, 2015 - 4:37 pm

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - I am REALLY excited to read Life By Committee! I’ve heard very good things (and mostly from you haha) and that beer sounds very, very yummy! I like your resolution too 🙂

January 13, 2015 - 11:04 pm

Melanie - “Bravery comes in many forms.”

So true. Being brave is something I want to pursue this year, though I’m still not sure what it will look like practically. I have many options. 🙂

January 12, 2015 - 9:49 pm

L.C. Spoering - Resolutions? I’m trying for the cliche gig of getting in shape, but working with my husband to finally make it to a 5k. I’m also planning (and currently succeeding!) at writing a certain amount a day, and meeting deadlines scheduled by myself and my publishing partner. It’s actually pretty exciting to have so many aims!

January 9, 2015 - 11:03 am

Brianna - I don’t drink and I’m not a beer lover anyway, but this one does sound good.

Beginning to Taste A lot Like Christmas | Pub Date

Oh hey. I might have been a slacker in the last round of PUB DATE (Andi Maggie & Brittany got wedding themed) but I’m ready to celebrate the holidays with you and some wonderful brews. If you know me in real life (and perhaps follow me on Twitter), you know I relate more to Buddy […]

Alexa S. - I still haven’t read Bittersweet! But every time I see that cover, I think that it’s so pretty. Also, I can’t wait to be drinking more seasonal beers. I got a little bit more into them in the fall, and am looking forward to trying some winter ones!

December 12, 2014 - 4:49 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - Estelle, your comment about knowing what you had when you are younger is not exactly what you have now, really struck a cord with me. I can relate to this so much. I love the holidays and all its traditions, just like you, but it can be bittersweet knowing that things shift & change as we grow older.

Shiner Cheer is still my favorite seasonal brew, which reminds me I need to get some ASAP! I’m curious about this San Fran brew though.. might need to try it. And as always, LOVE anything Ockler writes 🙂

December 12, 2014 - 10:06 am

Andi - I must admit that I have never been a fan of the winter/holiday beers. But I am now determined to find one I like. I’m actually going to get one you mention and use it for my Pub Date. 🙂

And that book!!!! I ♥ that book muchly!

December 12, 2014 - 9:05 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Calling me out on my lack of love for holiday beers! Actually, I think maybe I was just drinking the wrong ones in past holiday seasons. Maybe they were just good beers because everything I’ve tried so far this year, I liked! But seriously — Two Brothers Peppermint Bark Porter. That’s what it was called. I wish I liked chocolate mint because I bet that would be amazing! Though I’m not sure how far outside of the Chicagoland area they sell Two Brothers…
That beer looks delish and I REALLY need to read Bittersweet! I loved The Book of Broken Hearts and was disappointed by #scandal so I need to cleanse my Sarah Ockler palate!
