Sweet Summertime Reads: Fall in Love With Melissa Walker

Happy Sunday, friends! Thanks for continuing to follow along with our Sweet Summertime Reads feature with Tara and Ginger! Today I’m deviating from our usual Shelve It post to spotlight an author I’ve fallen in love with, Melissa Walker. Watch my short vlog to find out why I love her books so much and then […]

June 18, 2012 - 3:40 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - Melissa Walker is such an interesting personality! I got to meet her recently at the Summer Love event at Books of Wonder (which I went to with Estelle) and talking to her made me even more psyched to read her book. Great interview!

June 6, 2012 - 6:33 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - I love Melissa Walker, SO MUCH! Thanks to you Magan & your undying affection for it, I recently read Unbreak My Heart and it totally broke my heart in the best way possible. I adore that novel, so so much. I loved what Melissa had to say about the gray areas. I find this to be true. OF COURSE cheating is wrong, but there is always so much to learn and grow from. Every story is different. I am happy to see a YA novel that touches on this in a positive way. Great interview!

June 3, 2012 - 10:45 pm

elena - Aw, Magan! I know how much you love this book and I really need to read it so I can love it too. I love her reasoning for the sailing. I never thought of it that way! Fantastic interview. 😀

June 3, 2012 - 8:56 pm

Magan - Hi Mands! Thanks so much! I’m so glad you stopped by! I will hold you to your promise! 😉 xoxo

June 3, 2012 - 8:13 pm

VeganYANerds - Hey Magan! Great intro to the interview, I can tell you really love Melissa’s books and I promise to read all 3! And, I love your top!

I really enjoyed the interview, I think it’s sweet that Melissa gets homesick while on holiday, I totally understand!

Sweet Summertime Reads: Our Local Bookstores

Confession: we spend a lot of time book shopping. Not a shocker, we know. Those marketing people sure know what they are doing when they set up books on a table and add a pretty sign. WE CANNOT RESIST. As part of Sweet Summertime Reads, we wanted to share some of the summery book displays […]

YA Book Review: The Summer of Firsts and Lasts (Terra Elan McVoy) - […] The Summer of Firsts and Lasts by Terra Elan McVoy Publication Date: May 3, 2011 Publisher: Simon Pulse Pages: 423 Target audience: Young adult Keywords: summer camp, sisters, first love, independence Format read: Hardcover borrowed from the libary. How I found out about it: Featured at my B&N this summer. […]

June 3, 2012 - 12:21 pm

elena - ooh thanks for sharing these girls! I’m quite jealous of your local stores, Magan! First, SARAH DESSEN CAME THERE? Second, love the level of detail in the employee recommendations. It really is apparent to how much they love the books and I love that!

June 2, 2012 - 8:23 pm

VeganYANerds - I really like the set up at your local stores! I would have a hard time walking about without buying at least one book!

One of my local stores is part of a chain and they don’t usually have anything as specific, I guess we don’t have a lot of YA come out all at once or all based on the same theme eg summer romance.

June 2, 2012 - 7:23 pm

Sharon @ Fictionally Inclined - The B&N display is almost identical to the one here! It makes me want to stop and read every time I pass by, LOL.

Oh my gosh! I love those little handwritten signs. That is brilliant. And so personal! What a lovely idea. Alas, there’s never any reason I would be further south in Texas than Dallas, but if I’m ever near Austin, I will most definitely be going there.

I really want to read Jellicoe Road, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I really should! I hadn’t heard of Goddess Boot Camp before, but the first in the series is now on my TBR list. It looks like it could be lots of fun!

June 2, 2012 - 12:01 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - These bookstore displays are oh so pretty! I miss going to that particular Barnes & Noble…

And also, I miss you ladies! <3

June 2, 2012 - 11:13 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I’m a sucker for pretty displays too! Our local Chapters always does great displays of teen books, usually accompanied by staff reviews and teen reviews as well. It’s dangerous to go into the store because I either walk out with books or a much longer TBR list. And then head home and order the books that I want online.

Estelle: Sweet Summertime Reads – A Jennifer E. Smith Party!

Once I read The Statistical Probably of Love at First Sight, I was dead set on reading all of Jennifer E. Smith’s books. So I did. And this is what I discovered: Her writing is always rich, lyrical, and beautiful. Her characters are relatable and multi-dimensional. Family is always a central theme. Her books are […]

June 2, 2012 - 9:43 pm

VeganYANerds - I love that you can connect so strongly to all of Jen’s books, Estelle and I really enjoyed the photos you included in this post! I did like TSPOLAFS so I would like to read her other two books 🙂

June 2, 2012 - 12:03 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - As usual E, you’ve managed to convince me that I MUST read the rest of her books. I just read STAT during my vacation, but I’m now looking forward to reading her other novels!

June 1, 2012 - 11:27 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - This is such a great post! I love the photo collages and the personal connections to each book! I’m waiting for TSPoLAFS to come in at the library, but I’m excited to see that ALL of her books are equally amazing! I love discovering a new writer and then devouring her books one by one (like my current Magan-inspired Morgan Matson binge!!!!)

June 1, 2012 - 1:15 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - Oh how I adore this post!! Love all the photo collages & how you identified personally with each book, Estelle. I’ve only read STAT, but I seriously enjoyed it. Based on your reviews here I think I need to pick up the Comeback Season really soon. Thank you for spotlighting an author I don’t see too much attention on, but definitely deserves it!

Sweet Summertime Reads: The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland

Welcome back for another Sweet Summertime Reads review! Today we’re featuring The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland. It’s a great book with secrecy, cute boys, and awesome beaches in a quaint town I wish I could escape to for days. Don’t forget to check out Tara and Ginger’s blogs for more great summer reads! […]

Shannon Greenland - I want to go to Greece!

June 2, 2012 - 12:06 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I was going to write something about your review, but then I saw your pretty pictures and got distracted. They’re absolutely gorgeous! <3

May 31, 2012 - 5:27 pm

Megan @ Books-andTeacups - The number of love triangles in YA books is kind of ridiculous! haha. But this does sound like a good summer read 🙂 and beautiful photos!

May 31, 2012 - 5:06 pm

VeganYANerds - This book sounds lovely and I’m so happy you liked it beause I kep seeing it in people’s book haul posts, back when it was on Netgalley, and then a week or so later the reviews weren’t so good which is a shame because I LOVE the cover! You’ve convinced me this is so worth reading and hooray for the love triangle not being too overbearing.

Those photos are just gorgeous, Magan!

May 31, 2012 - 10:49 am

Ginger @ GReads! - So aside from the lovely book review, your pics of Greece have made me crave summer like no other!!! Geeze that place looks gorgeous. I would love to be there right about now. Thank you friends for being a part of this summer feature with me! 🙂

May 31, 2012 - 10:47 am

elena - This book just screams summer to me! Also WORD to the YA boys thing. They’re nice and all but come on, how often is a girl torn between TWO boys? Especially a teenage one. I will definitely pick it up if I want a light read. 🙂

ahh so jealous about Greece! It looks so lovely. I remember being astounded by the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants film, everything was so white and PRETTY. I love, love your photos especially the last one. Gorgeous!

Jasmine Rose - I’ve been dying to read Pizza, Love, and Other Stuff for soooooo long. I can’t wait to see what you think about it!
As for my book habits when it comes to vacation…well, I tend to sacrifice clothing space for book space. Plus, I’m an overpacker, so I’ll usually bring about 5 books for a three day trip. And no, I’m not an especially fast reader 😛

May 27, 2012 - 8:59 pm

VeganYANerds - Well despite the rain you looked really happy and summery, love your green outdoor furniture too! I think I saw a squirrel run along the fence in the background, I got all excited and distracted, ha! Also, I love pizza too!

You are taking some great books on your cruise, also, what’s a Disney cruise? Is it organised by Disney, I’ve never heard of it before!

I just got In Honor so we might be reading it at the same time and I love Jennifer Echols’ books so I hope you enjoy Endless Summer.

May 27, 2012 - 6:52 pm

Paige - I’m so jealous of In Honor! I cannot wait to read it! I hope you get to read all the books that your bringing along on your trip! Here’s my IMM!

Have an awesome time on your trip!

May 27, 2012 - 3:10 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - I am so ridiculously excited for you to read Endless Summer. It’s such a great book & perfect for your vacation! I am currently reading Unbreak My Heart right now (only a few chapters in, but loving it so far). Thanks for all the shout outs!

May 27, 2012 - 1:39 pm

Leoni - All those books look perfect for a holiday! 🙂 On holiday I will be taking my kindle and reading the books I have on there as well as maybe buying one in the airport before I go. Thanks for sharing your books to read. 🙂

May 27, 2012 - 10:48 am

elena - Hehe “I love pizza.” I’m kind of craving it now after seeing that cover! It does seem like a super cute book. I’ve heard a lot of good things about In Honor but still haven’t read it. Unbreak My Heart does sound perfect for your trip! When I was younger, I used to bring like a suitcase full of books but these days, I only bring one or two since I don’t really read on trips. I hope you have lots of fun on yours!!
