Magan: Shelve It July 1, 2012

weekly feature focusing on the books we bought, borrowed, and received from publishers

HI, FRIENDS! I kind of feel like a slacker because I don’t have a vlog for today’s Shelve It, but ya know, sometimes life gets a little hectic (and I look a little ca-razy today…therefore should not be seen in vlog format). Moving on.

I did go to ALA this past week, but I’m just going to briefly say that I stood in lots of long lines to meet authors. I didn’t peruse the floor as much as I stood in line to meet some of my favorite people. That was pretty freakin’ incredible. Seeing Morgan Maatson was definitely (definitely) the highlight of my week.

I got a package in the mail a few weeks ago from Simon & Schuster and just want to give them a shout out to say THANK YOU for these. They are one of my favorite publishers and I was beside myself when I received these.

lauren barnholdt books, morgan matson second chance summer, hush hush book, possession by elana johnson, wrecked book

  • The Thing About the Truth by Lauren Barnholdt (Goodreads) – I devoured this one on a plane ride recently and really, really enjoyed it. Be on the lookout for my review, but also, it hits bookstores on July 10th!
  • Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt (Goodreads) – This one is a cheating book (eep!) and it’s been on my to-read list since Estelle reviewed it.
  • Possession by Elana Johnson (Goodreads) – I read this one last year (and reviewed it on Goodreads). The companion book, Surrender, just came out June 1st.
  • Wrecked by Anna Davies (Goodreads) – This book is described as a contemporary paranormal book. There’s a boating accident, a mysterious boy, and lots of secrecy. I need to read this soon!
  • Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (Goodreads) – This one definitely seems a little outside of my normal reading zone, but I am intrigued by it. Lots of my Goodreads friends have rated this pretty highly.
  • Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson (Goodreads) – I suppose after seeing my name pop up in their twitter feed regarding MY UNDYING LOVE for this book, they decided I needed a finished copy of this one.

Here’s what happened around our blog this week:

Estelle: Shelve It 6/24/2012

weekly feature focusing on the books we bought, borrowed, and received from publishers

With birthdays, graduations, and the release of Pixar’s Brave… we were a little busy this weekend. Forgive me for the lack of vlog but I’m sort of pooped despite the “relaxing” weekend. 🙂

Hope all of you had a great week and a super Sunday!

I took out half the library this week. And they allowed me to even though I had to pay a fine (6 bucks) for late books and entered the library with my crazy hair. Oh wait. My husband took a picture of that.

So here’s a better look at what I borrowed:

Saving Ruth by Zoe Fishman (Goodreads)
Take Me There by Carolee Dean (Goodreads)
Shelter by Frances Greenslade (Goodreads)
The Summer of Firsts and Lasts by Terra Elan McVoy (Goodreads)
The President’s Daughter by Ellen Emerson White (Goodreads)
Belles by Jen Calonita (Goodreads)
Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles (Goodreads)
Awaken by Kate Kacvinsky (Goodreads)
Audrey, Wait by Robin Benway (Goodreads)
The Karma Club by Jessica Brody (Goodreads)

Two of these are from my Big Kids’ Table feature (Saving Ruth & Shelter) but others are because of fellow blogger reviews:

> Tara of Fiction Folio looks at Belles by Jen Calonita.
> Mandee from VeganYANerds mentioned Take Me There in her vlog from June 10th.
> April from Good Books and Good Wine listed The Karma Club AND Audrey, Wait in her summer reading suggestions a few weeks ago. (Then Ginger seconded reading Audrey, Wait.)

Thanks to these lovely ladies for helped me to discover the above titles!

On the blog this week:

– I read Such a Rush last week and I can’t say enough fantastic things about it.
– A bonus review of A Long Way From You by Gwendolyn Heasley set in NYC!
– Magan raves about Something Like Normal by Trish Doller. Have you read it yet?
I’ll Be There by Holly Goldberg Sloan has heart, suspense, and some amazing characters.

Thanks for checking in! Have a great week!

weekly feature focusing on the books we bought, borrowed, and received from publishersHappy Sunday, friends! You may have noticed my absence this week on twitter and commenting on your blogs. We’ve been sailing the sea to Alaska to celebrate a big anniversary for my parents! It’s been an amazing week, but I’ve really missed you guys (as you’ll notice in my vlog because I mention it, like, three times).

I’ve gotten a lot (LOT) of reading done this week. I mention a few books in the video below that I finished before Thursday. Since I am writing on my phone, I’m having trouble adding links. I’ll update with links when I’m back at home.

This was taken on Thursday in Ketchikan, Alaska. A little view from our ship is included for ya.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (Goodreads)
