Shelve It: In Which We Buy All the Books

Howdy, friends! We’re both checking in to confess how many books share the books we’ve purchased lately with another Shelve It. It’s been a good, good month for reading and we both, um, went a little overboard. Our wallets are feeling quite depleted, but we’re really excited about all of these and we hope you are, […]

Judith - M, I can’t wait to see what you think of Pointe. I’ve heard AMAZING things about it. I also thoroughly enjoyed Rites of Passage and On the Fence, so I hope you’ll like them.

E, whoa, amazing books! Of course, Open Road Summer is my FAVORITE. I also love the Great cake, and I can’t wait to read that.

May 3, 2014 - 1:56 am

Alexa S. - Whee, happy reading ladies! I think I got roughly the same amount of books you each did individually, so we’re good. I’d say we bought just the right amount for such an awesome week of releases!

April 30, 2014 - 10:09 pm

brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Hahaha M’s super incriminating purchase page! but good purchases!!! It’s okay, E, it happens to the best of us. Amazing events! So much fun. It’s hard when they’re all back-to-back but it’s also just like a whirlwind of amazing! And YAY Open Road Summer finally arrived! Yessss!

April 27, 2014 - 5:13 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Not going to lie – seeing all these beautiful books in one post has made me feel a little better about the fact that I went book buying crazy this month. SO MANY PRE-ORDERS, y’all. And then, you know, lots of unplanned purchases that I couldn’t resist… and I can’t even blame it on attending any signings.

Also, I just grabbed Pointe from the library this week per E’s rec. Hope I get to it before it’s due back!

April 24, 2014 - 12:38 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - Look at all those beautiful books! I’m jealous, Estelle, that you got to attend Jenny Han’s pub party. From the pics I saw, it looked like such a good time! Also, that comment about her sister & christmas morning.. COMPLETELY agree with that. Magan, I want updates when you read Corey’s book!

PS, Teen Book Con is this weekend, so I’m sure I’ll have a post similar to this one sometime next week with all my book purchases! Can’t wait!

April 23, 2014 - 12:20 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I don’t think you guys picked up too many books at all. Of course, I might not be the best person to ask that question 🙂

That’s awesome that there were so many book events last week, Estelle. Magan, I haven’t read Unremembered, but it’s definitely on my list. I got to see Jessica Brody at the Rochester Teen Book Fest last year, and she was a fun speaker.

Enjoy all your goodies and happy reading! 🙂

Shelve It: Books Books Lots of Books

Hello! How are you guys doing? Spring has finally arrived in New York, and I’m hoping to spend this Saturday in the sunshine! Yay! Hope you all are doing the same! I have lots of books to talk about today since it’s been so long since I posted a SHELVE IT. It’s bad. But I […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - So many titles I haven’t heard about before! I’d already put Pointe on my wishlist after your rave Goodreads update, but now you’ve got me intrigued about a few others (especially There Will Come a Time). And I look forward to some of the others being read and reviewed by you!

April 16, 2014 - 8:41 pm

Liz - I’m so glad you loved POINTE as much as I did! I also recently bought NOGGIN and need to read it. I’m really looking forward to eventually picking up a hardcover of SIDE EFFECTS MAY VARY.

And I love your necklace. I need to get something similar for myself.

April 14, 2014 - 11:04 pm

Alexa S. - I swear, it’s like magic – you recommend something and I immediately know that I want it. I really want to read There Will Come a Time! It sounds incredible. And you already know I have Darcy Lane coming in the mail, and bought Pointe the other day. MORE BOOKS. ALL THE BOOKS.

April 13, 2014 - 12:58 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - YOU ARE ADORABLE. Seriously. I’m super intrigued by all your five star reads! I love reading amazing book after amazing book — it’s the best! Hope your positive reading binge just keeps going and going 🙂

April 12, 2014 - 9:59 am

Stormy - I’m reading The Darkest Minds this weekend–I’ve been hesitant about the book, for some reason, even though it does seem like my kind of book, but I’m really enjoying it!
I’m really curious about This Side of Salvation & Pointe. I am especially in love with the cover for This Side of Salvation. It’s poster-worthy!
And I really hope you enjoy The Art of Wishing–it was one of my most pleasant reading surprises of the year!

A Rare Mid-Week Shelve It (Plus Giveaway!)

I’m sorry to tell you that it’s not Sunday. But yesterday I was all dressed up and not post-gym gross for once so I decided to clean off my “kitchen” table (it’s in the living room, if I’m honest) and share with you what I’ve been buying lately: the results of my book buying ban, […]

March 16, 2014 - 5:47 pm

Alexa S. - Yay for a new vlog from you, E! It’s just nice hearing you talk about your book purchases again 🙂 Also — You Are Here! Out of the Easy! Anatomy of a Single Girl! Great, great, great titles that I’ve also read and loved <3 I actually don't mind having a hardback/paperback with me on the morning commute; it's less likely that I'll damage it when I drop it, as opposed to my iPad where I read all my e-books!

March 16, 2014 - 4:39 pm

The Bookish Manicurist - All the Truth That’s In Me is wonderful, I hope you love it! Fixing Delilah sounds good, I’ve seen such good reviews – I promise I’ll read it!
The Winner’s Curse is getting a lot of hype, I have plans to read it too.

Yes, I worry I will ruin books when I carry them in my bag and you don’t have to worry with ebooks, but I do prefer reading actual books!

March 16, 2014 - 1:33 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Don’t mind me, just catching up with blogs…Sex and Violence, All the Truth That’s In Me, and Out of the Easy were three of my favorite books from last year so I am super excited for you to read them!

March 13, 2014 - 10:03 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - It’s so different from everything on my tbr PLUS you loved it so basically yes. The idea of the movie stars meets YA sounds fun!

March 13, 2014 - 10:01 pm

Liz - Carrie Mesrobian is seriously one of the coolest people. I went to the launch for SEX AND VIOLENCE and she’s super witty and nice in person. I still need to read her book. I have not read THE VOW or ANATOMY OF A SINGLE GIRL but they are both on my pile so I’ll have to bump them up now.

I can’t wait to hear how you like THE WINNER’S CURSE! I hope you read it soon.

March 13, 2014 - 8:44 pm

Amy B - I am still hearing great things on these books. Even if I don’t win, I am going to find myself a copy.

March 12, 2014 - 9:19 pm

alicia marie - I loved Starstruck and it was definitely one of my favorite books last year!! I’m super excited to read Love Me 🙂

March 12, 2014 - 6:32 pm

Amy - I don’t think I have read anything like these two books before, they sound really interesting!

March 12, 2014 - 3:03 pm

Lucy - You picked up some good books! Seriously some of my favorites of last year- like S&V, Out of the Easy, and Tell the Wolves. Can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

I read Anatomy of a Boyfriend last year and really liked it! Very Judy Blume Forever-esque. I need to circle back with the companion book soon.

Don’t know how I’ve missed out on Fixing Delilah but you make it sound like a must-read.

Have a good week!

March 12, 2014 - 1:25 pm

Ashley @ Ok, Let's Read - You’re the second person I’ve seen mentioning Sex and Violence. I don’t know if it’s just me, but with a name like that.. I just really want to read that! I’ve also wanted to read Anatomy of a Single Girl for a while now.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Starstruck series, to be honest. And, that’s what makes me want to read it! I love when books have mixed reviews because then I can read them, form my own opinions and join in the conversation.

March 12, 2014 - 11:28 am

Shelby Brown - I have heard so many great things about the starstruck series, and I have been meaning to read them for a while. I get excited by a book that people are extremely passionate about!

Shelve It: Zac Efron and Breaking Book Bans

Hiya! Tell me if I’m alone: you know you have to do a v-log but you are either not showered, just came back from the gym, or too darn tired to collect the books all over your apartment. This was me, so now it’s Sunday morning and I’m giving you a pajama party v-log. My […]

Leah - I can DEFINITELY get behind pj party vlogs!

Okay Liza Palmer – I need to see what all the fuss is about! At this point I think I’m the only person who hasn’t read her stuff. I’ve checked a few times and my library has a few of her books, next time I stop by I’ll have to (finally) pick one up!

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to how to pronounce Moyes. I default to Moy-es, though I’ve heard others say Moys. 🙁 Who knows!

February 27, 2014 - 2:16 pm

Alexa S. - I still think you look pretty cute, E! I rarely have makeup on in my vlogs, so I think I’m just used to being on camera without it at this point 😉 Anyway, your book buying to break your ban sounds epic! HAPPY READING. (PS – Read Brooklyn Girls! I’m reading the sequel now and it’s SO FUN.)

February 24, 2014 - 12:06 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - So I’m at work right now, so I can’t watch your vlog 🙁

I’ll have to watch it when I get home. I’ve only done a few vlogs, but not in ages, because, like you, I’m in my PJs and just not looking good. Although from the thumbnail, you are looking very glamorous and I LOVE your glasses.

I had decided to NOT request The Geography of Me and You, because I’m trying to not go crazy with the requesting of ARCs, but I totally caved and requested it the other day.

February 24, 2014 - 7:36 am

Alice - Brilliant haul Estelle! 😀 😀 SO jealous of the gorgeous books. Pajama party vlogs are awesome! Who cares anymore anyway. You gotta vlog when you gotta vlog. 😉 And your hair looked fabulous in it anyway. No biggie at all!

February 23, 2014 - 6:11 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I love watching your v-logs, and honestly wouldn’t notice (or care) if your hair was messy! Looks like some great books for you this week … I hadn’t heard about the controversy over September Girls, but I’m not super interested in mermaid books anyways, so it wasn’t on my radar to begin with. But I’ll look forward to reading your review!

Also, YAY — I’m SO glad that you read (and loved) Me Before You. That was, hands down, one of my favourite reads of 2013 and I’m looking forward to reading some more of her books.

I’ve read Smack and Doing It by Melvin Burgess. He’s definitely a very “out there” YA writer because he writes about really heavy topics. I thought for some reason that he was dead, but I guess not if he’s coming out with new books?

February 23, 2014 - 4:47 pm

April Books & Wine - The Geography Of You And Me has such delicious prose, I hope you love it!

MATTHEW QUICK! My 2013 favorite!

Hah, I have not done a vlog in months because I am always just coming in from the gym or in PJs or do not feel like putting on makeup. It’s awkward. Alas.

Enjoy the new books!

February 23, 2014 - 3:29 pm

The Bookish Manicurist - I have done the same thing with September Girls, I added it, removed it, and now I want to add it again. I think I let negative reviews put me off a little too quickly!

Good to see your face, lady 😉

Shelve It: February 8, 2014 (Pepper Cameo)

Hello! I’m posted this a day early just because well, I feel like it. And it’s ready and here. haha. It’s been so long since I did one of these Shelve Its but I had to share the goodies that have been in my mailbox the past couple of months. (Oh god, time is seriously […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Yay vlogging and a Pepper appearance! I’m so happy you enjoyed Past Perfect (I know you’ve read it at this point hah!) and can’t wait for you to read the book from Cass. I loved that one, too! Added bonus: it’s so pretty in person!

February 13, 2014 - 7:02 pm

Ellice - This vlog was so much fun to watch (and not just because you mentioned me in it! hahaha). You’re just the cutest– when I record myself, I just sound like a country bumpkin with my horrible accent 🙂

Pepper is adorable. He (she?) wanted a cameo in this month’s Shelve It!

February 9, 2014 - 2:00 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I think the simple act of you receiving a copy of Past Perfect is proof that karma really does exist! You are such a wonderful person for gifting that book that it came right back to you :). I’m stockpiling some contemporaries for summer reading this year, and I’m excited for both Leila Sales books!

February 8, 2014 - 10:58 pm

Jessika @ Tangled Up in Reading - I love your videos, and it looks like you have some good reads coming up! I’m so intrigued by Somebody Everybody Listens To, especially with a blurb from Dolly Parton!

February 8, 2014 - 6:49 pm

Alexa S. - I’m so glad to see you post another vlog, E! It’s always wonderful to see your face 🙂 You also got some pretty darn awesome books, including SOMETHING REAL which is awesome.

February 8, 2014 - 5:48 pm

April Books & Wine - PEPPER!

I just get pumped about animals.

Aside from that, I really enjoyed Past Perfect, hope you like it!

Shelve It: A Few Nights Before Christmas

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you! This is a real real real life Shelve It! I am really excited about all the books in this video + I hope you feel that way too. It’s a great time of year to drink a peppermint mocha, have Home Alone 2 in the background, and […]

Lisa - I know I’ve already told you but I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE YOUR FACE!

I won’t forget to eat cookies, but thank you very much for the reminder!

MWAH!

December 23, 2013 - 7:16 pm

Rachel - Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to read Ashes to Ashes. Like, CANNOT. WAIT. And I did not know Ann Brashares was coming out with something new! Snapshot sounds interesting, so I’ll have to check that one out. I love your videos 🙂

December 22, 2013 - 6:31 pm

Alexa S. - YOU NEED TO READ BLUE-EYED DEVIL. I swear, Racquel, Sharon and I have been shoving that book at everyone since Sizzle & Swoon week a few months ago! We really, really, really love the Travis family. Actually, we really, REALLY, REALLY love Hardy Cates.

That being said, I also hope that you read Ransom and fall in love with it! Garwood’s historical romances are among my favourites, and this was one of the first ones I ever read. You’ll have to keep me posted on when you read it!

And you’ve gotten some amazing books, gifts and e-books. It sounds like you’re all set for some awesome reading for the next few months 😉

December 22, 2013 - 2:31 pm

Sunny - So many great-sounding books! I just got Ashes to Ashes as well so I hope we both like it. And These Broken Stars! Ah, I hope you love it as much as I did 🙂

December 22, 2013 - 12:34 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Estelle, I love Julie Garwood. Seriously, she’s one of my favorite romance authors, and Ransom is wonderful. It’s actually not my favorite Garwood, but it’s way up there. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it. Also, I love LIsa Kleypas’s historical romances. I haven’t read her contemporaries, although I’ve heard good things. I really wish she would write historicals again. Until recently I haven’t really read a lot of romances for five years or so (I used to read them ALL THE TIME while in college), but the last few months I can’t stop reading them. But what I wanted to say was that when I read them, I also tended to have a few authors that I loved, and it was always so difficult to find new authors. So I hope you like Kleypas and Garwood. Garwood doesn’t write historicals anymore.

I’ve been super curious about These Broken Stars, too. That cover is gorgeous, and I’ve heard such amazing things, but I’m not a big fan of science fiction either. I did read three sci-fi books this year, though, and loved them. You’ll have to let me know if you like These Broken Stars and if you think those that aren’t big on sci-fi would like it.

Have a great Christmas!

December 22, 2013 - 9:58 am

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Sweet Thing Ginger also gifted me Sweet Thing as my bday/xmas gift. 😀 That was really nice of her. I actually started reading it two nights ago and it’s REALLY GOOD so far!

I was so happy to have gotten you as my #TBTBSanta!! I had a lot of fun shopping for you. 🙂

I just went and bought the two Angie Stanton books you mention because I love musician books and yeah.

Let me know when you decide to read Amplified. I own it and need to read it!!!

December 22, 2013 - 9:50 am

Stormy - You got some pretty great books! I thought Ask Again Later was really cute–it’s just a nice, simple sweet read. These Broken Stars was also one of my favorites of the year. I wouldn’t worry about the science fiction aspects too much–the information is spread out pretty well and the focus is definitely on the survival and the romance more than the sci-fi elements. And Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is one of my all-time favorites book–I really hope you absolutely love it!

December 22, 2013 - 9:06 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - YAYYY Always love seeing your face!! *takes a sip of coffee* It’s like we’re chatting! (Oh, this is just said. We just need to see each other again IRL.)
I’m really looking forward to Ask Again Later and!!! It comes out on my birthday! WOO! 🙂
Lovely video! Very fun!

December 22, 2013 - 2:37 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - (Oops, didn’t mean to hit post!) …. Back on the tree, our tree looks a little disheveled. Second, I’m a little sad that your cat watched the taping, but didn’t make an appearance :(. And finally, what a great bunch of books!!! I have that Aristotle & Dante book on hold at the library because I keep hearing such great things about it! I didn’t realize it won so many awards too!

Merry merry Christmas!!!!!

December 22, 2013 - 2:30 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - First of all, your tree is so pretty! I’m also mildly envious because my tree looks rather disheveled this year — between Marko and the cat pulling ornaments and garlands off and me sticking them haphazardly

December 22, 2013 - 1:49 am

Liz - The way you described Amplified makes me want to read it! I also totally get you what you say about being afraid that you won’t understand sci fi. I got Not A Drop To Drink when it was on sale as well. Have an awesome Christmas!

December 22, 2013 - 1:08 am

Jen @ Pop! Goes The Reader - What a fun video, Estelle! It looks like you have quite the promising stack of to-be-read novels ahead of you! I was particularly excited to hear you mention The Silent Wife. This novel is currently taking Canada by storm and I recently purchased a copy last week because I was curious to learn what all the fuss was about. It’s truly a shame that the author, A.S.A. Harrison, wasn’t able to live long enough to enjoy the immense amount of praise her novel has garnered 🙁 In any event, it would be a lot of fun to read this and compare our thoughts on the novel!

Wishing both you and Magan a very Merry Christmas! *Hugs* I feel blessed and extremely thankful to have been given the opportunity to meet both of you this year. P.S. “Don’t forget to eat cookies” is advice I like to live by on a daily basis 😉
