Magan: Shelve It –> January 27, 2013

Hi, friends! I apologize for the late Shelve It. My poor laptop has been at the Apple store getting repaired. Actually, it was supposed to be better, but the problems I was having failed to return over the several days it was there so I have to wait + see if they happen again and then […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I feel like I’ve seen several posts about Bittersweet recently, even though it’s not a new book, so I’m definitely curious about that one. And yay for being able to meet Gayle Forman! How exciting 🙂

January 28, 2013 - 5:23 pm

Sana @ artsy musings of a bibliophile - Wow, you got to meet Gayle Forman =D

This is a really good haul! Over You sounds like a great book. Enjoy.

Here’s my Book Haul post.

Sana @ artsy musings of a bibliophile

January 28, 2013 - 4:54 pm

Alexa Y. - I definitely want to meet Gayle Forman at an event for Just One Day, just so I can ask her questions about her travels and hear her talk about them. She seems like such an amazing and really cool person! (And I’ve actually heard her speak before!)

January 28, 2013 - 10:44 am

April Books & Wine - Ahhhh, I am meeting Gayle on super bowl Sunday (because, ugh timing) and I literally cannot wait and am so nervous I’ll make a flailing mess of my self.

ALSO! Yay Bittersweet! I need to buy that at some point.

January 28, 2013 - 9:09 am

Rachel - I am so jealous that you have a copy of Over You, you don’t even know. Amy Reed is my favorite author ON THE PLANET. Also, yay for meeting Gayle Forman!! I’m reading Just One Day soon and I’m so excited for it.

January 28, 2013 - 8:34 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I’m curious about Over You. You’ll have to let me know if you think I should read it. And boo on sending the computer in 🙁 Hopefully it comes back all fixed up!

January 28, 2013 - 1:08 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Yay for Bittersweet! I read that one over the Christmas holidays, and really liked it. Sara Zarr is definitely a new favourite. And I am totally planning to read Just One Day, since you and many other wonderful bloggers, have loved it so much.

January 28, 2013 - 12:12 am

fishgirl182 - i’ve been meaning to read bittersweet for so long. it looks so cute. oooh and blaze sounds really cool. i used to want to draw comics when i was in jr high. i will def have to check that one out.

January 27, 2013 - 10:59 pm

Bookworm1858 - I’m really excited about Blaze-I was lucky enough to get a copy through Netgalley as well and can’t wait to dive in!

January 27, 2013 - 9:08 pm

elena - i need to go read those anatomy of a bf/gf books!! omg bittersweet made me sooo hungry for sweets even though i bought a pack of red velvet cupcakes in preparation.

blaze sounds good! i remember being excited when it was fangirl but then eh once a summary once out but then they redid that summary SO. i guess i will wait to see what you think of it!

February 10, 2013 - 11:00 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I already bought Unravel Me, but I’m also really looking forward to Out of the Easy and Pivot Point! Both sound interesting, and I’ve heard good things about both so that’s also really nice!

January 25, 2013 - 12:56 pm

Cassie - My oh my. SO MANY BOOKS. I read Unravel Me and adored it. I can’t speak highly enough about Tahereh Mafi’s writing. I can’t wait for The Ruining, Out of the Easy, The Reece Malcom List and How to Lead a Life of Crime!

January 25, 2013 - 12:27 pm

Rachel - Oh man, so many good books out this month! I’m excited for the rest of the world to read Unravel Me, as I finished that one recently. I’m looking forward to Pivot Point, The Ruining, and Hysteria.

January 25, 2013 - 11:01 am

Alexa Y. - There are SO many good books out this month, but I’m particularly looking forward to Unravel Me and Scarlet! I need to do a re-read of Scarlet once I get my own copy…

January 25, 2013 - 8:08 am

Jen - Well, we already discussed Unravel Me at length, so you already know my thoughts on that one 🙂 Can’t wait for the finished copy so I can do a thorough and heart-pounding re-read!

Magan’s January 13, 2012 Shelve It

Hello, friends! I have thoroughly enjoyed my Saturday — no plans to speak of and we successfully took down our Christmas tree. (Yes, I know what date it is, but ugh — things have just been so busy. Happy it’s down now, but so sad Christmas is over.) Anyway, back to books… > It was […]

Magan - This comment, Hannah, cracked me up! I secretly pretend like I’m them too. And lady! I believe you did a walkthrough of your home on your blog + um, it’s gorg. You have more of a crafty side than you’re giving yourself credit for! 🙂

January 22, 2013 - 5:12 pm

Magan - That’s a great idea, Hannah! I will include a few photos of the projects I do to let you know if they’re flops or not. 🙂

January 21, 2013 - 4:19 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - ALSO, please review the book (with a few pictures from inside) – I always loving having multiple opinions before I buy a decorating book 🙂

January 21, 2013 - 4:18 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I am not crafty in real life, but I totally am in another world known as my dreams. Seriously. I get really pumped for a project and then it doesn’t turn out perfect and I’m quickly over the whole DIY blog. HOWEVER, I love YHL because I secretly pretend I’ll be like them one day. So fun that you went to their signing! They seem like they’d be hilarious and really fun to listen to.

January 20, 2013 - 8:09 pm

VeganYANerds - When I dropped by last week I couldn’t watch the vlog so now I’m back! I love Young House Love, too! I discovered it last year thanks to one of the Top 10 Tuesday lists. I bet their book is awesome!

And I feel like I am still playing catch up with review books, too! I’m already behind and this year is only just starting!

January 16, 2013 - 11:36 pm

Magan - Hahah — Liz! That makes me so happy! I love, love, love DIY and reading (obviously), but yes! I was in HEAVEN at the event because it was everything I loved ALL IN ONE PLACE!

January 16, 2013 - 4:49 pm

Estelle + Magan - Hahah — Thanks, Alexa! I just needed to bring a little bit of Texas to the blog. 😉 So glad you loved Just One Day as much as I did! xo

January 16, 2013 - 11:48 am

Alexa Y. - It is ADORABLE that you started this video by saying “Howdy!” I love that. Seriously!

Just One Day is SO GOOD. I bought it on release day as well, thanks to your review + Jamie’s + Tara’s. It’s such an amazing book!

January 15, 2013 - 11:00 pm

Liz (Along for the Read) - I love Young House Love, so cool that you got to meet them. My blog reading worlds are totally colliding with this post!

January 14, 2013 - 9:51 pm

Magan - Paige — me too! It’s my favorite! 🙂 I hope you love JOD! Enjoy!

January 14, 2013 - 8:20 pm

Paige - I love the cover of Just One Day, I cannot wait to read it! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week 🙂

My IMM

January 13, 2013 - 3:50 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Aww — you’re so cute. Even sweaty.

I really, really should read Just One Day, since I keep hearing such great things about it. I wasn’t blown away by her other books, but since some of my favourite bloggers (and, yes, that includes you) keep raving about it … I might just have to check it out. And add just ONE MORE BOOK to the pre-baby TBR list. 😉

January 13, 2013 - 10:52 am

April @ Books And Wine - I’m not all that into DIY because I have not a crafty artsy bone in my body, but maybe I’ll subscribe to YHL for when I have a house of my own someday.

JUST ONE DAY! Ahhh! I am waiting on purchasing my copy until Gayle’s signing in February. Like you, I will be fangirling like crazy and it will be super awesome. <3

January 13, 2013 - 12:19 am

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - I absolutely love going to signings, they are just SO MUCH FUN. It’s even better when you get to meet fellow book bloggers! I’m kind of [not really, I am for a fact jealous with a capital J!] that you get to meet Gayle Forman. Even though I’ve only read If I Stay by her, I’ve fallen in love with her writing, and would absolutely adore to meet her. You lucky Austin peeps! We never get anyone cool in Dallas. =P But anyways, I’m so glad you loved Just One Day! I totally need to pick it up soon.

Also, I totally sympathize with the whole life being busy thing. It makes me sad that I couldn’t comment on any of your previous posts this week, even though I did read most of them. ='( Life has begun to take away from my blogging time, which is something I’m not liking. But hopefully next week will be better!

Anyways, lovely haul Magan. Happy reading, and have a blast at that Gayle Forman signing! I want to hear ALL about it!

Magan’s Shelve It: December 30, 2012

Howdy, howdy! Happy (almost) 2013! It feels so good to be back in the swing of things and to have books to share with you guys in this week’s Shelve It. I was kind of on a self-imposed-book-ban to help save up for the holidays. Never fear! I’m back with lots of awesome! *All […]

My IMM

December 30, 2012 - 4:51 pm

VeganYANerds - Yay! Happy New Year to you, Magan – and Estelle! 🙂

I want that person to return Ruby Oliver #4 already! Is it overdue? Sometimes I put something on hold at my library and they send the person a reminder so a. they can’t renew it again and b. they end up returning it. Anyway, Frankie is also awesome, and I hope you love her story!

I hope you get to wear your new dress out tonight (well tomorrow night for you!)

December 30, 2012 - 12:17 pm

The Bumble Girl - Hi pretty girl! You are so very sweet!
I adore Susane Colasanti and all the books that I have been able to read by her! She is such a great and inspirational person! I highly recommend Keep Holding On as your next book by her!
Great adult reads too! I should try to read a few of those next year too 🙂
Hope you and Estelle have a wonderful New Year’s! xo

December 30, 2012 - 11:49 am

Melissa - My Ideal Bookshelf sound like a great book…love to peek into other’s shelves…and I’ve been curious about On The Island myself. Hope you enjoy it and Happy New Year!!

December 30, 2012 - 7:45 am

Lori - I adore the Heist Society books! They are so much fun. I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

December 30, 2012 - 3:09 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - YOU ARE SO CUTE! Seriously. Especially the “y’all”s =) I will totally give you bonus points for venturing into the adult section … it can be a scary, uncertain kind of place. And there’s SO MANY MORE BOOKS in that section. It’s a little daunting. Happy New Year to you both — can’t wait for more of your amazing reviews in 2013! Mwah!

December 30, 2012 - 12:10 am

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - This was such a cute v-log Magan! Yay for finally buying books!! I’m glad you went crazy at Half Price Books too, I visited that place this week as well, but managed to restrict myself to 3 books. 😉 But Crazy sounds really neat. I mean, a kid’s father is going crazy. Sign me up as well! 😉 I’ve heard amazing things about Heist Society, it seems like such a fun book. I’ll be looking out for your review of that one before I decide if I should pick it up for myself or not. And I’m glad you managed to venture into the Adult section at B&N! 😉 I totally feel comfortable in the YA section myself, so I totally understand what you mean by that. But it’s great that you venturing out and trying some more genres! I plan to do that in 2013 as well, within different genres of YA, since I mainly read fantasy/dystopia.

Fantastic haul Magan! This v-log makes me want to meet you so badly… perhaps at TLA this year? *hint hint* Enjoy your lovelies and have a fabulous new year! <3

December 30, 2012 - 12:04 am

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Oooooh em GEEEE!! I hope you love it!! 😀 Keep me posted!!

December 29, 2012 - 11:09 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - Magan, you are totally right about 2013 starting off with a huge bang! Seriously, I’m about to start drooling over all these pretties. SO many of these books are ones I’ve been waiting forever for, like Asunder, Prodigy, Everbound, and Through the Ever Night. I can’t wait to see what these sophomore authors have in store for us next with their second books!! I’m also really looking forward to The Archived. I’ve only seen gushing reviews of it so far, and it sounds so utterly unique. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Level 2 is also look fantastic! AND it’s written by a book blogger, so it really can’t get better than that. 😉 It’s going to be one of the few debuts that I preorder, I believe.

Thanks so much for putting this lovely post together, Magan! January 2013 is going to be fabulous!

December 29, 2012 - 10:31 pm

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - I want to comment on all of these books, but that would take forever. I *will* say that I’ve read Revolution 19 and it was fun. I JUST finished Prodigy and WOW WOW WOW. Also, since I base lots of my reading on covers (I know, I know, shallow Asheley?) I may have a tough time choosing from these because ALL of these covers are so great. And I already want to read them all. The beginning of 2013 is SUCH a great, exciting time to be a fan of YA!

December 29, 2012 - 9:23 pm

Lisa the Nerd - Level 2! Level 2! Level 2!

December 29, 2012 - 8:46 pm

Magan - Gaby – you’re such a sweetheart! These posts do take me a while, but that’s usually because wordpress decides to format things oddly and it drives me nuts. Haha! So happy you’re looking forward to so much. I swear I’ll spend all my Christmas money in January! 😉

Mands — I love the repackage too. I’ve only read one Caletti book so I’m definitely anxious for more!

Sara — I know, right?! SO much awesome!

December 29, 2012 - 8:45 pm

Magan - Me, too, Lily. There are SO MANY good books coming out!

December 29, 2012 - 8:26 pm

Lily - January is going to be such a good month for new releases I’m super excited… I just wish my bank account could say the same.

December 29, 2012 - 7:13 pm

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - This list is AMAZING. I’m talking mostly about the fact that you compiled it. What’s on it is also pretty great. Not to mention, I’m excited about a lot of things on it, especially Just One Day, All You Need is Love, Then You Were Gone, Paper Valentine, Return to Me and Nobody But Us. Thanks for all the hard work! ^_^

December 29, 2012 - 4:09 am

VeganYANerds - 2012 really did fly by, I can’t believe it!

I got all excited when I saw Love Is All You Need, thinking it was a new book by Deb but then I see it’s a re-package. Still, I love the title and the cover!

Also, can’t wait for Falling for You – have just heard good things about it!

December 29, 2012 - 12:09 am

Sara (of the Page Sage) - Ah! Too many awesome books! I’m especially excited for Just One Day, The Archived, and Paper Valentine.

Magan: 2012 End of Year Book Survey

December 29, 2012 - 10:58 pm

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - 1. I feel like I just wrote a novel on E’s end of the year survey about This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers. I talked about how I would’ve chosen it BECAUSE it was a zombie book because the contemps were new to me but I fell in absolute love with her beautiful one-of-a-kind writing and now I’m working my way backward thru her books. I LOVE that you both mention that book. So fun!

2. Re-reading. I’m an obsessive re-reading. My husband Mike thinks I’m the weirdest person ever because at any given time I’m re-reading several books and reading-for-the-first time AT LEAST one. I’m such a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants emotional reader, and re-reading books I’ve LOVED before makes me feel good. I also love re-reading on audio. So, YAY for re-reading. Do it in 2013! Especially the Book #1’s and Books #2’s for the next books coming out. I LOVE DOING THAT. In fact, I have a little problem with doing that – like, I neglect activities of daily living in order to do that. He. He. 🙂

3. I’ve put off reading the Delirium Trilogy until the final book comes out because I’ve heard the cliffhangers are so pesky. So I’m super excited that I can start that series soon! YAY for that!!

Super fun survey, M! I love this blog – both your stuff and Estelle’s stuff. Every time I come here, it just makes me immensely happy to read what you girls write. And you both make my to-read pile grow taller. I love it. 🙂

December 20, 2012 - 1:10 pm

elena - YOU LOOK QT IN ALL THESE PICS! hooray for morgan matson love, she is sooo lovely omg. :3 you had such a great year and i hope NEXT YEAR i will get to meet you. please read requiem soon, i am dying to discuss it. AAAND i still need to read sara zarr, geez. thank you for your friendship & kind words & i can’t wait to see what next year brings. 🙂

December 19, 2012 - 1:40 pm

Christina (A Reader of Fictions) - Yay! The Ruby Oliver books! I just read them about a week ago, the full series in a week. That person who didn’t return book four deserves to go to the special hell, because it is so sad you didn’t get to finish!

December 19, 2012 - 6:24 am

Lori - You have so many books on your favorites list that I still need to read. *adds them all to TBR* I’m kind of thrilled that you were wrong about Delirium. It’s one of my favorite books EVER. I’m happy you rediscovered it. I wish you would have liked The Disenchantments more, but I definitely understand. It was very different than I was expecting. Have you read Hold Still? Love that book! It’s heartbreaking and beautiful. Really, the trailer for it makes me cry.

And YES to Finnikin! Read it! Froi too! I can’t wait for the last book. If you guys do a group read let me know. I could be easily convinced to reread.

December 19, 2012 - 12:00 am

Tiff @ Mostly YA Lit - Magan, you’re the only person I’ve met who loves Unbreak My Heart just as much as I do! So excited to find your blog (thanks to Jamie @ The Perpetual Pageturner). Can’t wait to read more.

Second Chance Summer is on my shelf and I’ve been dying to get to it. It’s killing me that I haven’t yet…

Thanks for the recs! I’m following now…And if Estelle is reading, apparently, we need to talk about Zac Efron!

December 18, 2012 - 9:23 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Magaaaaaan — your comment just MADE MY NIGHT. You are one of the kindest and sweetest people that I have ever met, and we totally need to meet in real life one day =)

Also, your survey is AWESOME. I share your love for Second Chance Summer and Courtney Summers (thank you thank you for introducing both of these to me!) I’ve JUST discovered Sara Zarr in the last week, and I am in LOVE. I can’t wait to read everything she’s every written. I want to say yes, yes, YES to everything in your whole survey, but I’ll comment on just one last thing: I totally share your sentiments on Requiem. I’m excited, but nervous too — how will the story end? And how will I feel when that whole saga is OVER?

December 18, 2012 - 7:33 pm

VeganYANerds - I am so, so glad you loved I’ll Tell You Mine, hun! It makes me so happy when I send a copy overseas and the recipient loves it! I can’t wait for more of Pip’s work and will happily send you her next book!

Also, I am stoked that you love Sara Zarr too! Her books had been on my to-read list for a while but I didn’t read any until this year and her writing is just amazing!!

December 18, 2012 - 4:09 pm

Lisa [is busy nerding] - Looking through your top books of the year I’m like “yes! yes! want to read that! loved that!” Good taste, my friend.

Having just finished Amy & Roger, I’m SO READY for more Morgan Matson! Good to hear you loved SCS because as previously stated, I tend to adore what you do!

I still have to read Cinder. I KNOW. I know.

FYI – the adoration is clearly mutual. Let’s read Finnikin of the Rock together okay? Great.

December 18, 2012 - 11:39 am

Alexa Y. - I love you Magan! It was truly a pleasure to get to meet you this year, and I certainly hope we can hang out even more in the future. You’ve been such an awesome friend, and book pusher, and just all around talented individual, and I certainly consider you (and E) an inspiration! <3

December 18, 2012 - 10:50 am

Cynthia - I really need to read Second Chance Summer, don’t I?! lol!! I love it when people are so enthusiastic about a certain book. I’ll definitely be looking for that one. And I have How to Save A Life on my tbr pile, I’ll be moving it up to the top now. I’m currently reading What’s Left of Me and even though I really liked the beginning of it I’m starting to put it down more and more.. I’m wondering if it’s going to end up being a disappointment now and should I even bother to continue reading it. =/

December 18, 2012 - 9:44 am

Anna - 1. I love this post. 2. Top goal of 2013? MEET MAGAN AND ESTELLE. Let’s make it happen, yo! <3

December 18, 2012 - 8:59 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Oh Magan, I loved reading this. I feel like you and I got to experience a lot of bookish greatness together this year! Being at TLA with you, getting a copy of Insurgent, & meeting Veronica Roth = AMAZING. I will always remember that 🙂 I love your enthusiasm for books & reading. It fuels my own reading hunger!! When I look back on 2012, the book that will always make me think of you… Unbreak My Heart. It was one of my favorites read this year & I have you to thank for that.

December 18, 2012 - 8:11 am

Rebecca @ Reading Wishes - Thank goodness! *hugs* Good to know I’m not the only one The Disenchantments let down. Seriously thought I was moslty alone there. I loved Second Chance Summer and My Life Next Door too! I’ve yet to read Sara Zarr but soon! I think 2013 will be the year I try her 🙂 That Sweethearts quote? BEAUTIFUL. Which Zarr book do you think is best start with? I read Delirium this year and loved the beginning but felt kinda ‘meh’ about the rest of it. Hmm, intriguing (but awesome news!) that you loved it the second time round! Before I Fall! Though we had a bit of a rough start, I loved it as it went on and THAT ENDING. *sobs* Speechless was amazing and Hannah Harrington is an author who always amazes me! You met Ginger? Lucky you! She is so awesome and one of my favourite bloggers! Also, you met Morgan Matson and she knew who you were? I’m grinning crazy right now because that is off the charts amazing! 😀

December 18, 2012 - 7:43 am

Hemborgwife - I also set 115 as my goal and am currently half way through my 99th so I think I will maybe be about 8 books short but o well!

I loved reading this review and I think I might do something similar on my blog even though it is not a book one and many of the books I read were old but they need love too!

December 18, 2012 - 7:15 am

April Books & Wine - My biggest takeaway from this is that I need to read Second Chance Summer and lucky me, Shanyn got it for me as a Christmas gift! OH OH and How To Save A Life!

ALSO ALSO, Lisa is THE BEST! Seriously, that girl is one of my favorite bloggers and people ever.

Looks like you had a superb year 🙂
