Shelve It: New Books / New Friends / Giveaway

I wonder if I’ll ever NOT be amazed by how fast time is flying. It’s practically been a month since I’ve done one of these, and when I was getting my books together — I was pleasantly surprised how few i’ve bought in the last few weeks. Go me? Don’t get me wrong; so many […]

Alexa S. - I think you got some pretty excellent things book-wise, if you ask me! I still want a copy of Jojo Moyes’ books πŸ™‚ Happy reading!

July 27, 2014 - 4:54 pm

tabithasbookblog - Breathe, Annie, Breathe was so good! It ended up being one of my favorites in the Hundred Oaks series, so I’m interested in hearing what your thoughts are. (or have you already read it)?

And then Blazed looks really good! I’m going to look into it.

July 27, 2014 - 2:59 pm

Brianna - I’m a new reader to your blog. I can’t wait to check out your reviews!

Shelve It: A Pre-July 4th V-Log

Hello! I know, two weeks in a row of Shelve It? What?!? I find it motivates me more when I do these + it’s been forever since I’ve done a v-log. (Don’t ask me about Instagram videos though… I am a wreck at those. How how how do you say anything in just a few […]

Alexa S. - YAY, YOU GOT BRUNETTE AMBITION! (And yes, I know that this makes my Lea Michele fan status clear to the world, but I LOVE HER.) I haven’t read it yet, but I plan on possibly doing so during this long weekend πŸ˜‰ I’m also going to be reading After I Do soon, which will be my first Reid book, and I’m very much excited to do so. And The Good Girl, and Charlie Glass’s Slippers too! Looks like we’ll both have a happy reading month πŸ™‚

June 30, 2014 - 9:01 am

Big Kids' Table: Books Equal the Best Accessories - […] (I actually chatted about this book in my Shelve It from this weekend.) […]

June 30, 2014 - 8:43 am

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Oh my gosh, your bangs are sooo cute, Estelle! I’ll have to check out Lea Michele’s album. Also, Summer of Yesterday! I definitely need to check that one out, even if the Disney details are small.

June 29, 2014 - 7:29 pm

Leah - First things first: flawless hair is flawless. I’m seriously loving your bangs. haha, mine are in DIRE need of a trim – they’ve got this awful Farah Fawcett flippage going on. (& are we nail twins?? That looks a lot like Julep’s Harriet!)

I looove Atria! When I made that post a while ago about my go-to imprints, they were my first thought. I have fantastic luck with their books! Okay, so when you first showed After I Do, I instantly thought of Forever Interrupted. TOTAL DERAIL HERE, but I just added AID to GR & saw that Hannah gave BOTH books 5 stars and I basically have the exact same taste, so I need to get on these STAT.

The Price of Inheritance caught my eye the moment I first heard about it. I’m a biiig fan of art/artist/art-related things in books, so I cannot wait to see what you think!!

So according to GR, For Once in My Life is already on my To Read list and, reading the summary again, yes yes yes! It sounds cute and summery and fun.

Shelf Awareness kept advertising The Good Girl and it sounded great. What has me even more intrigued is that GR’s Readers Also Enjoyed has Dear Daughter listed and I plowed through that. YAY THRILLERS. I’m a little confused though – GR lists DD’s release as July, but my copy says August. ??? Either way, definitely one to keep an eye out for!

I’ve been curious about Wiggs for a while – ladies buy her books by the armload at work! – and this one immediately appealed to me (I’ve got this crazy dream to become a beekeeper & lucky for me, Pittsburgh has lots of classes!).

Shelve It: Saturday & Summer

Oh man. It’s been about a month since I did one of these. But hello! I’m here. How are you all doing? It’s been a busy few weeks so far — friends visiting, lots of work changes, James finally got a small break from school, the weather is nice — you know the drill. Basically […]

Leah - YAY, My Best Friend, Maybe!! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but ended up reading it an entire sitting. So wonderful!

I’m curious about Searching for Sky. I bought Margot (Adult historical focusing on Anne Frank’s sister!!) that I’m itching to read. πŸ™‚ I’m looking forward to seeing what her YA is like!

June 24, 2014 - 9:59 am

Danielle @ Love at First Page - BOOMERANG! I’m soooo beyond excited for that book it’s ridiculous. I hope you love it! That’s a really great haul you got there – can’t wait to see what you think of all those. πŸ™‚

June 23, 2014 - 12:54 pm

Lucy - You have some awesome book friends! I love verse novels so just added Kiss of Broken Glass to my TBR. Happy summer reading πŸ™‚

Anna - Thank you for the birthday wishes! <3 <3 <3

June 21, 2014 - 8:29 pm

Alexa S. - What a fun book haul post! There are a ton of great titles in here, so YAY YOU. Also, in terms of a book haul, if we were to look at the books I’ve ordered recently, I’m fairly certain I can credit you for at least 1/2 of them. Just saying πŸ˜‰

June 21, 2014 - 6:18 pm

Jen @Fefferbooks - Cracked Up to Be looks super cute! You know…from the cover. πŸ™‚ But we all love covers, yes?

June 21, 2014 - 1:27 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Definitely yay for the first day of summer. We’ve been having GORGEOUS weather the last few days in Syracuse, and it makes me so happy. I own a copy of Catching Jordan and I STILL haven’t read it. It’s terrible. Behind the Scenes looks super cute. I so want to read that one too.

Enjoy your goodies, and the nice weather. Also, I’m totally awful and still haven’t mailed out Grasshopper Jungle to you yet. I promise to mail it out very soon.

June 21, 2014 - 10:19 am

Amy @ Tripping Over Books - I’m envious of your willpower to “not buy things”! I have none, although I’ve been better about it, too, come to think of it.
All of these sound wonderful! I’m really curious about Say What You Will. I was drawn to it at first because, superficially, one of the main characters shares my name. But the story itself sounds very emotional and intense. I can’t recall ever hearing about a book featuring two main characters who suffer from disabilities (although I’m sure I just missed some), and certainly never cerebral palsy.
Also, I read Just One Night, and it was lovely. I know a lot of people liked the way Just One Year ended, and I was impressed with the structure for sure, but my heart wanted just a teensy bit more. This was perfect for that part of me.
Good luck with Beauty Queens! I haven’t had the best luck with Libba Bray’s books, alas. This one included. But I hope you get through it on your second go around!

Top 10 Tuesday: Best Reads of 2014 (So Far)

I had to participate this week because it’s like an experiment. Will these 10 books still be on my list in 6 months? Will they be bumped by something else amazing? It’s hard to say and I love the mystery. (Even if I am an impatient person.) I know I am so pumped to see […]

June 13, 2014 - 11:37 am

Vicky - There are a couple on here that I really want to read, such as Everything Leads To You and definitely Pointe! Also, Open Road Summer is definitely a book I want to purchase, so think I definitely will now!

June 12, 2014 - 10:33 pm

Ellice Y - THIS POST! ESTELLE! Reading this post has seriously turned a not-so-great day into a “YAY, BOOKS!” kind of day. I am SO excited about your list because it has so many titles that I haven’t read yet. I trust your (and Magan’s!) taste in books implicitly, so I’m currently adding lots of books to my shopping cart. Haha. I’ve only read 3 of these, Open Road Summer, Me Before You, and Life by Committee, and I loved them so much. I also have The Things You Kiss Goodbye on my Kindle to read very soon, so it just got bumped up to the top of the list. I brought the One and Only home from work because I saw on Goodreads that you really liked it (bahaha, that sounds creepy doesn’t it? I don’t stalk you, I promise!). I’ve read a couple of Giffin’s other books and was always disappointed, so I’m hoping this will be the one that wins me over.

This is my favorite TTT list of the week. Love it!

June 10, 2014 - 11:43 pm

Devyn - The cover of Everything Leads to You is gorgeous! Definitely adding that one (and the rest of this list) to my TBR πŸ™‚

June 10, 2014 - 10:30 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I just got Everything Leads to You from the library today!!! I’m so excited to read it.

June 10, 2014 - 7:24 pm

Alexa S. - I have Pointe and There Will Come a Time in my pile of books to read (surprise, surprise, it’s ever growing) and I’m looking forward to them both! I’m also thrilled that you convinced me to read Life by Committee and Sorta Like a Rockstar. Plus, I loved Me Before You and Open Road Summer! Great selection of books πŸ™‚

June 10, 2014 - 7:17 pm

tabithasbookblog - I’m really interested in Everything Leads to You! I haven’t read anything by this author before (which I’m hoping to fix soon), but I’ve never heard anything bad! And I can’t remember if Open Road Summer made it onto my list, but Lilah and Reagan’s friendship was my favorite thing about that book!

June 10, 2014 - 6:49 pm

Danielle @ Love at First Page - Ah, I haven’t read most of these, but I did really like There Will Come a Time (male pov = win). Open Road Summer has made a lot of blogger’s lists, and it makes me sad all over again how disappointed I was by it. πŸ™
I will definitely be checking out these other books, though!

June 10, 2014 - 4:39 pm

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - There are so many books here I’ve been on the fence about, but I trust you, lady, and so my TBR list grows and shifts…

June 10, 2014 - 3:02 pm

Kat - Adding several of these to my TBR list! How interesting that in so many of these TTT I’m reading today, there are mostly contemporary stories!

June 10, 2014 - 2:43 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - Y’all always have such a fresh mix of books on here. My TBR grows again!

June 10, 2014 - 11:53 am

Kim @ kimberlyfaye reads - Everything Leads to You, Pointe and There Will Come a Time are on my TBR. I’m looking forward to reading them, whenever I get around to it. πŸ™‚

My TTT.

June 10, 2014 - 11:20 am

Stefani @ Caught Read Handed - You’re right: everyone has Open Road Summer on their list, except for me. It’s on my summer TBR list and I cannot wait to read it. I’m even more excited now that I’ve seen it on so many people’s lists. I also really want to read Everything Leads to You. I’ll have to check it out soon.
Great list!
Here’s my TTT!

June 10, 2014 - 11:05 am

Monica @ A Southern Girls Bookshelf - I loved The One & Only! I love any book that showcases my state [TX]. The best book from Emily Giffin…yet!

June 10, 2014 - 10:57 am

jill - Uh-oh, I am writing a review on The One and Only – -there was very little I liked about it :/ I definitely LOVED Me Before You, though, and Everything Leads to You is on my TBR list!

June 10, 2014 - 10:37 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I, too, thought it would be interesting to look back on this list come December and see which books still deserved the top ten slot. I have There Will Come a Time to read and seeing it as a five star read from you has made me very, very eager to read it sooner, rather than later. Yay!

June 10, 2014 - 10:01 am

Ideklinz - The Nina LaCour book is sitting on my shelf & can’t wait to read–and Me Before You is ready to go on my kindle…although I’m gonna need to really prep myself before I read it :*( pointe & Life By Committee are on my TBR list…ya kno, that ever growing list that never stops haha

June 10, 2014 - 9:18 am

Jennifer from YA Book Nerd - Great list – I loved Everything Leads Back to You.

June 10, 2014 - 9:16 am

Meg - I’m totally getting The One and Only ASAP — though you’re definitely right about Giffin’s recent misses, she’s still a must-read author for me — and I’m psyched about this one!

So many other great books here, none of which I’ve read! I see my wishlist growing exponentially . . .

Top 10 Tuesday: Not Reviewed but Highly Recommended

Oh hey there! Since it’s a freebie week, I thought I would jump in today and BE CREATIVE. I recruited my husband to help me think of a topic. Options ranged from BOOKS WITH MUPPET REFERENCES and BOOKS THAT COULDN’T FIT INTO ANY OTHER TOP 10 LIST. But I settled on this one because it’s […]

Alexa S. - Oh, I loved the Time Between Us series! It gave me lots of feelings, in the best way, and I’m so glad I wound up reading them. I also got reminded that I want to read Alienated and Kiss the Morning Star, thanks to your post, and I’m thrilled you enjoyed them both!

June 1, 2014 - 5:07 am

Judith - Oooh, this is a good topic for a TTT! I wish that I read enough to write little reviews like this, but alas, I’m a slow reader and I review pretty much everything I read. I’ve only read Anatomy of a Boyfriend, but I totally enjoyed it. I think it’s great that it’s so open about sexuality and the transition from high school to college. And Past Perfect and Kiss the Morning Star are about best friends? MUST HAVE!

May 29, 2014 - 9:36 pm

maria helena - Great list! I’m gonna have to add some of these to my tbr list.

May 28, 2014 - 4:40 pm

Alexa - I have a great co-blogger on my blog but I still like to review almost all of the books that I read even if I didn’t like them that much or have strong feelings one way or the other.

May 27, 2014 - 8:58 pm

Lucy - Love this! I think this topic should be in the regular TTT rotation. Since it’s impossible to review everything, this at least gives the book some acknowledgement.

I didn’t review Dr. Bird or Uses for Boys either but enjoyed them both very much! Kiss the Morning Star and Time Between Us are books I keep meaning to read.

May 27, 2014 - 7:53 pm

Cecelia - What a fun list idea! I review maybe 1/4 of the books I read, so this would be a fun pick for the next freebie TTT. Also: I haven’t read any of these books. Eeek!

May 27, 2014 - 3:44 pm

Rachel - I’ve only been blogging since March, but to-date I’ve done a review of every book I’ve read. I’m going to start doing DNF reviews and a collection of mini-reviews for some books, as I find some I have a lot to say and for others I struggle to do s full review, so I’m going to pull them together into the one. Great idea for a topic!

May 27, 2014 - 3:17 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - I love this topic because I think we all must have some of these. I definitively don’t review every book I read, but the ones I seem to especially skip are the last books in series. I have reviewed them but it never seems right. I have a lot of these in my TBR so I’ll have to be sure and make time for them. πŸ™‚

May 27, 2014 - 11:24 am

Laura - WOW! I haven’t read any of these. Thank you for these recommendations!

There are a few books I’ve read but haven’t reviewed, mostly because I didn’t have a place to review them (blog, Goodreads, didn’t bother with retail sites) or knew how to review. But I’m always recommending Tana French’s Dublin Murder Squad series, just about everything written by Sarah Dessen and Jodi Picoult, and obviously Harry Potter. Nowadays, if I don’t post a review, it’s because I literally do not have the words. I can only rate it, and it’s usually off the charts!

My TTT

May 27, 2014 - 9:39 am

Ginger @ GReads! - What a great topic idea! Since I’m not the fastest reader, I typically review most of what I read. However, there are a few that slip by and never make it on the blog. If I can’t finish a book, then I don’t review it. There have been some steamy romances that I read for pure pleasure and don’t review either. I like that you mentioned Uses for Boys in your list today. I remember talking about this book in length with you during & after I read it. I know lots of people hated it, but it was comforting to know that we shared a lot of the same opinions about it. And Yay for Mindi Scott! She will always be on my auto-buy list πŸ™‚

Shelve It: Some Books + Pepper

Can you hear the relief that comes with a 3-day weekend? Especially the one that signifies the start of summer? I’ll admit — the weather isn’t exactly summery in NYC right now. J + I spent the day dodging the rain and also commenting on how chilly it was feeling out. I’m hoping as mostΒ of […]

Jess @ Gone with the Words - I’m so happy to hear you liked TFIOS movie because I know you didn’t LOVE the book. And the soundtrack IS TOTALLY AMAZING. I bought it and can say there’s only one song I don’t like. πŸ™‚

May 26, 2014 - 1:22 am

Lucy - Ooh you saw TFIOS? I bought my tix but will have to wait until June 6. Glad to hear you liked it!

OMG I loved loved loved Everything Leads to You as well. Yay! Perhaps you will like Hold Still better than the Disenchantments? That is a special book.

The Amazon / Hachette situation is so disheartening. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Hope you have a blast at BEA!
PS. Pretty kitty!

May 25, 2014 - 8:01 pm

April Books & Wine - I am glad TFIOS is good.

I need to read Everything Leads To You.

YAYYYYY BEA!

Also, yay buying books, boo strong arm methods.

May 25, 2014 - 3:24 pm

Lola - No 3 day weekend for me as I live in the netherlands. I can’t visit the real BEA, but I’ll be participating in Armchair BEA. I am really excited as it’s my first time participating.
Also your cat looks adorable. I have four rats and sometimes try to photograph them with my books, but they usually don’t want to sit still.
I haven’t read TFIOS yet and don’t really plan on seeing the movie either. I guess I’ll eventually read it, but I am in no hurry to read it. I am afraid I might enjoy it less, because of all the hype surrounding it.

May 25, 2014 - 3:21 pm

Alexa S. - Hiiiii Pepper! Also, thank you for including a link to my (way too long) post, and for sharing the books you’ve bought! I’m also very intrigued by The One and Only now, as well as Everything Leads To You πŸ™‚ Glad you enjoyed them both!

May 25, 2014 - 1:07 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - I’m relieved to hear that I’m not alone in not LOVING beyond all loves TFIOS, and to know that you can still like the movie without the over the moon feels for the book. And who doesn’t like a good soundtrack?

Come on, NYC! Bring the summer weather!

May 25, 2014 - 9:25 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Hi, Pepper!!
Oh, interesting to hear about TFioS! I wasn’t a mega-fan of the book either but the trailer actually perked up some emotions in me that I didn’t know I had for these characters. I like both of the leads and I think I like Shailene a lot more in a contemporary setting than I do dystopian. I think she’s good for Hazel.
Ohhh my trip to the bookstore was way worse haha. I left with six books (and they don’t have the one I REALLY set out to buy) and a B&N membership. oops. Guess I better take advantage of that πŸ˜‰
Happy Sunday! Can’t wait to see you next week!!
