Shelve It: Upcoming Nook/Kindle Reads

It’s Sunday! Woo! Just wanted to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who left us comments, tweeted us, etc. for our 2-year blog anniversary. We have definitely been riding a high all week, and even more so because our first Twitter Chat was absolutely so much fun and we can’t wait to do it again. […]

Alexa Y. - Wow! You girls have got quite an amazing selection of books. I think I’m most looking to Love Letters to the Dead and Going Rogue, which I have too!

November 11, 2013 - 3:42 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Corinne Demas was my first year seminar professor in college. I requested Returning to Shore on NG, but got declined. Which is fine, I more just wanted to read it because I hated her as a professor, haha.

November 10, 2013 - 12:31 pm

Lucy @ The Reading Date - Lots of great looking 2014 titles! INK and Going Rogue are a couple I’m eager to read.
Enjoy!

November 10, 2013 - 11:56 am

Bookworm1858 - I have a lot of those same books to read too-they all look so intriguing!

I’m hoping to read some more adult books like Booker winner The Luminaries as well as business/leadership non-fiction to aid in my professional development. So that will make 2014 an interesting mix of YA, MG, even some NA and then adult stuff.

Congrats again on 2 years!

Lena @ Addicted 2 Novels - FINGERPRINTS OF YOU! I EFFING LOVE THAT BOOK!

November 4, 2013 - 5:51 pm

Alexa Y. - Hooray for two years of RBR! I’m so happy that blogging brought us together, as my life would be so less awesome without you both. <3

November 3, 2013 - 11:17 pm

Lisa Schensted - TWO YEARS! YIPEE!
I’m totes on that twitter chat, too! See ya there, homies.

November 3, 2013 - 7:23 pm

Paige - I bought myself a copy of Allegiant a week or two ago and I’m dying to read it! But I’m afraid to because I don’t want the trilogy to end. Good luck with everything Magan! And I hope you both enjoy everything!

My IMM

November 3, 2013 - 2:22 pm

Liz (Along for the Read) - Estelle- I hate covers with faces, which is the sole reason that I have not yet purchased or read Just One Year yet. I’m going to hold out for the library copy, and hope that the paperback matches Just One Day (because I also really like that paperback cover)

Magan- I hope everything turns out well with your foster daughter, that must be a roller coaster of emotions, but it is so amazing that you have been able to experience all of that. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.

I am so looking forward to the RBR chat on Tuesday! Can’t wait to talk to you both!

November 3, 2013 - 1:50 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Aww, Magan. I hope things go as well as they can with your family. I really liked The Distance Between Us, too. It’s a light sweet read – maybe something you might need right now. I also need to stop buying, and then not reading my books.

Estelle – Prom & Prejudice is super cute. I don’t love all of Elizabeth Eulberg’s books, but that one is at the top of my list. I also really like The Lonely Heart’s Club. When I have a down day, I like to head to the book store, too.

I’m writing myself a reminder right now for your Twitter Chat. Congrats on two years of blogging!

Shelve It: A Surprise in the Mail

Hi friends! Hope you are having a blast of a weekend. I spent my weekend with friends and enjoying lots of kinds of beer. 🙂 Just the way a weekend should be! Are you enjoying some awesome books? The fall? A pumpkin latte? Here’s a very quick video (or at least shorter than my normal […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I’m the loser that totally watched this video back when you posted it but never commented on it. So happy you liked my picks and can’t wait to see what you think after reading them 🙂 I love the Eva Rice connection that I didn’t know about – makes it even more fitting for you! Thank you SO much again for sending me the signed Lauren Graham book. YOU ROCK!

November 4, 2013 - 4:17 pm

Alexa Y. - Your cardigans are so cute! I absolutely LOVE that color. And it looks like you’ve got such fun reading material in your hands — enjoy it all!

October 21, 2013 - 10:05 am

Lena @ Addicted 2 Novels - You guys are too cute. You have to let me know how Crash Into You is. I’ve been dying to read that one. 🙂

October 20, 2013 - 8:51 pm

VeganYANerds - Hey lady! The Art of Keeping Secrets sounds good, I love books set in past decades. And I hope you manage to keep Just One Year until your weekend away, I would be reading it immediately!!

Love your cat distracting you, mine do the same 😉

October 20, 2013 - 7:58 pm

Bookworm1858 - Love the cardigan matching 🙂 My sister and I have the same cardigan (in different colors) but very rarely manage to sync up our wearing of them.

October 20, 2013 - 12:18 pm

April Books & Wine - LOL, I love it, cardigan twins!

Also yay for surprise packages.

I plan on reading Rock And A Hard Place soon after reading Asheley’s glowing review of it.

Have a nice trip! 😀

Top 10 Tuesday: Happy Recommendations + Requirements

Happy Tuesday all! I am so in love with today’s Top 10 Tuesday topic from the Broke and the Bookish. As book bloggers and book lovers, I’m sure so many of us are also “book pushers”. It is all too frequent that I’m talking to someone and a book recommendation pops in my head. Or […]

Alexa Y. - This is a pretty awesome list! I think it’s particularly cool that you read Harry Potter for school, and also that your officiant recommended Anna to you. There are a few titles on this list that I think I should check out now…

October 17, 2013 - 8:15 pm

Michele @ Just a Lil Lost - I love the way you’ve laid out the books in that graphic 🙂
Oh One Day.. i loved that book too… and omg I can’t believe you got to study Harry Potter in a class!! Best. Class. Ever.!!!

Thanks for stopping by my TTT! 🙂

Michele

October 16, 2013 - 9:39 pm

Lauren @ Love is not a triangle - I love the way you highlighted recommendations from friends in this TTT. Besides Harry Potter, the only one of these I’ve read is NOWHERE BUT HOME, and that was also a recommend that I LOVED so very much. Oh wait, that’s a lie, but I don’t want to change what I wrote above. I just checked and I’ve read ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND – and wasn’t sure about continuing the series but Betty has convinced me that I MUST go on. Also, I’ve read Anna and the French Kiss, and THAT was a recommendation that the Teen librarian gave me. She doesn’t push a lot of books specifically, but I remember her loving and really promoting that one. Anyway, great TTT.

October 16, 2013 - 5:13 pm

Reviews from a Bookworm - I really enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss & One Day. My life would not be the same without Harry, Hermione and Ron in it! I’m actually surprised by how many people I’ve seen who had to be forced to read Harry Potter. My TTT

October 16, 2013 - 11:38 am

Hannah - I’m the exact same with Harry Potter, I feel like a failure of a fan when I confess that I wasn’t an immediate fan. Harry Potter made my list too, and I’m so glad that I did finally read it because I was immediately a fan and couldn’t believe that it had taken me so long to pick it up!

October 15, 2013 - 10:05 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - I didn’t realize you’re a fan of This is Not a Test! I love that book so much and it’s totally not a “me” book either. I feel like Courtney Summers can do absolutely anything!

October 15, 2013 - 8:19 pm

Ellice - I was also one of the ones who Cassie talked into buying Nowhere But Home. I started reading it last night and I’m loving it!

I also brought Alice and Zombieland home from work the other night… I’m so easily persuaded! Haha

Since I’ve started writing guest reviews for Judith, my TBR list is multiplying like craaaazy. I love getting book recs 🙂

October 15, 2013 - 1:23 pm

Aly @ My Heart Hearts Books - 1. Love the Monsters Inc. Pic at the end, brilliant.

2. Anna and The French Kiss and Harry Potter makes any list instantly better.

I haven’t read One Day, but I love the movie, so I have to go back and read it. Great list.

October 15, 2013 - 12:57 pm

Christianna - The cover for Nowhere But Here made me go and put it on my TBR list! I also love Hart of Dixie so I feel like this book and I will get along!
My TTT

October 15, 2013 - 11:37 am

Allison L - I keep seeing Alice in Zombieland on people’s lists. I haven’t ever had the urge to pick it up before I just might have to give it a shot if everyone seems to love it so much! Plus, I really like your explanation of it.

October 15, 2013 - 10:31 am

Daisel @ Owl Always Be Reading - I was also forced to read Anna and The French Kiss (which is on my list for today, LOL). I own This Is Not a Test but I haven’t gotten to it yet and I have heard great things about Alice in Zombieland. Great list 🙂

Here is My Top Ten Tuesday
Xoxo. Daisel @ Owl Always Be Reading

October 15, 2013 - 10:06 am

Andi - It’s so funny how many people never read Anna because of a cover/title(myself included) until someone pushed it on them

October 15, 2013 - 9:15 am

Betty - HAHHAHA…. I don’t think I’ll be able to get that image from the end of your post out of my head until I read some of those books. I haven’t read a bunch of them so I better get adding them to my list…. or else?

I am so happy that you read Alice in Zombieland and even more happy that you really liked it!!! Zombies can be a pretty tough sell. haha But I think just about anyone would fall in love with THIS SERIES!!! Get reading Through the Zombie Glass!

October 15, 2013 - 8:38 am

Cassie - HAHAHAHHAH. I legit laughed while reading about my pushy/bossiness 😉 <3 Love you! SO GLAD you enjoyed Nowhere But Home and I also must say I willlllll try JH Trumble and Alice because of you. Alice made me nervous but.. you give me hope 🙂

October 15, 2013 - 8:29 am

Christina @ Allodoxophobia - One Day I just could not get into. So I saw the movie and was glad I didn’t invest my time. I’m glad you liked it though! And HP – on so many lists today!

October 15, 2013 - 7:33 am

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - Hmmm I’ve very curious re: your Alice in Zombieland thoughts. I keep feeling like it’s not a series I’d like at all, but hmmmmmm……

October 15, 2013 - 6:59 am

Ciara @ Ciara Reads Books - Anna and the French Kiss and In Cold Blood are on my to-read list. I also like the sound of Alice in Zombieland so that could be added to it too! 🙂

October 15, 2013 - 6:34 am

Sandra @ Tea Between Books - Hard to say that but I never was interested in Harry Potter books as well. I really loved the movies though. Maybe it was because I was in a 2-year-long reading slump (that happened) or maybe I was just perfectly satisfied with only the movies. But finally picked up one of the books (I read Order of the Phoenix first) and I ended up loving it. So I ran to the library, took out all the books from the series and didn’t eat, sleep or pee until I was finished with the books. Can’t believe I thought the movies is all the best there could be to the story!

October 15, 2013 - 4:04 am

Nadia - Haha! I was also forced to read Harry Potter! Of course then it turned out to be one of my favorite books!!

October 15, 2013 - 1:12 am

Elizabeth - HAHAHAH oh my god I love the picture of Roz at the end!

I’m always so happy that people who discovered Harry Potter later than the rest of us still love the series. After the past week when I discovered that one of my friends thought the series was boring (WHAT??) and another thought the world building wasn’t good (WHAT THE WHAT??!!? SERIOUSLY??!? I refused to speak to him for the rest of dinner), you have reaffirmed my faith in humanity!

October 15, 2013 - 1:02 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I also purchased a copy of Nowhere But Home because of Cass’ book pushing — so you can add me to the list 😉 I’ve read some truly amazing books because I was encouraged to by other bloggers (um, Fingerprints of You? I have YOU to thank on that one!) and that’s one of the things that I love most about this community!

October 15, 2013 - 12:21 am

Bookworm1858 - I can’t believe you had to be forced to read HP! Of course there are two ladies in my office who haven’t read the series either though I’m working on them right now because I can’t imagine them not loving the series the way I do!

Shelve It: Paperbacks + Amazon Stories (10/5/13)

Helloooo, friends! I haven’t done a v-log since Labor Day. That seems crazy to me. Now that I think about it, I must have bought more books but I honestly can’t remember. Beware: I kind of go on a tangent about Amazon in my video today, and talk a lot of nonsense maybe. But it’s […]

Alexa Y. - I definitely need to read Nowhere But Home! Everyone has been talking up that book so much that I’m VERY intrigued by it. I’m assuming by this point you’ve already read it, yes? I hope you enjoyed it as much as everyone else did.

October 9, 2013 - 8:25 pm

Ellice - HAHA– they are “making” me read Nowhere But Home too! You know it’s totally against my will of course 😉 The poor mailman probably wonders why I’ve had a scowl on my face every day this week… I’m mad at him because he hasn’t brought me this book yet! 🙂 I can’t wait to read it! It’s so rare that I find an adult fiction book that I enjoy these days, so I’m super excited when somebody recommends one that they LOVED!

October 7, 2013 - 11:07 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Oh yeah, I would have been so disappointed if a book I’d pre-ordered from Amazon was so late, and then to top it off, damaged as well. I really enjoy just poking around a bookstore (or library) and picking up books at random.

I’ve heard great things about Jordan Sonnenblick, but I’ve never read any of his books. I should check some of his books out. I know we have a few at my library. I’ve been into male POV books lately.

Anyway, enjoy your new goodies. Happy reading 🙂

October 7, 2013 - 8:43 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I have YOU Estelle, to blame (thank?) for my latest book purchase! hehe I will get to it as soon as I finish my latest JEchols book. Wheee!

October 6, 2013 - 4:29 pm

Lucy - The Jim Henson bio sounds so interesting. Glad you enjoyed it! I definitely like to mix in biographies here and there so I’ll keep it in mind, and maybe pick up the audio.

And I’ve heard such good things about Nowhere but Home! It’s waiting patiently on my kindle to be read. Looking forward to your review.

Have a great week!

Shelve It: September 15, 2013

Hi all! Hope you are having a great weekend so far. I think fall is finally happening in New York City. After a few days of crazy humidity, we’ve had our apartment windows open and it’s actually COLD at night and in the morning. Kind of insane. What’s also kind of insane is that James […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Basically, what I took away from this is that you bought NOWHERE BUT HOME (yay!) but still haven’t read it yet (boo!). So, let’s make that happen. I mean, Zac Efron is involved so it’s a serious promise you made.

September 18, 2013 - 3:21 am

Alexa Y. - I can’t wait to get back and feel the fall weather! It’s always been my favorite of the seasons, with summer coming a close second. So excited. Also, the cover for Vintage Attraction looks great! I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it.

September 17, 2013 - 10:37 pm

Lucy @ The Reading Date - Glad you had a nice trip to The Hamptons. That’s a gorgeous shot.

I picked up Sad Poets recently too and I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it. Vintage Attraction is new to me, and I’ve been meaning to start Nowhere but Home. (so many good books to read!)
Just started reading Between Us. Hope you’re liking it.

Enjoy all your new books!

September 16, 2013 - 1:52 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Great picture! You guys picked a great day to come out this way, the weather was amazing yesterday. I’m excited to read Something Real. I was so disappointed with You Look Different in Real Life and I’m hoping Something Real, which sounds somewhat similar, will be better at living up to my expectations. Have a good week!

September 16, 2013 - 12:38 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I’ve never been to the Hamptons, but that photo is beautiful. You weren’t kidding about the clouds!

The weather has been very fickle in CNY. One day the high is in the fifties, the next day the high is in the 80s. But I think fall is pretty much here now. It’s definitely cooler and night and in the morning. I love it!

I like to read non-fiction every once in a while, too. I LOVE Steve Sheinkin who writes middle-grade non-fiction. He’s written Bomb (which won a zillion awards this year), The Notorious Benedict Arnold (which also won a whole bunch of awards) and Lincoln’s Grave Robbers (which I haven’t read yet, but will sometime soon).

Anyway, enjoy your books.

September 15, 2013 - 6:31 pm

Jen - WOOAH. I love the cover for Vintage Attraction, but I read the synopsis and I’m not sure if it’s my type of read. I’ll be looking forward to your review! And Something Real sounds really good, I can’t wait to see the cover for that one! Happy reading!

September 15, 2013 - 5:24 pm

Lisa (heylisarenee) - I seem to remember you saying something about your college closing your sophomore year…did you blog about that before? Or am I just a REALLY good stalker?

And another Echols book?! I need to keep up with her awesomeness!

September 15, 2013 - 2:44 pm

Bookworm1858 - I got Something Real from NG too-I’m really excited to check it out and curious as to what the cover will look like!

September 15, 2013 - 12:24 pm

Rachel - Ohh, I forgot to tell you! I read Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets after that event and really liked it! It was different than what I’m used to, but in a good way. You should tell me what you think when you finish.

Your pictures of the Hamptons look gorgeous! When I come back and visit you’ll have to take me there 🙂
