Aneeqah - Happy belated birthday Magan! VeganYANerds - Ooops! Forgot to thank you for the lovely shout out πŸ™‚ <3

July 16, 2012 - 6:31 am

VeganYANerds - Sounds like you had a really great weekend, hun!

I think Simone’s books are quite fun, and a bit cheesy but that’s part of the appeal. And I have read SO many good reviews of the hex Hall series, I am determined to read them this year.

Your books from ALA sound good, especially Through to Me and Insignia – I got it this week too and while it doesn’t sound like something I’d normally choose, I keep reading about how good it is!

July 15, 2012 - 10:34 pm

elena - YAY FOR SLEEPING IN!! I <3 Half Price Books too, sad that there isn't one here though. My cousin always jokes I should just own a HPB. I LOVE HEX HALL and I really hope you will too! I think Demonglass was what made me really love the series though. I agree about the authors thing, the power of technology! Also hmm, Who I Kissed has a certainly interesting summary. I've heard good things about Insignia, can't wait to read it. I think The Forsaken has a really pretty cover. I hope you had a fantastic weekend, Magan! x

July 15, 2012 - 10:17 pm

July 15, 2012 - 2:33 pm

manda-rae - Hex Hall and Perfect Chemistry; I will pick those two up one day (it’s all about will power). And I’ve heard a lot of good things about Insignia from multiple people, but I still don’t know if I’m sold on the book’s premise enough to read it. I’ll be on the lookout for your review.

Thanks for visiting my haul.

July 15, 2012 - 2:21 pm

Olivia @Nerdy Book Reviews - This looks like a great haul of books. I’ve heard lots of things about Hex Hall, so I hope you enjoy that one in particular.

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - Hi Magan! Always nice to watch your Shelve It posts! I love your bookshelf, by the way! So organized!

I featured Insignia in my Sunday post as well! I just met S.J. Kincaid at the Dark Days signing in SLC on Wednesday, and she told me all about her book. It sounds like a lot of fun, and she is super nice. I’m excited to read my copy as well! We’ll have to compare notes. πŸ™‚

I’m still working my way through Flirting in Italian. You’ve intrigued me enough with the train wreck of an ending, that I’ve decided to trudge through it to see what happens. Then I’ll be starting in on Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown.

Have fun reading!

July 3, 2012 - 11:27 am

Magan - Hi Kim! I didn’t ask for these books, but Simon & Schuster was gracious and kind enough to send them to me. They’re familiar with the types of books I usually read and are also pushing me to get out of my comfort zone a bit. πŸ™‚ They’re a fantastic publisher and I’m so thankful for their generosity. If you’re hoping to establish relationships with publishers, my advice is to follow up with them for the review books you’re reading. If you do netgalley or get books from conferences, make sure you touch base with them and do send through a review. I think follow-through and consistency goes a long way. Hope this helps!

July 3, 2012 - 10:16 am

Kim - They just sent you a box of books? or did you ask for them?

July 3, 2012 - 2:21 am

VeganYANerds - I bet ALA was fun and hooray for meeting Morgan!

Nice stack of books! S&S in Australia are really fantastic, too. I still haven’t read Second Chance Summer, even though I have a copy and I enjoyed Hush, Hush. It’s not the best series ever written but it was a fun read!

July 2, 2012 - 10:02 am

April Books & Wine - I am curious how you’ll feel about the relationship in Hush, Hush. I’ve zero interest in reading that series, but I like reading people’s reactions to it. That’s strange isn’t it?

ANYWAYS!

I love seeing all those pretty contemps stacked up.

Happy reading πŸ˜€

July 1, 2012 - 5:56 pm

margie {the bumble girl} - Oh, I love the Hush, Hush series! You’re either going to love Patch or hate him, lol. The third book was a bit of a disappointment, but I’m hoping that the last one will make up for it!
Great stack of books, I hope you’re enjoying them right now πŸ™‚

July 1, 2012 - 2:30 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - I need to buy Second Chance Summer! I just finished Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, which was SO cute. I heard they make an appearance in Second Chance Summer, which makes me ridiculously excited! I also enjoyed Hush, Hush, so I hope that you will too. =)

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I really enjoyed Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour – it’s definitely a good summer read! And, if you want to mix things up a little this summer, I really love Emily Giffin. She writes adult chick lit type books, but they are PERFECT for the pool or beach. My favorite is Love the One You’re With – READ IT!

May 22, 2012 - 11:29 am

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Because I didn’t yell it enough on twitter…THIS LULLABY!! πŸ˜€

May 20, 2012 - 7:03 pm

VeganYANerds - Hey Magan, great vlog! I really love the green accents in your room <3

I definitely want to pick up Amy & Roger, especially is Estelle liked it and you got some great recs for summer reads, I'll be adding some of them to my list too!

And I completely understand how you feel about WWII books and while I rate Code Name Verity a 10 for sadness, it's definitely different to The Book Thief and it did leave me feeling really down for a few days. So when you read it, I will send you virtual hugs πŸ™‚ xox

May 20, 2012 - 6:27 pm

ShootingStarsMag - I still need to read Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, but I do own it, so I’m in the right direction. haha It looks great though, and it’s a perfect read for this summer.

May 20, 2012 - 5:49 pm

Paige - You got some awesome books this week! I can’t wait to read Revived because I love the cover and Code Name Verity because I’ve had it on my kindle for awhile! Magan - Elena, we’re like book twins. Seriously – the way books affect us. I will need to be in the right frame of mind for Code Name Verity, but I do look forward to it. I suppose it’s nice to be reminded of things that did happen so as not to forget.

May 20, 2012 - 1:46 pm

Magan - Hi Elizabeth! You WIN for best comment ever! Thank yo uso much for the suggestions. I’m headed to Goodreads right now to check out these authors! πŸ™‚ I’m also headed to your blog. Love the name!

May 20, 2012 - 1:44 pm

Magan - YAY! I hope you love it when you do, Nicole! I’ve added it to my TBR list as well!

May 20, 2012 - 1:44 pm

Magan - Melissa, thanks for confirming Dessen’s books for me! I’ve read The Truth About Forever, but can’t wait to crack open the pages of This Lullaby! Also, I usually don’t read much MG, but will check into that book. Sometimes changing things up can make a world of difference! πŸ™‚ Thanks, lady!

May 20, 2012 - 1:25 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I wholeheartedly second the recommendations for This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever. These are definitely her two best books (and I’ve read them ALL), but The Truth About Forever is my absolute favourite.

I don’t know if you read much middle grade (I don’t usually, but made an exception for this one because Wendy Darling loved it so much), but I just read Wonder by R.J. Palacio last weekend and absolutely LOVED it. It’s such a feel good read, with a great story and loveable characters. I’d highly recommend it!

May 20, 2012 - 12:58 pm

Nicole - Oooo, I’ve been meaning to read AVALON HIGH!

May 20, 2012 - 10:16 am

Elizabeth - I am so glad I stumbled upon your site!

I am always looking for something good to read and I read an ecclectic mix of things.

For summer, I really enjoy light hearted books. We are constantly on the go and it’s nice to have a book to pick up and just enjoy.

I used to be completely opposed to chick lit, but in the past few years I have really enjoyed a lot of books others would consider this genre.

I love Kristan Higgans…the covers of the books are very girly, and some might pas them over for cheap romance novels but they are nothing of the sort. She is wonderful at creating characters that are flawed yet relatable and loveable. She has a great dialogue and sweet stories. She is also fun to follow in FB.

Another summer favorite is Elin Hildrebrand. All of her books are based in Nantucket and have interesting plots and characters. Good beach reads.

Kristin Hannah is another favorite, although her last book wasn’t my favorite.

I like Jodi Picoult as well but I have read everything out there of hers.

Would love to find something great to read now!

May 20, 2012 - 10:03 am

elena - THIS LULLABY!!!!! Along with The Truth About Forever, it’s my favourite by her. I hope you like Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour. I haven’t read The Book Thief yet but I know I need to! I’m very wary of WWII books because they make me incredibly anxious and as you said, it breaks my heart. Ooh, I just remembered! I think the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares would be a good summer read!

You look really cute in the video, btw, and I love all the mint greenness going on in your background. πŸ™‚
