Happy holidays, friends!
I have a bunch of Christmas traditions every single year, but the one that probably outshines them all is listening to Christmas carols. Since I was a little kid, I have such strong memories of listening to Perry Como while we decorated our tree and the rest of the house; my mom and I would listen to her old cassette of Johnny Mathis in her car as we drove to the mall to do some secret shopping.
This love for the music of the seasons has stayed with me, and just skyrocketed. I own almost 900 holiday tunes on my iPod alone, and one of my absolute favorite things to do is to make mixes for my friends for the holidays.
As a special treat today, I’m going to share two with you.
My main tip when creating the PERFECT collection of songs is to mix the classic and the contemporary. It’s a lot like books. The classics do not disappear, and newer material is definitely inspired by those vintage goodies.
First up is the mix I actually made for Magan last year.
Here’s the link so you can listen to the 15-track Spotify playlist.
What you can expect: Tom Petty, Frank Sinatra, Hilary Duff, Jason Mraz, etc. (Pretty eclectic, right?)
And now for the very special Rather Be Reading Holiday Mix for 2012:
25 songs just for you! I don’t want to give it all away but you there’s a little Train, some Justin Bieber, Bing Crosby, and Straight No Chaser.
Hope you enjoy this glimpse into one of my holiday traditions!
If you feel like heading to the comments, I’d love to know some of your favorite songs! (I’m always looking for more…)
