If you ever checked out our ABOUT page, you may already know that Magan and I met at one of my best friends’ weddings back in February of last year. I was a bridesmaid visiting Austin for the second time (and a week out from my own wedding). Magan was the lovely photographer that my friend’s mom found online. (She’s infinitely proud of this.) I remember being completely blown away when I first saw my friend’s engagement photos.
When I met Magan a few hours before the wedding, I was really surprised by how young she was. (Isn’t that silly? My own wedding photographers were young too.) But she was very sweet, professional, and I loved the way she did her job. I was kind of known as the bridesmaid who was about to get married, and she was nice enough to ask me about my husband-to-be and what our wedding was going to be like. And that’s where it popped up for the first time — books. (My husband and I incorporated them a lot in our wedding.) It’s probably hard to believe but we didn’t talk much more than that. She was doing her job and I was busy sampling all the fantastic beer. (Maybe too busy doing that. ha)
A week later, I got married, went away on a 2-week honeymoon, and when I got back… I had a friend request from Magan on Facebook and we started talking more about books on Twitter. (BTW, her pictures were magnificent! Amazing. We still talk about them in my office. Here’s the feature on Style Me Pretty… fun sidenote: yes that first picture is my chest. And that big picture of Carly and David shouldn’t be blurry – SMP stretched and pixelated it.)
I always like those ironic “how they met” stories.
Here’s a picture of Carly and me taken by Magan. (Scroll down to the very bottom of the post for a few photo booth outtakes from the evening.)
I honestly can’t believe it’s been a year since my friend’s wedding. It feels so far away and too close to be true all at the same time. Having Magan in my life has been so incredible and so much fun. She’s such a dedicated blog partner, enthusiastic, and completely supportive. And a great friend to have in every other aspect of life. (We finally get to hang out in person in a few weeks & I am so psyched!)
To celebrate our one-year anniversary (do we sound in love or what?), we are giving away one copy of The Fault in Our Stars by the mega-amazing John Green. Yay, book giveaway! My fabulous and talented celebrant (and fellow YA obsessive), Jessie of Eclectic Unions, contacted us about an extra copy she had obtained and wanted to know if we would want to use it as a giveaway. So here we are. Big huge, cupcake-filled thanks to Jessie (who first introduced me to Anna & the French Kiss)!
Good luck! Can’t wait to see who wins!
P.S. Happy weekend!
