Our Thoughts on “Pitch Perfect” + Giveaway

Happy Tuesday afternoon friends!

Last night, we had the opportunity for a little night out! Although in totally different states (hey New York City & Austin!), we were psyched to catch a sneak preview of “Pitch Perfect”, out in theaters everywhere on October 5 & select theaters this Friday, September 28!

Pitch Perfect in theaters: October 5!

Do you follow us on Instagram? Estelle = stellemarie. Magan = magan.

You might be asking: how does this fit in with our blog? Well Pitch Perfect is actually based on a book by Mickey Rapkin, a journalist who followed various acapella groups for an entire season. How cool is that?

So did we like it?

magan. Pitch Perfect is a laugh-out-loud funny movie with a diverse group of characters. Anna Kendrick does a fantastic job portraying reluctant college freshman, Beca, who would rather go out and immerse herself in the LA music scene than spend time studying. She is pulled into the a cappella group, The Bellas, where she helps fuse together the hilariously awkward group of girls that make-up the all-girls singing group. The music and competition was definitely the highlight of Pitch Perfect; it left me wishing I could sing and carry a tune.

estelle. I really get a huge thrill out of watching people sing and dance so for a musical theater fan and a dedicated viewer of Glee, Smash, and The Sing Off (the acapella reality show), Picture Perfect definitely stole my attention when it came to the performances (and some great song choices!). The story is a little light but it has a bit of everything: a daughter wanting to break out, worried parents, and everything that comes along with being thrust into college life for the first time. Typical (and over the top) college humor and the occasional (awesome) appearances by Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins made this movie a lot of fun! Perfect for a date night with your girlfriends!

fun fact. Anna Kendrick is really singing! The actress, best known for her role in Up in the Air, was in the cult favorite, CAMP, and also scored a Tony nomination in 1998 for the musical, High Society!

Here’s a scene from Pitch Perfect for you to check out:

We love that scene!

Now, Universal Pictures has been generous enough to offer a fab gift pack for two lucky winners! (Unfortunately, this contest is for U.S. residents only.)

The prize:

+ Copy of the book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory (movie tie-in edition)
+ Pitch Perfect T-shirt
+ Aca-Awesome Magnetic Poetry
+ Plus ear buds, sunglasses, pen & post-it notes

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So mark your calendars for October 5 (or September 28 for limited release)! And don’t be shy… definitely tweet us and let us know when you see the movie!

We can geek out over our favorite songs together! (Magan = La Roux’s Bulletproof & Estelle = Miley Cyrus’ Party in the USA)

Jasmine Rose - I do not karaoke. You probably couldn’t pay me to get up and sing in front of people, but I’ll sing along to anything from He Is We to Mumford and Sons to Lady Sovereign on my iPod when no one else is around 😛

September 28, 2012 - 7:10 pm

Kristen - I’ve never done “real” karaoke, but I have High School Musical & Disney SingIt for the Playstation. So. Much. Fun.

Lauren Ellice - Super excited about this movie! It just looks like a fun, feel good movie 🙂

I’m pretty sure people would run screaming if I ever sang karaoke, buuut, if I did, it would probably be a cheesy boy band song from the 90s. Or any song that’s in the Rock of Ages movie. Those songs are such fun!

Deserae McG - I really want to see this movie. Hearing that you guys liked it only adds to my excitement for its release. 🙂

Thanks so much for reviewing the film! And thank you, Universal, for the giveaway!

Wishing y’all well,
Deserae

Looking forward to the movie!

September 25, 2012 - 4:51 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I LOVE this question! Karaoke and I don’t often get along, but I can name you the top three songs I would do – Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Wonderwall & Part of Your World, mwahaha. Of course, any Backstreet Boys, NSYNC or Spice Girls song would work just as well…

Also, I can’t wait to watch this movie!
