Sweet Summertime Reads: Our Favorite Places to Escape With Books

summertime books for people to read

Howdy, y’all! We are so excited to be kicking off Sweet Summertime Reads with Ginger at GReads and Tara at Fiction Folio. You can read Ginger’s intro post here (where you can also enter her giveaway for TWO Jennifer Echols books!). In a nutshell, we’re going to be sharing our favorite summer books, songs, places, summer reviews, and doing a few giveaways on our blogs for the next few weeks! Some of our posts won’t be summer-related and there will be reviews as usual, but make sure you cycle between our three blogs for lots of great things to come.

To kick off Sweet Summertime Reads, we wanted to share our favorite summer reading locations with you guys.

Where do you guys plan to spend the next few sunny months with your books?

My husband and I purchased a house about a year and a half ago. Our neighborhood has a pool, but I wasn’t really one for having to worry about putting on a swimsuit (and worrying how I looked in it), lathering myself in sunscreen (because I am pasty and prone to sunburn), and then having to take a shower when I got back in.

EXCEPT – that all changed for me when I realized how relaxing it could be…

We went to our pool for the very first time (ever) a week ago and when I got back home, I’d gotten a lite sunburn tan, lost myself in my book, and the sounds of the water crashing in the kiddie pool kind of made me feel like I was at a beach. Well…I pretended I was on a remote, secluded beach somewhere far, far away from Texas. I was super relaxed and thought, “I NEED MORE OF THIS IN MY LIFE.”

Here’s the view from our little cabana at the pool. Photo taken with Instagram on my iPhone.places to read, reading by the pool

If you need me while I’m not working this summer, you can find me there!

Mine is far less exciting. My husband and I have lived in our house for about 3 years, and are actually in the process of selling it. When we bought it, it was a foreclosure and a total mess. But over the time we’ve been here, we’ve made a lot of improvements and that scary smelly place we bought turned into a charming home. (Now someone please buy it!)

Anyway, after finally cleaning off a deck thick with grossness from being ignored, we bought some super fun Adirondack chairs that I like to call Kermit chairs because of their color and we BBQ and read out there when the weather is nice. It’s a nice alternative when we can’t get to the beach (which is pretty close too).

So here’s a small peek into my backyard. I hope to be hanging out there at some point this weekend!

I just realized my toenails are painted the same color as our Kermit chairs…

Hope you all have a great Saturday & get to hang out in your favorite reading spots!

Aww… I love this post! My favourite summer reading spot is definitely our patio. We live in a condo with a great outdoor area and, since it rains the majority of the year, we have a very short window of time to enjoy sitting outside. I spent last weekend getting the patio all cleaned up, and now hoping that we’ll have a good stretch of time to enjoy it! Although I need to find some Adirondack chairs to add; there is seriously no type of chair that is more comfortable!!

LOVE the Kermit chairs! and that pool area looks lovely! Unfortunately, I can’t stand the heat and bugs around here, lol! The humidity can be so wicked! I will sit on my deck in the early morning hours, but once that sun starts to peek, I’m in the a/c right next to the window in my cushy rocking chair from Ikea, lol 😉

I love seeing where you both read! My community pool is super fancy but I don’t really go with it because you need an ID and the ID machine is broken every time I try to get one, haha. I love that you both read outside, I need to do that more often. Thanks for sharing.

Okay, my neighborhood pool looks like you’ll get a disease if you get in the water. So I am so freakin’ jealous over here.

Seriously, you guys have great reading spots!

Our new neighborhood has a pool (insert celebration here!) and today was our first day laying out. I got a sunburn (no surprise there), but it was SO worth it to get some reading in with the sun shining and sound of kids playing. Loved it!

Also, I almost got the Kermit-colored chairs but ended up going with brown at the last minute. Still love your color though!

I am SUPER envious of your pool and backyard space! One of the drawbacks of living in the city I suppose… when can I come visit both of you? 😉

  7. Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books says:

M: That pool looks totally fabulous. I would totally hang out there all the time if I could, and just bring along a book and some snacks!

E: Backyard BBQs or meals are always fun for me. And someday, when I own a house, I’d love to have a place with a feel similar to yours – relaxing and homey.
