Becky LeJeune - Oh, I love this post! Lori over at Pure Imagination linked today, so I’m just seeing it.

To your pack I’d add my beanbag warmer – I don’t know what to call it. There is a company that makes a heating wrap, but I prefer my microwaveable (reusable and doesn’t have to stick to my skin!) one for cramps. Ugh. The worst time of the month!

Also, maybe a gift certificate for a night out for hubs when it gets its worst. I get more than a little grumpy.

Chloe @ YA Booklover Blog - This post is so true!! My staples are chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate. Oh, and The Notebook for sure. Plus lots of Advil. I’ve never tried Midol but if it can beat my Advil Liquid gels then I’m all for it! Anything fast acting ๐Ÿ˜›

Liz (Along for the Read) - haha I always feel like such a cliche when I buy pads/tampons and chocolate in the same trip to the drugstore, but hey it’s a cliche for a reason. Those are some solid book choices for cuddling up and not moving an inch.

Kelly — I hate being in work clothes too, but USUALLY I look a little less frumpy. I still try to look cute in my loungey clothes. Period week? I’m a disaster. And you’re right — I am such a big emotional mess too. I cry at absolutely everything, but I also get angry, angry too. Irrationally so. ๐Ÿ™ And yes to the big greasy burger. YUM YUM.

Jasmine Rose - This is one reason I’m glad I only have one every three months. I used to have terrible stomach pains so I went to the doctor and they’re all “here, try this three month birth control” and I’m all “only 4 periods a year? Heck freaking yes!” And it worked and I only have to deal with it once a month and it’s basically the bomb.They even gave me a bottle of 800mg ibuprofin so when I DO have the hellacious cramps they’re more bearable.

Also, you’re the best for actually writing about this.

Elissa - I have a routine too. A few days before, I get this terrible urge for red meat. I have to have a hamburger and fries. The rest of the month, I don’t really care, but like three days before it starts, I NEED a burger (usually from PTerry’s or Sandy’s, not a gross McD’s or anything). I need tons of salt, when the rest of the month I am very anti-salt. Then chocolate, hot tea, Jane Austen mini-series adaptations, cookies with chocolate, brownies, and other chocolate. Yup.

VeganYANerds - LOVE this post, M! I used to try and brave it out with no pain relief but these days I allow myself some on day 1. Thanks for the link to foods you should avoid, I’m already sans meat/dairy/caffeine so I am set!
I do crave more sugar/salt/carbs though. And I love to put on Clueless, it’s such a feel good movie. And I have a comfy pair of pants and my heatable rice bag and then I am set!

Kelly - It’s pretty rare I get cramps, but man am I a big baby when I do!

I can totally relate to putting on your comfies: the second I’m home from work, my sweats and hoody are on and I am under the blankets on the couch.

I find that ALL I want to listen to is super sad music. I’ll be on my way to work, and a sad song will come on the radio and I’ll show up to work all blotchy because I was crying.

The thing your kit is missing is CHOCOLATE. It’s all I want. That, and a big greasy cheeseburger.

And I can be such a GRUMP. You better not look at me the wrong way, or I might get angry. Or cry. Or get angry and then cry. Those weeks are rare, but they are emotional when they happen!

Anne - I head to CVS for tampons and a dark chocolate bar with sea salt and nuts (for some reason, this one particular CVS location is the only place I can find this candy bar.) If he’s around, I ask my husband to buy me a Mexican Coke or Sprite from the gas station down the block. Then I pretty much stay in bed and question why this biological process exists.

Tara - I give this post a big fat ginormous THUMBS UP. Girls totally got the crap end of the stick when it comes to what we have to deal with every month and we deserve a little bit of TLC! Chocolate is my go-to snack and I have to read emo/sad/depressing books because I just want to have the same feels as the characters in the story. Once I snap out of it, then I’m back to contemp, hist fic, and cheesy romances. And PS–I rock those old lady moccasins 24/7 when I’m at home haha!

SPRITE! That’s my drink too! Along with Vienna Fingers and m&m’s ๐Ÿ™‚ And I find that I always dive into a dystopian during this time – sad to say, but I guess I’m looking for characters that are worse off than me so I can feel better about myself, lol!

Nikki — Thanks so much for liking the post. Let’s just say I was in the midst of pissydom when I began writing this post. I was so irritated that I have to go through this every. single. month and just needed an outlet to vent! I’m all about the heating pads. They’re definitely my BFF for a few days. I’m not sure I’ve taken to reading violent books during my period, but I’m so going to try this! ๐Ÿ™‚
Charlotte — I’ve never ever heard of this ginger concoction before. I’m so going to try this TOO. Anything that helps I’m all SIGN ME UP PLEASE. So glad you’re team sour punch, but I do agree, the sugar can be such a mess! I will say the Essie top coat isn’t the fastest drying. Since I wrote this post, I’ve converted to Julep’s Freedom Top Coat which completely dries in FIVE MINUTES. It’s heavenly.
Hemborgwife — You’re so right. It’s like a faux paus to talk about periods and anything girly. Why do we have to stay quiet about it? Sure it’s gross and not the funnest subject, but I sure do like to complain about it and wish my husband could experience cramps for just one day. That chocolate sounds divine, and I’m not even the biggest chocolate fan. Mmmm….
Ginger! — I do love to get manicures too. LOVE THEM. You and I should trade services — I’m terrible at shaping my nails, but am much better at painting. I’ve TOTALLY been craving a good romance too. I need to see if this is a PMS-related thing. Bahah! Fried rice… mmmm … I’m kind of hungry for that right now…
Nancy — I do fully believe emotional books help. It helps me get out all my frustrations and then I’m not taking everything out on my husband. I’m sure he appreciates this. Bahah
Lori — Steel Magnolias! That’s a great PMS movie to add to the collection! I haven’t seen that in ages! And yes, please, please do make a pregnancy survival kit. I’d love to see what you would include. Aside from water and tons of pillows. ๐Ÿ™‚
Jessie Marie — I AM ALL ABOUT THE GREY’S ANATOMY. Holy cow that show can make me cry like none other. I’m all about the Grey’s during this time! And yes! I definitely wear Dustyn’s big ol’ baggy shirts he still has from high school. They’re the most comfy and nothing is constricting. And you know — now that you mention it — any time I have had a client meeting, I am much more meticulous about my make-up during that week, too! ๐Ÿ™‚
Natalie — yes, girl! It’s one bad, unhealthy cycle. No pun intended. I’m full of self-loathing and need to get out all my angst via movies and books because SOMETHING has to make me feel better, right?

Alexa Y. - I totally hear you lady! When it’s my time of the month, I almost always want to curl up in pain and just sob. Plus, I feel extraordinarily lazy, frumpy and just harassed. You’ve named quite a few of my favorite things for comfort – candy, books and painkillers. It may be odd, but I’ve also found that drinking beer actually makes me feel better too!

I can totally relate. I get horrible cramps and feel totally frumpy and bleh. Hello, comfiest and baggiest clothes! As for snacks, I go for chocolate, preferably with some peanut butter. Reese’s are not safe in my presence for 5 days out of every month. I also really like meat. Bacon cheeseburgers? Yes, PLEASE.

I vary on what I like to read, but it has to be totally captivating and able to keep my mind focused on it while I wait for the IBUprofin to fully kick in. I always want something intensely romantic, but sometimes I want something that will make me cry happy tears. Sometimes I want something that will make me cry sad tears. Either way, crying is a theme, LOL. But I usually want laughs along with the happy crying.

For me, the pain sometimes gets so bad that I find myself in bed, shades drawn, all balled up and under the covers with nothing but a heating pad and glass of water. It sucks but at least I can prepare because several days beforehand I get all teary and weepy and all unlike my usual self. And I crave chocolate despite my general dislike for the stuff. I’ve come to the natural conclusion that between the pain and chocolate cravings, my body really really hates me. As for bookish tastes…. usually something with a lot of violence (probably a method of me projecting my own agony).

Charlotte @ Gypsy Reviews - For me, I have some of the worst cramps ever so it’s a total nightmare but I always drink a concoction which is basically ginger soaked in hot water and with brown sugar so it takes like liquidified gingerbread haha and it helps ease the pain because ginger really helps with cramps, gross though I know haha, I would never eat ginger. But yum sour punch! I love those kind of sweets, they’re the best! But I just hate it when the sugar drops all over you, such a mess! Yay for nail polish ๐Ÿ˜€ Essie is fantastic, I love their colours. How quick does the top coat dry off? I use China Glaze which takes ages ๐Ÿ™

When I am on my period I want Dr. Pepper from a can and Marabou Daim Chocolate, I think you can only get that in Europe sadly, and want to watch things like Sleepless in Seattle!

Ginger @ GReads! - Oh my goodness, I adore this post! I love it when y’all get personal ๐Ÿ˜€ My Survival Kit would look very similar, except swap out the nail polish (I’m OCD about my polish & can never get it even, so I just leave that to the professionals lol) and insert my nail filer & such. I can keep myself feeling feminine without the color, ha. Those books are excellent go-to’s. Lately when I’m PMSing I love a good romance – especially of the adult kind, haha. My sweat pants, baggy tshirts and slippers are the usual attire as well – and heck yes to take out! Mmm Chinese fried rice ๐Ÿ™‚ oh and don’t forget the Phillip Phillips on constant repeat!

Jessie Marie - Oh goodness – this is so me. Every month, I do the exact. same. thing. I’m usually wearing my boyfriend’s clothes – he has a hoodie that I swear is meant for knees-to-chest time. I may dress like a bum, but to feel girly and not add to the self-loathing, my makeup is the picture of perfection (plus, I have to hide the tell-tale breakouts). There are at least two or three Reese’s peanut butter cups in my freezer and a big bottle of Advil close by (because I don’t buy Midol to avoid the world announcements). My bookish tastes get angsty and emotional and full of MC’s with an axe to grind. And a Grey’s Anatomy marathon is definitely in order. Or Sex and the City. How appropriate.

So, yeah, this is a little personal, but kind of fun to realize the patterns in life and what they coincide with. ; )
