Themed Gift Pack: Also Known As by Robin Benway

Happy Book Release Day to Robin Benway for Also Known As! I reviewed this book a few weeks ago, and thought it was an absolute joy from the setting (New York City!) to the supporting characters (hilarious) and a sweet romance (yet kind of forbidden). Maggie is a world-renowned safe cracker in a family of spies, part […]

elena - I LOVE this feature!! The necklace is adorbs and I wouldn’t say no to a Starbucks gift card.

February 26, 2013 - 10:47 am

Kristin - Ever since I read Sarah Dessen’s Lock and Key, I’ve wanted a key style necklace on a long chain. I found a pretty cool one made from found objects at a steampunk jewelry store in Wilmington, NC, but it just has keys, no lock. I LOVE this one from Fossil (*hint to the husband!!). Thanks for sharing!

February 26, 2013 - 9:25 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Cute! Cute! Cute! I haven’t read this book yet, but I am loving the theme pack you picked to go along with it.

February 26, 2013 - 9:08 am

Lena @ Addicted 2 Novels - LOVE the Anne Taintor journal. It’s a dilemma I go through every morning. 😛

Top 10 Tuesday: Best Families in Contemporary YA - […] 2. Also Known As by Robin Benway: A family of spies? Totally a different upbringing than I’m used to. (You are shocked, I know.) Maggie’s parents had a lot of faith in their daughter to go on a solo mission. (Not like they could have done it, but still.) I think the mom and dad were funny, sweet, protective + they formed quite a tight family unit because of their spy talents and their lifestyle. Definitely a highlight of the book. (My review.) […]

February 10, 2013 - 11:16 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I hate this cover so much, so I haven’t really been interested in reading. But now you’ve got me intrigued! I adored Alias when it was on TV so I still have soft spot for stories about spies.

February 10, 2013 - 7:20 am

Sapir - I LOVED Audrey, Wait! and I can’t wait to read this book (:
New York City is one of my favorite book settings. I always like reading about the urban life there since I’m a small town girl.
Definitely going to pick this up!
Great review.

Sapir @ Diary of a Wimpy Teen Girl

February 8, 2013 - 6:48 am

Lori - Okay, I’m definitely intrigued. :) I looooved Audrey, Wait! but I didn’t care much for April, May and June. So I’ve been on the fence about this one. Now I want to read it NOW! :)

February 7, 2013 - 6:39 pm

Sara (of the Page Sage) - Robin Benway is one of my favorite authors, so I absolutely can’t wait for this book! It sounds so fun- I love spy stories and humor is always a plus. (:

February 7, 2013 - 4:23 pm

Alexa Y. - Ditto on your feelings about this book. I absolutely adored Angelo and Roux – they were probably my favorite parts of the book, apart from the fact that it’s set in NYC!

February 7, 2013 - 5:43 am

Maggie @ Young Adult Anonymous - The Incredibles? Dirty Dancing? I’m in! This sounds like so much fun, and I love the main character’s name. :)

February 6, 2013 - 11:01 pm

elena - I LIKE THIS REVIEW A LOT. I love that you said they reminded you of The Incredibles, so spot on and makes me like the book even more. CHERRY ON TOP FOR THE ICE CREAM DATE. xo

February 6, 2013 - 4:22 pm

Renae @ Respiring Thoughts - Oh Estelle, I love all the comparisons you’re making to films in this review. The Incredibles, Miss Congeniality, etc. This book definitely sounds sun and unique, and I’m really excited to meet Maggie and the other characters, who sound fabulous!

February 6, 2013 - 3:07 pm

VeganYANerds - This sounds so much fun, I didn’t know it would be so funny – can’t wait to read this and it reminds me that I need to read Audrey, Wait! like now!

February 6, 2013 - 11:46 am

kit - This sounds like a great read – I haven’t read any of Benway’s books, but I’ve seen a couple of different ones around lately, all with great reviews. The mixture of spies and high school (and the whole fish out of water thing) seems like the kind of thing I would like, so I’ll be keeping this book on my radar! Great review.

February 6, 2013 - 11:01 am

Cynthia - From reading the synopsis and looking at the cover this wouldn’t be a book I would pick up.. I know shame on me but I always judge books by the covers. Haven’t learned my lesson yet.. but now after reading your review I’m definitely adding it to my list and looking forward to it. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun and like something I would definitely enjoy. I love that the mc gets to experience lots of first. Great review Estelle! =)

February 6, 2013 - 10:57 am

Taylor @ Reading is the Thing - I love spy books, and I love Robin Benway, so I guess this is a good fit for me! And whoa, a SUPPORTIVE family? In YA? What??? Another super awesome aspect.

February 6, 2013 - 9:19 am

Bookworm1858 - I just read this but am blanking on the Dirty Dancing reference-help a girl out?

I also agree about the pacing, which was a bit slow until the ending when everything just sped up as Maggie took us on quite the run!
