TTT: Our New Favorite Must-Read Authors

Welcome back for a new Top Ten Tuesday post! Today, the awesome ladies at The Broke and the Bookish are asking which authors were new-to-us this year. That doesn’t have to be limited to newly published authors, but it could be someone we’ve had on our radar for a long while and finally picked up their […]

December 29, 2013 - 1:25 am

Bookworm1858 - Rainbow Rowell is definitely my pick for favorite-loved getting to read three books by her this year and am hoping for more to come in 2014!

December 20, 2013 - 7:50 pm

Alexa Y. - It makes me so happy to see that I’ve actually read a lot of the authors you guys picked out this year! A particular favorite is Tamara Ireland Stone, who has written two books that I really liked. As for authors I haven’t read who are on your list, I definitely want to read OCD Love Story by Corey Ann Haydu because I really think I’m going to like it a lot!

December 17, 2013 - 4:44 pm

Lisa Schensted - I love the variety here! I’ll have to add more to my TBR, it seems!

December 17, 2013 - 2:52 pm

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Seriously, ladies. You’re killing me. Because pretty much everything on your list that I haven’t read yet, I need to! Aw hell, I know I can always go to you for good book recs! Fantastic list, as always!

December 17, 2013 - 1:40 pm

Sara at WhatANerdGIrlSays - I definitely agree on Andrew Smith. Winger blew me away, it was my fave book of the year, tied with Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Both amazing novels 🙂 I met Elana K Arnold this year, and now I really want to read her books!

December 17, 2013 - 12:02 pm

Allison L - April gave me her ARC of Openly Straight, and I can’t wait to read it. Also, I feel like I really have to check out This Song Will Save Your Life sometime soon because I’ve heard so many good things about it.

December 17, 2013 - 11:43 am

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - I have lots of the same picks on my list (or people that easily could have been on my list). I’m so happy Estelle is on the Elana K. Arnold bandwagon now. All that’s left is reading her other two books!

December 17, 2013 - 11:35 am

Anna - Love your list, ladies! I definitely need to get on the Winger bandwagon — and Nantucket Blue too!

December 17, 2013 - 10:28 am

Meg - Going to have to add a ton of these to my wishlist for 2014! I’m particularly loving the sound of Starstruck.

December 17, 2013 - 9:10 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Ohh great list, ladies! I’m not sure how I managed to do this, but I forgot Amy Spalding on mine. Oops! I’m hoping to get to Winger next year.

December 17, 2013 - 1:07 am

Lucy - We have Amy Spalding and Bill Konigsberg in common, and how could I have forgotten Leila Sales! I just picked up Time Between Us so I’m happy to see it on your list. I’m looking forward to reading How to Love too. Great lists, ladies!

December 17, 2013 - 12:51 am

Allison @ The Allure of Books - I need to drop everything and get my hands on a copy of Winger. Everyone that has read it seems absolutely devoted to it! I MUST SEE WHAT I AM MISSING.

December 17, 2013 - 12:10 am

alice-jane - I haven’t read How to Love and any of Rainbow Rowell’s novels but hopefully I do by the end of the year since they all look really good! If I can’t hopefully I’ll get to read them sometime next year. New Year’s resolution planning, right?

I’m looking forward to Jenny Han’s release next year the most.

Sweet Summertime Reads: The Yearbook

Welcome back for another Sweet Summertime Reads post. As summer winds down, stores fill up with huge school supplies displays that make us yearn for the days we’d be doing our school shopping and prepping for our first days of school. So this week, Ginger, Tara, and the two of us are focusing on going […]

September 22, 2013 - 1:29 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - THIS POST IS EVERYTHING AWESOME! I loved your comments on the different aspects of going back to school, and I’m in love with your superlatives and graphics! Y’all are always coming up with such great new ideas and posts! Love that about your blog :0

August 28, 2013 - 11:18 am

Alexa Y. - THIS POST IS MADE OF WIN. I’m sorely tempted to leave my comment at that, but seriously, you girls just NAILED IT. I love your choices for your back to school reading selections, and the categories you filed them under! Such spot on recommendations. Gotta definitely check out the ones I haven’t yet read!

August 15, 2013 - 4:12 pm

katy - Band Geek Love sounds so great! I wasn’t in Band but I was the only one in my group of friends who wasn’t, so I felt like I was. I knew all the drama and sat with the band during their quarter off during football games and the band directors knew me. Queen of Kentucky and Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe sound cute and fun!

August 15, 2013 - 11:34 am

Candice @ The Grown-Up YA - Fun post! I loved when it was time to go back to school. There was always something so exciting and fresh about it, despite the fact that I’d been there for a month already with band camp! I never thought about all the new friends I’d make, but rather all the old friends I’d get to see again. And shopping… whoa I LOVED it! Even though I really was a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal in high school, buying new clothes and pens was my favorite!

August 15, 2013 - 1:02 am

Sweet Summertime Reads: It’s Back to School Time! | Fiction Folio - […] some books that take place during the school year and Magan & Estelle featured some of their favorite books about going back to school. Today, I’m going to share some books I think will either help you get back into that school […]

August 13, 2013 - 11:01 pm

Lucy @ The Reading Date - Hey, I was a band geek too! I played the flute in marching band in hs. Now I really need to read Band Geek Love.
Your post is very timely – we’re getting ready for back to school shopping this week.
Love your back to school book choices. Reece Malcolm is a fave, and I’m eager to check out Winger too. Good stuff as always!

August 13, 2013 - 8:22 pm

Tara @ Hobbitsies - You guys always have the prettiest freaking posts. Can you do all the graphics for my blog too? HAHA.

Anyway, I saw Winger at the bookstore today and was SO CLOSE to buying it. Man, now I want to go back to it. A million times yes to Queen of Kentucky and Going Vintage – loved both of those. Somehow I haven’t read the rest of the books on this post, but I need to! Moving some of these up on my TBR list 🙂

August 13, 2013 - 7:26 pm

Rose @ The Bedtime Bookworm - I feel like I should read more YA contemporary, and I already thought I read quite a bit of it. I haven’t read any of these books! I have a few of them on my TBR list.

I can definitely relate to what Estelle wrote about back to school shopping – I did all of my clothes shopping with my mum (mostly because she’d buy me shoes. That’s a good reason, right??). The only problem was that my mum would conveniently forget that we were there to buy clothes for me, not her! She’d usually end up with a pile for herself double the size of my pile, though we were both expert sales shoppers!

August 13, 2013 - 10:02 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I like how we both chose Reece Malcolm List for a ‘back to school’ pick 🙂 hehe. Such a great book! This was a fun post ladies. I’ve heard a lot about Dairy Queen.. and anything related to FNL is a definite win for me!

Estelle + Magan: A Joint Shelve It from Texas!

These last few days, we’ve been together, reunited in Texas. Holy crap, you guys! It’s been amazing. But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Estelle left yesterday afternoon to head back to NYC and Magan spent the remainder of the day crying. Every time we see each other, we […]

August 11, 2013 - 11:32 am

Alexa Y. - GIRLS! It makes me so very happy that you are (well, were now, considering I’m commenting late) together in Texas. I loved the reunion, and that I could see you and hear you both on my computer. Miss you girls! Hope you had a FABULOUS time together.

August 8, 2013 - 5:01 pm

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - Stopping by really quick to say that I absolutely loved watching this the other night. I felt like I was watching TV or something with my Summer Shandy (I never watch TV). I was all comfy with my drink and watching my pals and I was smiling and text-bombing poor E. It was a good time for me. I loved it. I’ll be back later for a real comment-bomb, I just wanted to say high again and I loved seeing you two on the same screen again. You both are so lovely and I love hearing your voices at the same time. So much fun! I made Mike stop listening to youtube and watch for a second and he was all WHAT!? – he just didn’t really GET IT. Haha, men. xo

August 7, 2013 - 3:49 pm

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Awwwwww I know how you feel! I cried at the airport after BEA just leaving all my blogging friends (and Alyssa in particular!!) and it’s just so hard to say goodbye to your close friend not knowing when you’ll reunite again! But I’m so glad you guys got to spend some great time together and I love seeing the two of you in one video! Very fun 🙂
xoxo

August 7, 2013 - 11:44 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Aww — you two are SO adorable!!! I love seeing videos of the two of you together :). I’m a recent Levithan fan, but I’m going to check out the one you recommended, Estelle. After Fingerprints, I trust your recommendations sooooo much!!!

August 7, 2013 - 10:26 am

Hazel - It’s so nice to see the two of you together in a vid!!! Magan, I’m so happy to hear you loved the Shatter Me series. It’s one of my fave dystopians. :’) And your foster daughter sounds really adorable!!!! Estelle, I love the books you mentioned. I’m so excited to get to read them. I’m quite a fan of Levithan myself and I really do suggest you read Everyday already! Great post, you guys!! <3

Sweet Summertime Reads: The Nautical and The Sexy

Nothing says summer like SHOPPING. Especially when you are us. So today we decided to pair both reading and shopping for a fun little feature. This year, better than most, we have kind of done a nice job of making sure we read the books the other can’t stop raving about. (Yes, we are patting […]

Alexa Y. - You guys are making it VERY difficult indeed for me to keep my shopping ban! The items in this post – the skirts, bikini + dress – are SUPER cute. And I’m excited to read both these books!

June 26, 2013 - 5:37 am

VeganYANerds - Loving the skirts and the bikini! Estelle – so glad you got Winger!

June 25, 2013 - 7:07 pm

Cee @ The Novel Hermit - Eek! Such fabulous choices. I am in love with the red skirt.

You convinced me to read “Winger.” 😀

June 25, 2013 - 12:47 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - Ahh, this is such an adorable feature! I love how you two are focusing on reading books that the other loved- so cute! The outfits you two chose are so adorable as well. I’m loving the read and blue look, Estelle, and Magan, that cover-up’s color is SO cute. Probably my favorite shade of blue (if you couldn’t tell from my blog, haha). 😉 Lovely picks, you two! <3

-Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life

June 25, 2013 - 11:17 am

Candice @ The Grown-Up YA - I WANT THOSE SKIRTS!!! They would look so good for my work wardrobe. 🙂

Also… I’m gonna go with Brittany. No way the bikini would work for me. The cover up though? Yes please! Love that color!

June 25, 2013 - 11:01 am

Tara - Those skirts are adorbs! And boy do I wish I had the body to pull off that bathing suit…

June 25, 2013 - 11:00 am

Rachel - If I didn’t love shopping so much I’d hire you two to shop for me. First off, I love what you chose for Winger, Estelle. I don’t know anything about the book but it does fit well with the cover! And also 90% of my clothing is either red, white, or blue, so I think your choices are perfect. Magan, your choices for Dangerous Girls are perfect as well. I haven’t read it yet either (but I want too!), but I definitely pictured the same kind of clothing. That swimsuit is SO CUTE. I don’t know if I’d ever actually wear a white bikini (I prefer black or pink), but I do like to admire them from afar.

June 25, 2013 - 10:59 am

Jamie - I want to read both of these so bad!! Perfect pairings, too!

June 25, 2013 - 9:47 am

Sharon @ The Book Barbies - These are such cute choices! That nautical skirt is ADORABLE. And I love that swimsuit! Not at all practical – it’d be down around my waste in no time if I actually got in the water, LOL – but very pretty nonetheless.

June 25, 2013 - 9:37 am

Cassie - OMFG. STOP IT JUST STOP. This is so creative and adorable and I effing LOVE IT.

June 25, 2013 - 9:32 am

Ginger @ GReads! - This is so cute! Love this post idea 🙂 I really, really love skirts in the summertime. They are definitely a part of my wardrobe right now. I wish I had a bikini body, haha so it’s full body swimsuits for me! Ha!

June 25, 2013 - 9:27 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Those nautical skirts are CUTE. Love them.
Uhh, darn, no model body included? haha. Yeah, I can’t pull off a bikini like that but I love the cover up! 🙂

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - I just added the Tom Leveen book that Magan has listed to my library wishlist. WOOHOO! Also, E, I just finished the Lauren Graham book yesterday.

June 26, 2013 - 5:20 pm

Alexa Y. - What great picks! I really do agree with a lot of the ones you guys have chosen, particularly Golden, which I ADORED. I have yet to read a few of these titles, but I’m eagerly looking forward to them – particularly Criminal, Dangerous Girls and Starstruck.

June 26, 2013 - 2:28 pm

Daisy @ The Broke and the Bookish and Between the Pages - YAY for Golden!! So much love for that book! And I’m very excited to see I’ve Got Your Number on Magan’s list, I got a copy last week 🙂
And Estelle: I’m dying to read Nantucket Blue, I’m glad you liked it so much!!

June 26, 2013 - 10:59 am

molly @ wrapped up in books - I’m going to have to read DANGEROUS GIRLS! The synopsis gave me lukewarm feelings, but with such a strong endorsement I’ll give it a shot! I love seeing CRIMINAL get some love — what a fantastic book! FINGERPRINTS OF YOU is also a book I think is underrated so I’m glad you enjoyed it. I need to read GOLDEN soon. I just might have a Jessi Kirby marathon!

June 26, 2013 - 2:20 am

Lucy @ The Reading Date - You both have fantastic taste in books! Winger, Someday Maybe and Dangerous Girls are a few I can’t wait to read. Loved Golden, E&P and manicpixiedreamgirl. Hope the rest of the year is just as amazing for you!

June 25, 2013 - 4:54 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Oh hi. Yeah. I haven’t read any of your top books. SADS! But I want to! They’re on my list! I PROMISE!! 😀

June 25, 2013 - 2:54 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Great lists, ladies! I’ve read or want to read all of these. I was very pleasantly surprised by Criminal and Someday, Someday Maybe. And I think I’ve Got Your Number is one of Sophie Kinsella’s best (I agree she’s very hit or miss).

My TTT

June 25, 2013 - 2:49 pm

Jen @ Pop! Goes The Reader - Wow, I can’t imagine only being able to choose five books – I had enough trouble narrowing my list down to only ten! Hehe. I was really excited to see so many books on my own TBR list on your TTT lists this week. I own Nantucket Blue, Golden, Fingerprints Of You and Eleanor & Park and have yet to read any of them, but their inclusion on your list made me all the more excited to read them now 🙂 The fact that they’ve appeared on a number of TTT lists this week is comforting.

June 25, 2013 - 2:20 pm

Anna - Some lovely picks, ladies! Winger’s high up on my “GAH I NEED TO READ THIS” list for sure.

June 25, 2013 - 12:23 pm

Hollie @ Music, Books and Tea - I am definitely borrowing I’ve Got Your Number when I next go to the library as it looks awesome. I’m really looking forward to reading Nantucket Blue as it seems like everyone who has read it has loved it!

June 25, 2013 - 12:07 pm

Natalie @Natflix&Books - I loved Winger and Golden. Both made my list, too. I really liked Someday, Someday, Maybe and Nantucket Blue. I’m so excited for Dangerous Girls. Great lists!
Natflix&Books’ TTT

June 25, 2013 - 11:58 am

Rachel - I’m reading three of the books Estelle listed in like the next two weeks so YAY because she/you have the best taste ever IMO. Golden was AMAZING. And obviously Nantucket Blue. I especially liked the sex scene in that one. And that’s going to sound totally awkward to anyone that hasn’t read the book, but it was handled so well which I really appreciate.

June 25, 2013 - 11:51 am

Renae @ Respiring Thoughts - Nantucket Blue and Someday, Someday, Maybe were both phenomenal, as was Golden! I especially enjoyed Lauren Graham’s humor and voice in SSM.

June 25, 2013 - 11:35 am

Sash and Em - We’ve only read one book off this list – Eleanor & Park – Looks like we’ve got some good reading ahead of us 🙂

June 25, 2013 - 11:03 am

Jamie - Estelle I own all of the books except Criminal on your list so I’m excited! I started Starstruck on the beach but only got like 2 pages in because I was chasing Genevieve. I love that so many of my “must reads” for my beach bag are on your list so I know I’ll be doing some good reading!

Magan — E&P <333 I have you to thank for that one. I also LOVED Golden and really wanted to put it on my list but I split it into 2013 releases and backlisted. SIGH. Dying to read Winger because of how much you are raving about it! And I own Manicpixiedreamgirl but I haven't seen much about it so I'm glad to see it make your faves list!

June 25, 2013 - 11:02 am

Sharon @ The Book Barbies - How is it that I have read NONE of these books yet? I really need to get on that! I’ve been on the library waiting list for Someday, Someday, Maybe for entirely too long, and I’m still waiting! *sigh*

June 25, 2013 - 10:49 am

Olena - Nantucket Blue is on my list. Golden was amazing and life altering! It definitely changed my way of thinking.

June 25, 2013 - 10:43 am

Daphne - there is so much on here that i want to read, but i have to agree with magan on E&P and I’ve Got Your Number, great, fantastic books. I haven’t read any of Estelle’s books, but I think they’re all on my tbr list already 🙂

June 25, 2013 - 10:18 am

Stacy Renee @ LazyDayLiterature - I’m waiting on Nantucket Blue to get to me via mail and I plan on reading Eleanor & Park in July. It seems to be on everyone’s list.
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday

June 25, 2013 - 10:15 am

Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros - I’m so glad Golden is making everyone’s lists! I loved that one! Eleanor & Park is another popular choice this week (I need to read that one!) And I definitely want to pick up Someday Someday Maybe! Great list guys!

tabithasbookblog - I’m so behind on my 2013 releases! The only book on your guys’ list that I’ve read is Nantucket Blue! Which I enjoyed, but it didn’t make it onto my list! Hopefully I’ll be reading Golden this week!

June 25, 2013 - 9:25 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Yes! Loved E&P and Nanctucket Blue! And ESTELLE. You are killing me!

June 25, 2013 - 9:17 am

Andi - I have heard excellent things about Winger. I’m going to have to make sure I read that.

Great list!

My TTT List

June 25, 2013 - 8:49 am

Bookworm1858 - I really dislike Becky in the Shopaholic series too-my sister loves them but I find her just too annoying. Thankfully I tend to like her standalones like I’ve Got Your Number a lot. Eleanor & Park would definitely be on my list for this year but I will need to spend some time thinking about what else should be there.

June 25, 2013 - 8:33 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I’ve only read 1 book from E’s picks & 2 books from M’s picks. I always trust your judgement, so I guess it’s time I add a few of these to my forever growing TBR list.

M – I want to read all your picks!

Lena @ Addicted 2 Novels - So many good books being released in May. So many beach reads, so little time!

May 4, 2013 - 9:50 pm

Rachel - Sometimes I honestly wish I could pause all these new releases so I can catch up and be ready for them. I want to read almost every May release, excluding September Girls because I will never put myself through the torture that is that book. I’ve already read/own a lot of these, but I really can’t wait for Five Summers to come out. That totally looks like a me book.

May 4, 2013 - 5:49 pm

candy - I never really paid much attention to mentions of The Rules for Disappearing bc for a teen mom’s perspective it sounds like a book about a teen running away, which can be a scary thought for a mom.But now that I read the Description here,I want to read it.I also love this idea of the Author being from Louisiana like me.Thanks for posting about theses books.I also want to read Golden and Parallel.

May 3, 2013 - 5:07 pm

Annie - Oooh, May seems like an amazing month! I’m definitely going to grab Winger as soon as it comes out! Marked it on my calendar! 🙂

May 3, 2013 - 1:37 pm

Leticia (@osoordinary) - Reboot!Reboot!Reboot! Can’t wait to read it! Also, I won an ARC of Parallel so I’m excited to read that! It’ll be my first parallel universes book and I’m newly interested, after having just completed the Fringe TV series! = )

May 3, 2013 - 11:45 am

Alexa Y. - Oh Lord, there goes all my cash! (Just kidding.) (Not really.) Seriously, there’s a ton of good stuff on here! My favorite, without a doubt, is Golden because I loved that book so.

May 3, 2013 - 10:36 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Holy almost-summer, Batman is right!! My wallet is soooo suffering this month, that’s for sure. I’ve already read a few but there are sooo many more I can’t wait to read! 🙂

May 3, 2013 - 8:51 am

Bookworm1858 - So many good titles-I want to read almost all of these and the only ones I’ve picked up so far are Reboot, The Rules for Disappearing, and The Book of Broken Hearts. I can’t wait to get these other ones!

May 3, 2013 - 6:39 am

Hannah @ Matter Loved Dust - Some of these have different UK release dates so I picked up ‘Invisibility’ yesterday which I’m excited to start. Also really looking forward to ‘The Originals’ and ‘Winger’!
