Between You & Me Themed Gift Pack

If you have visited Rather Be Reading within the past six months, more than likely you’ve heard me raving about Marisa Calin’s Between You & Me. This was an ARC that Magan sent to me pretty randomly. I reminded myself to start it in August, and never in my wildest dreams did I think this […]

Jen - You bloggers are going to kill me with all your gift recommendations. Sure, it’s Christmas time and I should be buying for other people. But also, I kind of want everything on this list.

Asheley (@BookwormAsheley) - WOW. What a review. I have to admit that I wasn’t very interested in this one at all because I didn’t like the cover. But you make a really great case for a book that sounds so different and thought-provoking. PLUS I can tell how much you really enjoyed it, and that is such a huge thing for me when I decide what to read too – how much other people REALLY got from a book. Excellent, good, fantastic review. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

The Bumble Girl - Great review! I haven’t heard of this book yet, and it seems quite unique and interesting! It’s been a really long time since I’ve read a screenplay, or anything close to one. I’ll definitely add this to my list too! Thanks 🙂

Jen R - I was really hesitant about this one because of the screenplay style. That kind of stuff tends to distract me and therefore drive me nuts. I didn’t know that the book also plays with the reader’s assumptions about gender, etc. That’s interesting! Now that I’ve read your review, I’ll definitely try this one out.

Lori - I haven’t heard much about this book, but wow! It’s sounds really great. I love when an author takes a chance with a unique writing style. I’m anxious to learn more about You and see what I think. Great review!

July 25, 2012 - 5:35 pm

VeganYANerds - This is such a fantastic review of what sounds like an amazing book! I really like that it’s written as a screen play and it’s so intriguing that we don’t know who You really is. And I’m impressed that you went back and re-read, another sign that this is a really, really good book!

Also, you’re so right about the assumptions we make about people based on their clothing/mannerisms. I really can’t wait to read this, Estelle!

July 25, 2012 - 12:17 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I totally am LOVING your review E. You did a great job with it, and simply succeeded in making me want to read it all over again! Between You & Me really was fantastic. So much love for this book!

July 25, 2012 - 11:54 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Wow, what an amazing review Estelle. I know how much you enjoyed this book. I think, when done well, keeping the gender of a specific character secret can be very intriguing. However, it would also drive me insane because I feel the need to visualize my characters as I read them, haha. I have never read a book written as a screen play. After your rave reviews, this one has definitely been added to my TBR list.

Annette - This sounds really interesting. Great review. I know what you mean about the mind playing tricks. Recently I read a book and when it began I thought one of the characters was female (can’t remember the name, but you couldn’t tell from it.) After a while, I realized she was a “he” and for the rest of the book I had trouble making that switch in my brain! I hate when that happens!
