Top 10 Tuesday: Best Reads of 2014 (So Far)

I had to participate this week because it’s like an experiment. Will these 10 books still be on my list in 6 months? Will they be bumped by something else amazing? It’s hard to say and I love the mystery. (Even if I am an impatient person.) I know I am so pumped to see […]

The Time Has Come: A Chat with Carrie Arcos - […] week in my Top 10 Tuesday post, I mentioned my 5-star reads of the year so far so I’m super thrilled to have Carrie Arcos on […]

June 13, 2014 - 11:37 am

Vicky - There are a couple on here that I really want to read, such as Everything Leads To You and definitely Pointe! Also, Open Road Summer is definitely a book I want to purchase, so think I definitely will now!

June 12, 2014 - 10:33 pm

Ellice Y - THIS POST! ESTELLE! Reading this post has seriously turned a not-so-great day into a “YAY, BOOKS!” kind of day. I am SO excited about your list because it has so many titles that I haven’t read yet. I trust your (and Magan’s!) taste in books implicitly, so I’m currently adding lots of books to my shopping cart. Haha. I’ve only read 3 of these, Open Road Summer, Me Before You, and Life by Committee, and I loved them so much. I also have The Things You Kiss Goodbye on my Kindle to read very soon, so it just got bumped up to the top of the list. I brought the One and Only home from work because I saw on Goodreads that you really liked it (bahaha, that sounds creepy doesn’t it? I don’t stalk you, I promise!). I’ve read a couple of Giffin’s other books and was always disappointed, so I’m hoping this will be the one that wins me over.

This is my favorite TTT list of the week. Love it!

June 10, 2014 - 11:43 pm

Devyn - The cover of Everything Leads to You is gorgeous! Definitely adding that one (and the rest of this list) to my TBR 🙂

June 10, 2014 - 10:30 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I just got Everything Leads to You from the library today!!! I’m so excited to read it.

June 10, 2014 - 7:24 pm

Alexa S. - I have Pointe and There Will Come a Time in my pile of books to read (surprise, surprise, it’s ever growing) and I’m looking forward to them both! I’m also thrilled that you convinced me to read Life by Committee and Sorta Like a Rockstar. Plus, I loved Me Before You and Open Road Summer! Great selection of books 🙂

June 10, 2014 - 7:17 pm

tabithasbookblog - I’m really interested in Everything Leads to You! I haven’t read anything by this author before (which I’m hoping to fix soon), but I’ve never heard anything bad! And I can’t remember if Open Road Summer made it onto my list, but Lilah and Reagan’s friendship was my favorite thing about that book!

June 10, 2014 - 6:49 pm

Danielle @ Love at First Page - Ah, I haven’t read most of these, but I did really like There Will Come a Time (male pov = win). Open Road Summer has made a lot of blogger’s lists, and it makes me sad all over again how disappointed I was by it. 🙁
I will definitely be checking out these other books, though!

June 10, 2014 - 4:39 pm

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - There are so many books here I’ve been on the fence about, but I trust you, lady, and so my TBR list grows and shifts…

June 10, 2014 - 3:02 pm

Kat - Adding several of these to my TBR list! How interesting that in so many of these TTT I’m reading today, there are mostly contemporary stories!

June 10, 2014 - 2:43 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - Y’all always have such a fresh mix of books on here. My TBR grows again!

June 10, 2014 - 11:53 am

Kim @ kimberlyfaye reads - Everything Leads to You, Pointe and There Will Come a Time are on my TBR. I’m looking forward to reading them, whenever I get around to it. 🙂

My TTT.

June 10, 2014 - 11:20 am

Stefani @ Caught Read Handed - You’re right: everyone has Open Road Summer on their list, except for me. It’s on my summer TBR list and I cannot wait to read it. I’m even more excited now that I’ve seen it on so many people’s lists. I also really want to read Everything Leads to You. I’ll have to check it out soon.
Great list!
Here’s my TTT!

June 10, 2014 - 11:05 am

Monica @ A Southern Girls Bookshelf - I loved The One & Only! I love any book that showcases my state [TX]. The best book from Emily Giffin…yet!

June 10, 2014 - 10:57 am

jill - Uh-oh, I am writing a review on The One and Only – -there was very little I liked about it :/ I definitely LOVED Me Before You, though, and Everything Leads to You is on my TBR list!

June 10, 2014 - 10:37 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I, too, thought it would be interesting to look back on this list come December and see which books still deserved the top ten slot. I have There Will Come a Time to read and seeing it as a five star read from you has made me very, very eager to read it sooner, rather than later. Yay!

June 10, 2014 - 10:01 am

Ideklinz - The Nina LaCour book is sitting on my shelf & can’t wait to read–and Me Before You is ready to go on my kindle…although I’m gonna need to really prep myself before I read it :*( pointe & Life By Committee are on my TBR list…ya kno, that ever growing list that never stops haha

June 10, 2014 - 9:18 am

Jennifer from YA Book Nerd - Great list – I loved Everything Leads Back to You.

June 10, 2014 - 9:16 am

Meg - I’m totally getting The One and Only ASAP — though you’re definitely right about Giffin’s recent misses, she’s still a must-read author for me — and I’m psyched about this one!

So many other great books here, none of which I’ve read! I see my wishlist growing exponentially . . .

Shelve It: In Which We Buy All the Books

Howdy, friends! We’re both checking in to confess how many books share the books we’ve purchased lately with another Shelve It. It’s been a good, good month for reading and we both, um, went a little overboard. Our wallets are feeling quite depleted, but we’re really excited about all of these and we hope you are, […]

Judith - M, I can’t wait to see what you think of Pointe. I’ve heard AMAZING things about it. I also thoroughly enjoyed Rites of Passage and On the Fence, so I hope you’ll like them.

E, whoa, amazing books! Of course, Open Road Summer is my FAVORITE. I also love the Great cake, and I can’t wait to read that.

May 3, 2014 - 1:56 am

Alexa S. - Whee, happy reading ladies! I think I got roughly the same amount of books you each did individually, so we’re good. I’d say we bought just the right amount for such an awesome week of releases!

April 30, 2014 - 10:09 pm

brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Hahaha M’s super incriminating purchase page! but good purchases!!! It’s okay, E, it happens to the best of us. Amazing events! So much fun. It’s hard when they’re all back-to-back but it’s also just like a whirlwind of amazing! And YAY Open Road Summer finally arrived! Yessss!

April 27, 2014 - 5:13 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Not going to lie – seeing all these beautiful books in one post has made me feel a little better about the fact that I went book buying crazy this month. SO MANY PRE-ORDERS, y’all. And then, you know, lots of unplanned purchases that I couldn’t resist… and I can’t even blame it on attending any signings.

Also, I just grabbed Pointe from the library this week per E’s rec. Hope I get to it before it’s due back!

April 24, 2014 - 12:38 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - Look at all those beautiful books! I’m jealous, Estelle, that you got to attend Jenny Han’s pub party. From the pics I saw, it looked like such a good time! Also, that comment about her sister & christmas morning.. COMPLETELY agree with that. Magan, I want updates when you read Corey’s book!

PS, Teen Book Con is this weekend, so I’m sure I’ll have a post similar to this one sometime next week with all my book purchases! Can’t wait!

April 23, 2014 - 12:20 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I don’t think you guys picked up too many books at all. Of course, I might not be the best person to ask that question 🙂

That’s awesome that there were so many book events last week, Estelle. Magan, I haven’t read Unremembered, but it’s definitely on my list. I got to see Jessica Brody at the Rochester Teen Book Fest last year, and she was a fun speaker.

Enjoy all your goodies and happy reading! 🙂

Pushing that Preorder Button

Today I’m talking about one of my favorite things in the whole world: shopping! I love to shop for dresses, purses, makeup, home decor, stationary, arts and crafts supplies, gifts for other people. I mean, you name it and I love to buy it. Especially, books. Lots and lots of books. On Amazon, on B&N […]

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Oh wow, you loved GREAT that much? Are you a Gatsby fan or was the book just that good? I read Gatsby in high school and I enjoyed it but I didn’t love it so I didn’t even download the egalley of GREAT because I thought I wasn’t going to like it enough!
I can’t wait to read the Geography of You and Me. I’ve been hearing really good things about it! BUT I should read This is What Happy Looks like first too! 🙂
I’m not really a pre-orderer AT ALL. I don’t know why… Maybe because I like walking into the store and picking out my book and I NEED to take it home with me (I don’t like waiting for deliveries) but I just pre-ordered a bunch of books yesterday because I want those ASAP and going to the store takes a lot more time now than it used to because nothing is on the way home anymore haha.
YAY all good things! 🙂

Retrospect #11-12 (Double Edition): March 23rd : Dudette Reads - […] Estelle @ Rather Be Reading talks about pre-ordering books. […]

March 22, 2014 - 12:12 pm

Alexa - I think it has been a long time since I preordered anything. I was buying finished copies like yourself but then I stopped doing that as well. Now I don’t have a ton of extra money since I quit my job to be in a medical program full time so I hardly preorder books.

March 21, 2014 - 6:58 pm

Kelly - I never preorder books! I think the only one I’ve ever preordered was Deathly Hallows, and that was only to a) guarantee myself a copy on release day and b) to avoid spoilers by reading it ASAP.

I really like the idea of preordering something that won’t be released for months, and forgetting about it, only to have it show up on my doorstep! Might be a new shopping tactic I need to employ 🙂

March 20, 2014 - 7:59 pm

Alexa S. - I only started pre-ordering things recently, and they’re usually things that I’ve (a) already read and loved or (b) are follow-ups in a series! I don’t do it often still, as it’s a fairly new thing for me — but I love it! Getting book mail is the best. (Also, your post kind of made me want to get Pointe!)

March 19, 2014 - 6:59 pm

Laura @ Scribbles & Wanderlust - Because I work in a bookstore, I tend to wait to borrow the hardbacks of books I’m interested in, read the first 50 pages, and then decide if I’d like to buy it and join the hype. I’m always so nervous about spending money, because sometimes the hype doesn’t live up. However, getting ARCs and THEN buying them — that always happens. THE GEOGRAPHY OF YOU AND ME is one of them; read the ARC and immediately pre-ordered so I could have my own copy.

Beautiful thing about ARCs. You’re reading them for free, like a library, without the lending/return policy. A blessing for my wallet.

I’ve heard great things about POINTE too…let us know what you think!

March 19, 2014 - 3:15 pm

bookrockbetty - I think you’ll really like Open Road Summer!! I liked that it not only focused on the romance, but a lot on friendship too… plus the whole… hot musician falls for non famous girl is always a fun premise!!! <3 I love the Life By Committee cover.

March 19, 2014 - 3:13 pm

Molly @ wrapped up in books - I’ve been trying to cut back on my pre-orders this year. I always buy books at author events, and I go to anything local, so that’s already several full-price hardcovers a year. If I really love a debut I read as an ARC I’ll sometimes pre-order. I do order library books 2-4 months out so we get them on release day and to support authors, because I know those pre-order numbers are important.

March 19, 2014 - 11:07 am

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I tend to go through phases of buying books, or getting them from libraries. But I really don’t preorder many books, usually because I know I can get them very quickly from the library.

I think you’ve picked some great books to pre-order though. I definitely want to read Open Road Summer. And I’m very interested in Pointe because BALLET!

March 19, 2014 - 10:51 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I preorder books, but not a lot. If it’s a book I know I want to read the day it is released and I won’t be able to get to a bookstore for some time, then you bet I click that preorder button. But my most recent trip to the bookstore reminded me how much I miss wandering through the aisles, picking up a book and reading the back cover, then deciding if I want to buy it or not. It’s a feeling that just calms my soul and something I won’t get from clicking a preorder button. But I do understand the importance of those preorders and how they benefit the author & such.

Btw, good decision on preordering Open Road Summer. I was going to do the same, but decided to hold off because Emery Lord will be here in April and I plan to buy a copy for her signing.
