Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Have Flown Under the Radar

Hiya, friends! We’re so happy to be sharing underrated books for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the incredible ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. Something we talk about often are books that we love that haven’t hit the blogosphere and aren’t circulating like crazy but should be. We were talking about From What I Remember […]

Tee @ YA Crush - You guys, this is a fabulous post. SO many great books. I am especially a huge fan of I’ll Be There by Holly Goldberg Sloan. I swear I push that book on everyone!

July 11, 2012 - 1:40 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Great list! I haven’t heard of most of these (hence the fact that they’re under the radar, hey?) but will be checking them out for sure! I loved North of Beautiful too — it was such a heartbreakingly beautiful story. And Bunheads! Who couldn’t love Bunheads!! So fun!

July 10, 2012 - 8:20 pm

Aimee @ Penmanship Smitten - I hate how I’ve heard of only four of these books and only read (and loved two). I’m definitely looking into the others, though North of Beautiful is already one of my favorite books (and one of the most poignant, beautiful books I’ve ever read). I also really loved The Lonely Hearts Club, and Bunheads is on my to-read list (as is everything by Melina Merchetta).

Fantastic list!

July 10, 2012 - 3:37 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I am in complete agreement when it comes to Geek Girl. It’s such a great book, and people have been overlooking it! I adored it when I read it and I’m so happy M did too! 🙂

July 10, 2012 - 2:55 pm

Mary @ My Sisters Bookshelf - Oooh I have strong feelings on this! Ones about which I am trying to spread the gospel include, but are not limited to!, Audrey Wait! By Robin Benway and all things Jaclyn Moriarty ( which I’ve already shamelessly plugged in a recommendation http://mysistersbookshelf.com/recommend-a-contemporary-book-the-year-secret-assignments-jaclyn-moriarty/)

Another is Megan Whalen Turner’s Thief of Attolia series. They are well-appreciated, but I love them so much and feel like they have such great appeal – they should be Percy-Jackson-popular!

July 10, 2012 - 1:16 pm

Shanyn - Sigh, I really need to read I’ll Be There. There is really no excuse at this point.

July 10, 2012 - 11:54 am

elena - Shamefully, I have only read TWO of these books on your list but one its way to me from the library. I am going to go book shopping on my library’s catalogue now!

July 10, 2012 - 11:52 am

Sarah @ Breaking the Binding - Wow, to be honest I haven’t heard of any of these books before I read your list, but I absolutely have to read some of them now! I’m especially interested in picking up “The Comeback Season” by Jennifer E. Smith as I’m a HUGE baseball fan!

Check out my list if you get a moment, I picked my top ten favorite tv characters !

July 10, 2012 - 11:01 am

Christina (A Reader of Fictions) - *bows head in shame*

When I clicked the link to come to your list, I was so sure I would have read several of your selections. WRONG. I’ve only read one of the twelve, although I do own three more. Maybe someday I’ll dig myself out of my review pile and get to them.

I did really like Geek Girl, the one I’ve read. A couple of these that I’d never heard of immediately went on my tbr.

July 10, 2012 - 9:24 am

Samantha @ Reading-AndCoffee - I’ve actually heard a fair bit about North of Beautiful lately! Great list!

July 10, 2012 - 9:19 am

stacie puett - i have read a few of these books. so great that they are being put out for all to see.

July 10, 2012 - 8:24 am

Anna - North of Beautiful! The Comeback Season! I’ll Be There! YES YES YES!

July 10, 2012 - 8:04 am

Mel@thedailyprophecy - I must admit, there are a lot of books on the list I haven’t heard of. So you picked some great books to showcase. I’ll be checking some of them! 🙂 Thanks for sharing and lovely idea ^^

July 10, 2012 - 1:38 am

Randi M - Great list! Going to have to check these out. 🙂 Flat-Out Love is hugely underrated in my opinion – it’s one of my faves!

July 10, 2012 - 12:37 am

Monica - I just started reading From What I Rememeber. Good to know I’m in for a treat. 🙂 I think Amanda Hocking’s Trylle Trilogy is totally underrated. I haven’t heard that many people talking about it but I read the first two books in less than two days. Love them.

July 10, 2012 - 12:31 am

Sash from Sash and Em - While her book, Please Ignore Vera Dietz did receive a Printz Honor in 2009, I feel like A.S. King is super underrated. Like, do people not see the awesomeness of her writing? PIVD was one of my favorite reads of the year and I just finished her latest book (coming in October), Ask the Passengers. Her line at ALA Annual for an in booth signing (when I went in the last 5-10 minutes) was EMPTY. I mean, what is this craziness?! AND I’m reading Everybody Sees the Ants right now 🙂

Love you guys (and this post!)

Daisy - YES!!! SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS BOOK!! I can’t believe this books hasn’t gotten more buzz before, I adored it! And Trevor! I don’t think I would have been able to resist him either 😉 I love that this book deals with tough subjects but is also a really sweet lovestory.

July 10, 2012 - 11:48 am

Hollie @ Music, Books and Tea - I remember vaguely hearing about this one, but I didn’t pay it that much attention. After reading your review though, I’m definitely going to be reading this one in the near future!

July 9, 2012 - 11:22 pm

Top Ten Tuesday: Underrated Books That Have Flown Under the Radar - […] This book doesn’t have a ton of reviews on Goodreads, but this bad girl trying to seduce a good boy tale deserves so much more love. It’s raw and powerful and so many details are beautifully woven together. Bennett did an incredible job of making sure each part of her story was well-crafted. (And it’s only $4.29 on the kindle!) goodreads / amazon / M’s review […]

July 9, 2012 - 6:08 pm

Kristen - Added this to my ever growing TBR list. 🙂 From what you’ve said about it, this book sounds fantastic. I love it when we actually get to know the characters really well. Plus, I kinda have a thing for nerdy/geeky boys, so… pretty sure I’m gonna love Trevor. <3 Thanks for the review!

July 9, 2012 - 3:54 pm

Magan - Kate – I am so glad you’re enjoying Smart Girls Get What They Want. Really curious to know what you think when you’re done! AND YAY FOR GEEK GIRL going on your TBR! It’s only $4.29, so not a bad deal at all for such a great book! Enjoy!

July 9, 2012 - 3:52 pm

Magan - Alexa! YAY! It always makes me SO happy when a friend has enjoyed a book as much as me. I 100% agree about the brilliantly written part. I felt like every single thing was wonderfully taken care of!

July 9, 2012 - 3:47 pm

Kate @ Musings - Sounds like a cute book to read! I love stories like this. Right now, I am eating up Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer and quite enjoying it! Just put Geek Girl on my TBR list in GoodReads!

July 9, 2012 - 3:37 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - YES to sharing the love for GEEK GIRL! I absolutely adored this book when I got the chance to read it last year (and I can’t even remember how I discovered it!). We should totally spread the love on Goodreads. It’s brilliantly written and just a lot of fun to read!

July 9, 2012 - 3:12 pm

Magan - Thanks, Elena! I think you hit the nail on the head. Seeing her change and feel loved was SO captivating. I mean, usually the bad boys are so fun and attractive (steamy!) in YA, but Jen had a bad rep for her bad-girl ways. I liked that Trevor could always tell that deeper down, she was better than what she was pretending to be.

July 9, 2012 - 3:11 pm

Magan - Lena! My sentiments exactly! It’s all kinds of right. GO BUY IT!

July 9, 2012 - 2:11 pm

Lena - Eeeer, that first . should be a ?

*shame*

July 9, 2012 - 2:10 pm

Lena - How have I not heard of this book. It sounds SO good! Must buy…MUST BUY!

July 9, 2012 - 1:55 pm

Elena - I bought this immediately after reading your review! It was a cute story, I did like Trevor a lot. I liked that it was a role reversal of the typical bad boy cliche. It was nice seeing Jen’s change and realising she could be loved. Wonderful review, M!

July 9, 2012 - 10:10 am

Angela Parker - I love all of Cindy C. Bennetts books. And I agree they’re so over looked!
