Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Whoops, hit post before I was done :). I keep hearing great things about Beautiful Ruins, but the cover doesn’t excite me. Maybe the shiny version is better? Regardless, I look forward to hearing what you think, and all about BEA too!!!

Alexa Y. - I love your poem! Once again, you’ve managed to awe me with your creativity. I’m definitely planning on reading Criminal, because it sounds freaking BRILLIANT.

May 23, 2013 - 5:33 pm

Kelly - I haven’t done one of these types of poems since high school, but they’re so effective! I can picture myself thinking of your highlights (great character development, emotional, intense, fast-paced) when I run across Criminal in store! Haha

May 22, 2013 - 2:04 pm

DannyBookworm - I loved Criminal… even though that might be the wrong word to use.. Criminal was intense and sad, but it stayed with me for a very long time!
Love your Acrostic!

May 21, 2013 - 11:23 pm

Courtney @ Courtney Reads A Lot - Love it! Poetry is amazing and this made me so happy! 😀

May 21, 2013 - 9:52 pm

elena - LOVE your poem! esp the shades of gray line/the gray actually being gray. 🙂 and what a last line! so good.

May 21, 2013 - 9:06 pm

Amanda @ Late Nights with Good Books - hee I enjoyed reading your acrostic poem, Estelle! I’ve heard such good things about McVoy, but I felt like Being Friends with Boys wasn’t quite my type of book. It sounds like I’ll have far more luck with Criminal, so I definitely will have to make some time to read it!

May 21, 2013 - 3:32 pm

Tara - <3<3<3 your poem! You're so freaking creative 🙂

May 21, 2013 - 12:48 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - So creative, I love this! And thanks for the reminder, I wanted to read this but totally forgot about it. I just requested it from the library 🙂

Anything for Love: Criminal by Terra Elan McVoy | wrapped up in books - […] Estelle at Rather be Reading: “Criminal is such a tight, well-written story yet still leaves a lot of room for discussion. I really appreciated the leaps that McVoy took with her writing this go-around; this story about power, lust, and love never felt over-dramatized or black and white.” […]

Sapir - You have definitely convined me to read this book!! I am currently looking for a unique YA book and this one totally sounds like one.
I am really glad to hear that the romance was realistic and not over-dramatic, because from the synopsis I thought differently at first.
Great review and thanks for sharing!!

Tara - I need to read this book immediately. I have so much respect for the author and even though this book is pretty different from her others, it sounds like she mastered the darkness and created a superb story.

Maggie, Young Adult Anonymous - *Add to-read list* *Check release date* *Tap foot impatiently* The subject matter — WHOA.

April 16, 2013 - 5:13 pm

Elizabeth - I can’t wait to start this book. Once you said you had to hide it in another room so you wouldn’t be tempted to read all night, I knew it was my kind of book! Thanks so much for posting!

April 16, 2013 - 4:03 pm

Alexa Y. - I cannot tell you how intrigued I am by this book. I haven’t read any of her other books, but I’m surprisingly attracted to this one the most, only because it sounds pretty suspenseful. While I’m sure I’d want to shake some sense into Nikki as I read, I’m also curious to see how her character grows and develops in this one. Great review E!

April 16, 2013 - 12:20 pm

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - I CANNOT WAIT to read this one. I CANNOT WAIT. I am such a fan of this author and the fact that you say “Criminal was one of those books I had to hide in another room so I wouldn’t be tempted to keep picking it up way way past my bedtime.” makes me want to start it TODAY. Perhaps I will. Gah this sounds amazing and discussable which is my recipe for awesome. Great, great thoughts Estelle. Wow.

April 16, 2013 - 10:23 am

Kelly - Ooh I love these kind of books! The ones that aren’t black and white, that leave you thinking well into the night, that you just have to talk to someone about in order to try and make some sort of sense out it all! Here’s hoping that I’m as conflicted about how I feel about Nikki’s blind adoration and seemingly weakness as you were!

April 16, 2013 - 10:02 am

Lisa Schensted - This sounds like the kind of book that I would totally need to read in a sitting.

I like that it sounds as if Nikki grows and develops, but still makes some decisions that leave you WTFFFFF at her – which sounds so authentic and real and relatable.

I hadn’t heard of this one before! Thanks for sharing the review on a book that certainly is different from the others that are out there!

April 16, 2013 - 9:19 am

Cassie - This sounds so good its not even funny. & RIGHT up my alley.
