Magan’s Farewell to 2013

I just can’t even … how is today the last day of 2013? I’m flabbergasted, really. So much of what I anticipated for 2013 turned out to be completely different, and my reading life was certainly altered so much by the arrival of our foster daughter. Solid reading time became more of a challenge for […]

Alexa S. - I loved reading your survey, M! It makes me giddy/happy that Crown of Midnight is on your list of choices for best books (and can you imagine how much fun it will be to gush over Chaol in the next one?). And I definitely have to check out the books by Sara Zarr and Lindsey Leavitt! I also love that you were more personal with us this year, particularly when it came to your pregnancy and your foster daughter. As always, wishing you lots of love — and extra reading mojo too! <3

Michelle (Pink Polka Dot Book Blog) - I really liked Winger too!! And Rainbow Rowell became one of my fav new authors for sure. I mean FANGIRL!!! I’m glad you liked the Confessions of an Angry girl series. I swear it doesn’t get enough love and I really want the rest of the series to get picked up by the publisher! I love Tom Leveen, but need to read Manicpixiedreamgirl. It sounds like I would love it. (If you haven’t read Party, it’s really good.) Good luck with the new baby… I got a lot of reading done when I had my son, but don’t know if I got enough sleep that I would have been able to form sentences to describe what I read ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy 2014!

ashley - Oh you. I’m so glad we’ve become closer friends this year. Thank you cereal! <3

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - You are amazing! I know that you will embrace life with your new little one with the same grace and ease that you’ve applied to everything else thus far. And, honestly? I think I had more reading time when Marko was super little…except that I was tired more ;). It’s all about balance, and I’m sure you’ll find yours in no time! I, for one, can’t WAIT to meet your new little one! I’m sure that Baby B can hang on for you to finish Ignite Me ๐Ÿ˜‰

December 31, 2013 - 8:17 pm

alisa selene - I loved Eleanor &Park, Fangirl! She is awesome!

December 31, 2013 - 12:22 pm

Lisa Schensted - I wish you ALL OF THE LUCK finding balance in 2014 with blogging and posting and being a newborn’s mama! YOU CAN DO IT.

Estelle’s End of the Year Survey (So Long 2013)

I love the End of the Year Survey + I loathe the End of the Year survey because it’s so difficult to pick favorites, especially after reading 160 books this year. I’m going to try to do what I did last year which is answer each question as differently, as possible so I can get […]

Judith - I’m really, really happy I found your blog and met you in 2013, E! <3 You are so sweet and I love talking books with you.

I don't know why I didn't mark that passage from Just One Day (I don't even remember it!) but it's so beautiful. To be honest, I could just quote that entire book. You're also really making me want to read How To Love.

And I wish I lived closer so we could meet as well. The pics you took with all those other lovely bloggers are so great!

January 6, 2014 - 10:46 pm

Alexa S. - You know what? I’m one of those people that immediately adds books to my TBR right after you share them for Big Kids’ Table. Maybe I should make it a point to read at least one from each batch you recommend this year…

Also, I am insanely jealous you’ve met Cassie in person. I’m of a mind to make sure it happens that she and I get to meet in person this year too!

Other things… I look forward to hanging out more with you in 2014, since I feel like we didn’t get to do that enough after I left in August. I foresee shenanigans – Disney, bookish or Broadway – in our future. Lots of love for you, E! <3

Rather Be Reading: Magan's Farewell to 2013 - […] precious (does that even make sense?). Hopefully I can give you some solid recommendations, but Estelle’s End of Year Survey just rocked my socks off with all the variety. Be sure to revisit hers for even more book recs! And […]

Alisa Selene - The Time Between Us sounds really cool! I need to check it out! Happy New Year!

December 29, 2013 - 12:20 pm

Jessika Michaelangelo - I love this list. You answered each question so thoughtfully, and as a (relatively) new follower, I found some books and posts that I hadn’t had a chance to read before. This blog has been such an inspiration to me as a new blogger, I love it. You girls are both so genuine and I know I can trust your thoughts on books.

Anyway, happiest of New Years to you both ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. I am TOTALLY jealous that you got to meet Lauren Graham! That is an awesome picture!

December 28, 2013 - 1:09 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I’m with you on this series being exhausting to fill out, but I LOVED reading your answers!!!! Also, I just ordered a copy of How to Love, solely based on your love for the book (and Magan’s too, of course). Pregnancy books are a little unnerving now, but since I know Magan loved it too, I’m excited to give it a go!

Also, thank you for the shout-out on my review!!! It was one of my favourites of the year ๐Ÿ™‚

Finally, I, too, succumbed to Cassie’s book pushing on Nowhere But Home, but it’s sitting on my shelves…I’ve seen it pop up on a few surveys so far, so I’m looking foward to savouring it in the new year.

Can’t wait for more amazing posts for you lovely ladies! And, of course, to meet Baby B!!!!! That’s one of my most highly anticipated moments of 2014 for sure!

December 28, 2013 - 6:12 am

Cassie - TOTALLY read that whole thing and now think I have to read LCD Love Story and Tamara Ireleland Stone ASAP. You are so sweet and so happy we became friends this year. You made me tear up! Lucky for me its 6am so no one noticed ๐Ÿ˜‰

December 27, 2013 - 3:27 pm

Sara (of The Page Sage) - I loved reading your answers! OCD Love Story sounds great and I really need to read Two Boys Kissing already! Reality Boy definitely deserves more attention- the characters are so well-crafted. Rafe is an awesome character because he makes so many mistakes and Fangirl is definitely worth a reread.

Recaptains is so cool- Series Sisters is a similar site.

December 27, 2013 - 2:16 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - I’m going to leave you a bunch of annoying comments as I read your survey…thank you for reaffirming my decision not to read The Fault In Our Stars…I really need to read Starstruck…I can’t wait for you to read Elana K. Arnold’s other books either!…I guess I have to read OCD A Love Story…thank for the shout out, I’m so glad I met you virtually and in real life this year! And I love that we can disagree, those are the best type of friendships, IMO!

December 27, 2013 - 1:44 pm

Christina @ Allodoxophobia - What an amazing post! And thank you so much for the shout out ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so glad we found each other this year. Perhaps we’ll get to meet in person in 2014!

December 27, 2013 - 11:11 am

Meg - Aw, loved this post — and can feel my TBR expanding as we speak! Thank you so much for the mention, too — brought a huge smile to my face. I’m hoping I get much more reading done in 2014… this wasn’t my year for books! Eek. But I have plenty of novels to keep me occupied starting in January!

December 27, 2013 - 10:38 am

Lily - I really need to get my hands on The Vow by Jessica Martinez since I loved both her previous books but just haven’t gotten around to reading this one. Nice list you’ve got here, it sounds like you read a lot of books this year that you really enjoyed.

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I love doing this survey, too, even though it takes so long to complete. It really helps me reflect on my reading and blogging for the year.

Anyway, I couldn’t list only one favorite for the year either. But I think that’s a good thing. It means we read s a lot of AMAZING books this year. So yay!

I haven’t read any of your favorites this year (shame on me) but Wringer is at the top of my TBR list. I think I’m going to listen to the audiobook. I just love the cover for that book, too.

I’ve been really curious about The Time Between Us series, but Time Travel freaks me out a bit. Although, you say the same thing, and you did love these books, so I’m thinking I should give them a try.

You read so many books this year! 160! I’m not exactly sure how many I read because I also include all the picture books I read on my Goodreads challenge. I mean they are books, but I can read them in 5-10 minutes.

Anyway, I’m pretty excited about next year.
