In addition to these books, I’ll happily take a few solid days off work and will soak up any given opportunity to read them. Promise. Four • Just One […]

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - All those little Christmas tree book covers are so cute. I wouldn’t mind finding Ask Again Later under the Christmas tree either. I’ve read it already, but I would love to own my own copy.

December 23, 2014 - 12:41 pm

Mel @ Reviews In A Pinch - I really just want to add your list to my list and make it bigger, but that seems kind of greedy during the season of giving. I hope you find most if not all of these under your tree!

December 23, 2014 - 11:01 am

Tiff @ Mostly YA Lit - I totally forgot to ask for Four! On it now.

You must get to The Lonely Hearts Club – so cute, such a fast read, and it will leave you with a warm feeling in your heart, Magan.

Magan: Shelve It July 1, 2012

HI, FRIENDS! I kind of feel like a slacker because I don’t have a vlog for today’s Shelve It, but ya know, sometimes life gets a little hectic (and I look a little ca-razy today…therefore should not be seen in vlog format). Moving on. I did go to ALA this past week, but I’m just […]

Magan - Paige! You’ve got to pick up SCS soon! It’s sooooooooo good! Read it asap!

July 4, 2012 - 12:26 pm

Paige - I’m so jealous of Second Chance Summer. It’s a monster of a book but it looks so good. Also Hush Hush is really good I loved the first two books! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week. Here’s my IMM!

Magan - Hi Kim! I didn’t ask for these books, but Simon & Schuster was gracious and kind enough to send them to me. They’re familiar with the types of books I usually read and are also pushing me to get out of my comfort zone a bit. 🙂 They’re a fantastic publisher and I’m so thankful for their generosity. If you’re hoping to establish relationships with publishers, my advice is to follow up with them for the review books you’re reading. If you do netgalley or get books from conferences, make sure you touch base with them and do send through a review. I think follow-through and consistency goes a long way. Hope this helps!

July 3, 2012 - 10:16 am

Kim - They just sent you a box of books? or did you ask for them?

July 3, 2012 - 2:21 am

Sana @ artsy musings of a bibliophile - Lauren Barnholdt’s books and Possession look nice! Happy reading, Magan =D

VeganYANerds - I bet ALA was fun and hooray for meeting Morgan!

Nice stack of books! S&S in Australia are really fantastic, too. I still haven’t read Second Chance Summer, even though I have a copy and I enjoyed Hush, Hush. It’s not the best series ever written but it was a fun read!

July 2, 2012 - 10:02 am

April Books & Wine - I am curious how you’ll feel about the relationship in Hush, Hush. I’ve zero interest in reading that series, but I like reading people’s reactions to it. That’s strange isn’t it?

ANYWAYS!

I love seeing all those pretty contemps stacked up.

Happy reading 😀

July 1, 2012 - 5:56 pm

margie {the bumble girl} - Oh, I love the Hush, Hush series! You’re either going to love Patch or hate him, lol. The third book was a bit of a disappointment, but I’m hoping that the last one will make up for it!
Great stack of books, I hope you’re enjoying them right now 🙂

July 1, 2012 - 2:30 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - I need to buy Second Chance Summer! I just finished Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, which was SO cute. I heard they make an appearance in Second Chance Summer, which makes me ridiculously excited! I also enjoyed Hush, Hush, so I hope that you will too. =)

Happy reading! <3

Author Spotlight: A Chat with Gwendolyn Heasley

I’m so pleased to welcome Gwendolyn Heasley to Rather Be Reading. If you remember, last week I reviewed Gwen’s June release, A LONG WAY FROM YOU about a vibrant Texan who travels to New York to attend an art program for a month. A LONG WAY FROM YOU is a companion novel to her debut, […]

Mary @ My Sisters Bookshelf - This interview is great! I love that she put in favorite spots from the West Village WHERE SHE ACTUALLY LIVES! I’ll pick it up just for that! I’m about to post a grouchy review of Anna and the French Kiss (everyone has already read it but I wanted to explain what I don’t like about it so I could explain what I DO like about Lola!) I had a huge problem with the fact that it felt like the author hadn’t lived in Paris – which she hadn’t. It’s so much more fun when books are set in real places that authors know and love (or hate!) well!

June 28, 2012 - 4:09 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I love that her companion novel was set in New York! It’s extra special since I now live here too. Oh, and I’m in complete agreement about cookies!

Shelve It: 6/24/2012 - […] Such a Rush last week and I can’t say enough fantastic things about it. – A bonus review of A Long Way From You by Gwendolyn Heasley set in NYC! – Magan raves about Something Like Normal by Trish Doller. Have […]

Daisy - It sounds like a cute read! And I love books set in NY! I’ve never been there, but it’s my dream to go and discover all the amazingness it has to offer! I’m not a big fan of the name Kitsy, maybe because the word ‘kits’ is associated with vomiting in Dutch 😉
But any book that has a character you’d want to hang out with in real life in it sounds good to me 🙂 Thanks for the review!

June 21, 2012 - 3:47 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I love books set in NYC! This really does sound like a cute read, and I definitely want to check it out. Great review E!

June 21, 2012 - 2:04 pm

Magan - Elena! That was my favorite line of E’s review, too, though I may be biased… 🙂

June 21, 2012 - 11:04 am

elena - “Cutest Texan I’ve met since Magan.” AHAHA I LOVE THAT! Also oooh, cute musician boy? This seems like an adorable read! I wouldn’t have picked it up (the cover is misleading, it looks like a scene from The Little Mermaid except with blonde hair) but I might have to now!
