In My Mailbox (16) … featuring TLA Author Signings

Happy Sunday, you guys! Thanks for visiting for this week’s In My Mailbox, a weekly feature hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. Each week we share the books we borrow, buy, or receive from publishers. I attended TLA in Houston, TX this week, where I went to a LOT of author signings. I’m featuring […]

Eva, The Book Stoner - I LOVE your IMM! πŸ™‚

I can’t wait for SECOND CHANCE SUMMER (I LOVED Matson’s Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour) and MEANT TO BE (I fell in love with the cover).

April 24, 2012 - 8:35 am

Magan - Haha – thanks, Katie! The bookcases are my favorite. Trying to keep the husband from disorganizing them is a whole other task! SO excited for Thursday! xoxo

April 23, 2012 - 7:14 pm

Katie Mundie Moms - Embrace the girlness!! πŸ˜‰ LOVE the bookcases and seeing all the lovely books. So glad you had such a wonderful time at TLA!! See you Thursday!!

April 23, 2012 - 2:14 pm

Magan - Kathryn, thanks so much! Definitely excited about Cinder, too!

April 23, 2012 - 2:13 pm

Magan - Ah, Joy! Veronica was one of the first authors I’ve ever met. I went to a signing of hers in Austin last June and was literally speechless. I had no idea what to say. I felt like such a fangirl! TOTALLY speechless! Thanks so much for your comment! πŸ™‚

April 23, 2012 - 2:12 pm

Magan - Estelle, you are my favorite. Obviously. I love that you know… you commented on our blog. πŸ™‚ xoxoxoxoxo

April 23, 2012 - 2:11 pm

Magan - I’m so glad to hear that Paige! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! Enjoy the remainder of the summer series! πŸ™‚

April 23, 2012 - 2:11 pm

Magan - Elena, give the summer series another try! The whole series is really wonderful. I consumed all three books in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t put them down. Thanks for the heads up about The Fine Art of Truth or Dare. I have read lots of mixed reviews of it. Tahereh is alos one of MY favorite people, too! πŸ™‚

April 23, 2012 - 2:09 pm

Magan - Thanks, Mands! I love the cover of Meant to Be, too. I really can’t wait to read it. Feeling extremely perplexed about how I’ll manage all my reading! Haha πŸ™‚

April 23, 2012 - 1:21 pm

Kathryn @ Clean Teen Fiction - You got to meet Veronica Roth! I’m jealous. I’m looking forward to reading Cinder too.
My IMM

April 23, 2012 - 11:08 am

Joy - I can’t wait for May 1 & Insurgent! I so loved Divergent & I was able to meet Veronica Roth at ALA last summer in New Orleans. Totally geeked out!

I loved Firelight & Ten Things We Did. I hope you do as well! The rest of you books are all on my TBR list. Great taste. πŸ™‚

My very first IMM

April 23, 2012 - 9:00 am

Estelle - You are lovely & I didn’t find this overly girlie at all. Although more and more I realize I want to tape my own when it’s LIGHT out… I always look like I’m in a cave. haha. Added 2 of these books to my own list. So glad you had a great time at your bookish events and got to meet some great people! I think we need to trade some tips on how to not be awkward when you meet authors. Sigh. NEXT TIME.

April 22, 2012 - 11:18 pm

Paige - I just finished The Summer I Turned Pretty and I really loved it. I can’t wait to read the second book! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week. Here’s my IMM!

~Paige @ Comfort Books

April 22, 2012 - 9:32 pm

elena - I skimmed through We’ll Always Have Summer but wasn’t really interested in it. I think it’s because it wasn’t the right time for me, I’m going to try it again! Love summer reads. I’m really curious what you’ll think about The Fine Art of Truth or Dare! I liked it a lot when I read it but when I thought about it, I didn’t like it as much, ha. I’m going to try to reread Divergent too before I read Insurgent! So excited to hear about Tahereh Mafi and Veronica Rossi. Tahereh has one of my favourite personalities of YA authors. I bet you’ll have a lot of fun! πŸ˜€

April 22, 2012 - 8:29 pm

VeganYANerds - I love your llog, Magan and thanks for the kind words about mine this week! <3

I LOVE the cover of Meant to Be, I want it for the cover alone as well as Second Chance Summer.

Also, I was sure my bf would laugh at my vlog but he was actually really nice when he was helping me upload it. Yours is not at all too girly, not that being girly is a bad thing πŸ˜‰

April 22, 2012 - 7:42 pm

Magan - Hey Amy! It would have been SO great to see you again! I only went for a day because I couldn’t take off too long from work either. Really hoping that you and I can meet up again soon! πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 7:41 pm

Magan - Nea, I’m so glad you said you liked The Fine Art of Truth or Dare. I’ve heard it’s sort of a mixed feelings book, so I’m definitely giving it a go. I’ll let you know what I think! Thanks so much for your comment!

April 22, 2012 - 7:40 pm

Magan - Haha, thanks Margie! I know, silly husband! I guess I assumed he’d seen other IMM posts by me, but I suppose he hasn’t been watching like I thought (*shoots husband the evil eye*). You know, the lines were not terrible AT all for most of these books. The longest one was for Insurgent, but we were maybe there for an hour. Maybe. πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 7:38 pm

Magan - Thanks, Laura! I’m so excited about these books. The conference was a ton of fun. If you EVER get the chance to go to an event (TLA was $25!) you should go. Meeting the people is absolutely incredible! And yes, hoping Insurgent lands in your hands early on May 1st! πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 7:12 pm

Laura @ The Traveling Owl - What a great group of books you got. Sounds like y’all had fun at the conference.

I have to say, majorly jealous about Insurgent. I’ve pre-ordered my copy. Just waiting for May 1 to get here.

Happy reading!

Laura @ The Traveling Owl

April 22, 2012 - 5:50 pm

margie c {the bumble girl} - Bring on the girly! Hubs is just jealous cause he doesn’t have anything cool to talk about πŸ˜‰
I cannot wait to read Wake, Cinder and Meant To Be, they all sound so good! and yay for seeing friends and getting signed books! Must have been so much fun, I cannot imagine standing in a crowd like that, but I’m sure it was all worth it!
Thanks for you vlogs, I really enjoy them! Happy reading πŸ™‚

Here’s my IMM:

April 22, 2012 - 4:05 pm

nea barabea - Woow!! Signed Insurgent!! ANd The fine art of truth and dare!! So so good!! Great mailbox! Enjoy all your amazing books this week πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 3:58 pm

Amy @ bookgoonie - Awesome, Beautiful books. I really wanted to go to TLA, but taking off the week before TAKS testing would earn me a pink slip.

April 22, 2012 - 2:47 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Wow — what an awesome batch of books you got! I wish Vancouver would have a bookish event like the ones that you’ve been able to attend! That’s sooooo cool that you met so many authors too, and got your books signed! I think I would probably die if I met Veronica Roth. I’m so excited for Insurgent, I can barely stand it. And I have to wait an extra week so that I can order it with City of Lost Souls and get free shipping. *pouts*

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on my IMM — I agree with you that book friends are the bestest! I can’t WAIT to read Variant too! xoxo

April 22, 2012 - 1:15 pm

April Books & Wine - I feel like Texas always as the cool events. I mean, I love NY and all, but WHAT A BUNCH OF COOL THINGS YOU ALL GET.

I live in jealousy of signed books πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 12:53 pm

Magan - LENA! I’m so, so happy I got to see your beautiful face. I loved spending time with you! Can’t wait til JUNE! πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 12:46 pm

Magan - I MISS YOU TOOO! I will tell him G said to shut it. πŸ™‚ YES to the books. So excited. Just got home from my wedding weekend and I will be reading for the REST OF THE DAY. Not looking cute…in very comfortable clothes, actually. Haha.

April 22, 2012 - 12:43 pm

Magan - KATIE! That would have been so wonderful. SO sad we didn’t cross paths. DANG IT.

YAY for Insurgent, and SUPER YAY for you loving Cinder. I’m so pumped to read that book. Will definitely let you know my thoughts.

Also, you should definitely let me know when you’re in the Austin area. We’ll hang out! πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 12:41 pm

Magan - Karen, I definitely wish I could have seen you again! It was a wonderful day. LOVED being there. Completely different atmostphere than ALA. πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 12:17 pm

Karen - I didn’t notice the girly vibe because I’m too busy looking at the beautiful shelves behind you. lol
They are so neat and color coordinated πŸ™‚
Enjoy all your books. It sounded like you all had a great time!

April 22, 2012 - 10:27 am

Katie @ BlookGirl - You were at TXLA, too?! DARN! It seems I missed a lot of wonderful bloggers while I got lost in the aisles. LOL. Wish I could have met you, but definitely next time!

I am SO incredibly excited for INSURGENT. Since I didn’t get to snag the ARC at TXLA, I did the next best thing and pre-ordered it at Veronica Roth’s book signing last night πŸ˜‰ Not too much longer to wait!

CINDER is absolutely amazing, and is my favorite read of 2012 thus far. I really hope you enjoy it. Isn’t it wonderful to have such amazing, generous friends? Go Jess! πŸ™‚

I hope you enjoy all your lovelies and that we have a chance to meet sometime soon!

April 22, 2012 - 8:01 am

Lena - So glad we got to hang out. Looooooooove you! Can’t wait to see you again. πŸ™‚

April 22, 2012 - 7:59 am

Lena - Yay, look at all your pretty signed books! Uber jealous about Second Chance Summer and Fathomless. You are going to love Cinder and Ten Things We Did!

I’m obsessed with Jackson Pearce’s perfect hair…

Estelle: In My Mailbox (4/15/12)

And it’s Sunday already! Hope all of you had a great week! It was a slo-oo-ow one for me and I’m sure the weekend will make up for it by going extra fast as always! Yay! As you probably know, IMM is a weekly meme started by the lovely and talented Kristi aka The Story […]

April 15, 2012 - 9:00 pm

VeganYANerds - I love all the library books you’re getting, I haven’t been to my library in so long, I really need to go for a visit but I will come back with way too many books!

Also, regarding My Most Excellent Year – you had me at Mary Poppins, sounds like a fun read!

April 15, 2012 - 3:14 pm

Jasmine Rose - I really enjoyed Small Town Sinners. I’ve heard people say it’s really preachy, but I didn’t feel that at all. It really just felt like a story about a girl questioning the things she’s also known to be fact.

April 15, 2012 - 1:39 pm

Molly@Reviewsbymolly - Lots of fantastic sounding reads! Enjoy them πŸ™‚ My IMM Post

April 15, 2012 - 1:14 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Oooh! TONS of awesome books this week!

I’ve been sort of terrified of reading The Secret Year because I KNOW it will make me FEEL EMOTIONS! lol

Jayla | LadyBlueJay - I have heard nothing but good things about Lexapros and Cons. I can’t wait to pick up my copy soon! πŸ™‚

April 15, 2012 - 8:51 am

Estelle - Hey Eva! Thanks for the comment! After I read My Most Excellent Year, you are welcome to borrow it. I have never heard of Kluger so I’m glad to hear that you have and you liked his other book. I’ll have to look into it. Hope you have a great week!

April 15, 2012 - 8:47 am

Eva @ The Book Stoner - AH! You have My Most Excellent Year! I’ve been meaning to read that book but local bookstores don’t have it. I also recently read Kluger’s other book, Almost Like Being In Love, and loved it. Kluger is a good writer. Can’t wait to read your review of My Most Excellent Year. πŸ™‚

April 15, 2012 - 8:41 am

Estelle - Nea, hi! I can’t wait to get start reading some Kieran Scott! Seems like a good read now that the weather is getting better, if that makes sense. Have a great week!

April 15, 2012 - 8:36 am

nea barabea - Awww She’s so dead to us!! This serie!! OMG I’ve heard it’s so so good!! Need to pick it up myself soon! πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚ Enjoy all your amazing books this week πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

Estelle: In My Mailbox (4/1/2012)

I had wanted to get this done SO much sooner but there was absolutely NO way. I spent so much extra time in the city this week because of the New York Teen Author Festival and I can’t stop raving about how great it was. (You’ll see in my vlog.) I’m going to write up […]

April 2, 2012 - 2:24 pm

elena - It does sound so amazing! I loved how you described it and it really makes me wish authors came to my state. I almost forced my friend to go for me since she lives in NYC and about two minutes from where the events were taking. Ah, I know what you mean about authors! I think it’s a similar experience when I meet musicians where I’m basically like, “OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M TALKING TO YOU.” It’s so nerve-wrecking! I wish you the best with your writing. πŸ™‚

April 2, 2012 - 2:05 pm

Ghenet Myrthil - Can I just say I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels super awkward about talking with authors? When I went to Books of Wonder to have Stephanie Perkins sign my copy of LOLA, I was super nervous and then quite awkward when we spoke! Haha. I feel even more like an introvert during those moments…Either way, I’m happy I got the book signed. She’s really nice!

Sorry I didn’t get to chat with you on Saturday! I hope we get to see each other again at other events in NYC. πŸ™‚

April 2, 2012 - 10:18 am

Estelle - Sharon, thanks for stopping in and for such a great comment! πŸ™‚ Glad to know you’ll be adding some of my books to your own TBR list. That’s such a great feeling. Hopefully the vlogs will only get easier or perhaps it was my lucky week. (My husband is convinced it is because he was outside of the house. ha!) Hope you have a great week of reading!

April 2, 2012 - 10:16 am

Estelle - Margie, I’m sad you didn’t make it to the events either! Perhaps you can travel in for something in the future? Yes yes yes. You must read Anna and Lola. ASAP. You won’t be disappointed and I guarantee you will want to reread them right after. Hope you have a great week!

April 2, 2012 - 10:15 am

Estelle - Mands, thanks lady! I really hope I can get to writing sometime soon. I have an idea. I just have to go forward with it. Do you guys get a lot of author events in Australia? This one was so fantastic. I could see a ton of people enjoying it all over. Ariel is the best. Anyone who could get away with wearing their bra all the time… rocks. Really. ha

April 2, 2012 - 10:13 am

Estelle - Jasmine, you must get on the LOLA train! You are going to love her. haha. She’s so much fun and very creative. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts when you get to it!

April 2, 2012 - 10:11 am

Estelle - Patricia, not childish at all! Glad you like your layout & name! Thanks for stopping in!

April 2, 2012 - 12:53 am

Patricia - It’s probably really childish, but I’m jealous of your name and also your blog-theme. Arrrrgh! XD And then there is your haul. I really enjoyed Lola! πŸ™‚

Happy Reading!

Patricia // My IMM

April 1, 2012 - 9:55 pm

Jasmine Rose - Can you believe I still haven’t read Lola and the Boy Next Door yet? I know, I’m terrible. I’ll be seeing Stephanie soon so I really need to get on that, though!

April 1, 2012 - 9:07 pm

VeganYANerds - Great vlog, Estelle! Also, I can totally see your name on the cover of a book, I am sure it will happen one day πŸ˜‰

The NY author event sounds great! It’s fun being able to meet authors and have them sign books and I love that you told Steph that she looked like Ariel, I LOVE The Little Mermaid too!

April 1, 2012 - 8:26 pm

margie c {the bumble girl} - I am so sad that I was not able to make it into the city yesterday and see everyone, sounds like you had a wonderful time! I look forward to hearing all about it!
Great books too! I have Lola but have yet to read it because I still need to read Anna first, eek! I hope to get to them this month πŸ™‚
Thanks for sharing, happy reading!

April 1, 2012 - 6:55 pm

Sharon @ Fictionally Inclined - Congrats on your breakthrough! I hope you get to start your novel this year; that would be awesome.

I’ve never been to a signing, but I imagine it would definitely be that awkward for me. I’ve never been good at small talk, and I don’t have a lot of experience (read: any) with meeting ~famous people.~ I mean, you don’t want to put the author off by fawning over them, but if you truly loved their book, it would be nice to be able to express that to them. Quandary.

Road trip book? Count me in! Definitely checking that one out on Goodreads. I’ve read one by that author before and enjoyed it.

Hooray for Lola and the Boy Next Door! Definitely worth buying. Aah, you got to meet Stephanie Perkins? That’s amazing!

I’ve never heard of The Miseducation of Cameron Post, but it looks fantastic. I really hope my library has it.

Ahaha, congratulations on your one try! It took me three. Of course, my second one was going well until my roommate walked in on me holding a book up to my computer and seemingly talking to no one. Awkward. Anyway!

I really enjoyed your vlog. I will definitely be watching for future vlogs by you. πŸ™‚

April 1, 2012 - 6:27 pm

Estelle - Katie, Lola is such a great book. I can’t wait to reread it yet again. πŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping in to comment!

April 1, 2012 - 6:17 pm

Katie @ Call Me Crazy - I loved Lola and the Boy Next Door and Two Way Street! The Miseducation of Cameron Post sounds really good. I hope you’re having an awesome weekend! πŸ™‚

April 1, 2012 - 3:28 pm

Estelle - April, I go through phases with missing college but after this week, I *really* missed it. I’m excited about Emily’s book! I think I’m going to have to sneak it to the top of my TBR pile ASAP. Hope you had a great weekend!

April 1, 2012 - 3:20 pm

April Books & Wine - I bet you’ll really like The Miseducation Of Cameron Post.

Also? I miss college. You mentioned that writing reminded you of college. And sigh, that makes me miss college.

April 1, 2012 - 3:12 pm

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - Wow, what a great week you had! I bet meeting Stephanie Perkins was really exciting! She seems really nice. πŸ™‚

Enjoy your books. πŸ™‚

April 1, 2012 - 2:56 pm

Dani C. - What a nice haul! I may have to add some of these to my TBR pile.

Thanks for sharing your goodies!

April 1, 2012 - 2:35 pm

Estelle - Melissa, I got better when I went to the other two writers… but I felt so dumb. So dumb. It was also a http://ratherbereadingblog.com/wp-admin/index.php#comments-formreally weird set up so it was crammed and strange. haha. Oh geez. I’m so embarrassed! I get too shy. Thanks for the comment!

April 1, 2012 - 2:25 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I never know what to say when I meet writers either =) When I met Maureen Johnson last year, I took my husband with me, even though he had NO idea who she was and hadn’t read any of her books. He broke the ice, since he could talk to her no problem, and it helped me to be a little less star struck =)

Estelle: In My Mailbox (3/18/12)

March 18, 2012 - 1:55 pm

Melissa - Awesome bunch of books! I couldn’t get through Bumped — I found it super confusing, especially with the terminology. But I loved the Jessica Darling series. It’s always interesting how the same writer can write books that I love, and books that I didn’t love. But that’s one of the wonderful things about reading, right? Enjoy your new books!
