Nailed It: We’re Back (and It’s Summer!)

Hiya! So we took a little unexpected hiatus from our NAILED IT feature (somehow 3 months has passed) but we’ve still been painting our nails and sharing new colors with each other. (Our latest addiction is the Sinful Colors brand you can pick up at the drugstore. The polish was recently highly rated in Consumer […]

Alexa S. - YAY FOR A NEW NAILED IT! And you both totally nailed it with these cover + polish combos. I’m loving all the bright colors, since I tend to gravitate towards those when the weather is warmer!

Nailed It: Tales (and Nails) of Friendship

It’s February! A very special month over here at Rather Be Reading because someone is due to have her baby this month, another someone is celebrating a birthday, and at the end of the month, we celebrate three years since the first time we met! (We’ll let you guess who is who with those first […]

Ellice - I love this feature ladies! Those colors are so pretty (I’m especially loving the sparkle in Cynthia). February is a big month for y’all! Congrats, Magan, on your beautiful little bundle of joy. Happy birthday, Estelle. And congrats to you BOTH for becoming close friends and starting a blog that so many people adore 🙂

February 3, 2014 - 8:26 pm

Kelly - I don’t have anything to add to the conversation, I just wanted to say how much I love this feature! You always nail (no pun intended!) the colours; they always match perfectly!

February 3, 2014 - 4:02 pm

Rachel - I’m so excited to read both of these books! YAY FRIENDSHIPS. For reals though. We need more of that in YA. I have Maybe One Day but I’ve been putting it off because I’m afraid it’s going to turn me into a mess. I hadn’t heard of The Sound of Letting Go before now but that’s totally going on my TBR. I ADORE Myrtle. It’s a very sexy color. Reece is pretty cool too, though I rarely wear purple.

February 3, 2014 - 9:06 am

Betty - Love the nail colors with the books!! I love books that focus on friendship, but I hate reading about cancer so not sure I’ll go for Maybe One Day. 🙁
Happy Birthday, Estelle!!!!!
Congratulations (super soon) Magan!!!! I am so excited for you!!!

February 2, 2014 - 9:18 pm

Alexa S. - YAY FOR FRIENDSHIP! I love having been able to meet and become friends with you both, and am excited for what February will bring. Beautiful covers + beautiful nail polish — it totally works!

February 2, 2014 - 9:16 pm

Kailia Sage - I love this feature so much. I might need to get Julep nail polishes just to see how I like them since everyone is raving about them.

February 2, 2014 - 5:29 pm

alice-jane - I love how you guys decided to focus on friendship novels since I feel like there’s not a lot of books that focus on friendships. Female friendships have defined my life to a certain point and I’ve learned a lot from my friends– through the laughter, the struggles and more.

I love the bokeh and the color scheme for The Sound of Letting Go. The title’s quite nice, too, in my opinion. Also, I can’t imagine the struggles that the characters went through in Maybe One Day but I’m glad that it was a great read, despite the tearjerker.

February 2, 2014 - 11:40 am

Molly | wrapped up in books - I’m excited to check out these books that prominently feature female friendships. Love the nail polish and cover pairings. It’s a fun feature.

February 2, 2014 - 8:06 am

Andi - I love this! Two of my favorite things, books and nail polish. Great colors to go with the books and I think I have most of these colors. 🙂

Nailed It: Thankful for Family

With Thanksgiving Day so so close (we can’t believe it), we’ve decided to change things up once again for NAILED IT and focus on books with great family influences. Sometimes books in YA tend to go heavy on romance and friendships and forget that there are parents at home, but we have always noted to […]

"Time" is now bendy... - Tamara Ireland Stone - […] “It’s been really hard for me to stop thinking about the Time Between Us series. It was one of those unexpected reading experiences for me this year, and I can’t wait to read it again. (How many books can you say that about?). If you are on the prowl for a well-rounded story… be sure to check out these two books.” — Rather Be Reading […]

November 19, 2013 - 9:02 pm

Alexa Y. - I am LOVING the palettes, as usual ladies! These colors are NICE. And I’m so glad you liked that series E, because it’s one of my favorites. And M, I can’t wait to read Ink is Thicker than Water! Hmm, as for books with family in them, I think most Sarah Dessen books do have that aspect. But my favorite example is always Second Chance Summer 🙂

November 19, 2013 - 7:32 pm

Bookworm1858 - I agree that the pink would have seemed more summery than the addition of blue. I love that you both talked about family in your descriptions-that tends to be important to me in a book and I’m pleased that both of these are on my to-read list.

November 19, 2013 - 2:02 pm

Nicole - Love both of these palettes, but especially the first! I still need to read both of these books though! I know, I know. *bows head in shame*. Wonderful post ladies!

November 19, 2013 - 9:34 am

Meg - Love both of these color palettes, and it’s always so refreshing to find supportive parents present in YA! I’m really liking the sound of both books… off to add to my wishlist!

Nailed It: Halloween Edition

Happy October, friends! It’s time for us to discuss book covers and manicures in our monthly Nailed It. This go ’round, instead of choosing an October book release we’re looking forward to, we decided to spice things up by choosing a thriller, horror, or mystery book to fit the mood of Halloween. EEEP. If you’ve […]

Alexa Y. - I haven’t read either of these books yet, but I do love the nail polish colors that you’ve both chosen! I’m not sure which one is my favorite, but I’m leaning towards either Minnie or Brandt. They’re perfect fall colors to me!

October 15, 2013 - 8:34 pm

Ellice - Y’all I just love this feature… It’s different and just so much fun! I haven’t tried Julep nail polish yet… I’ve seen a LOT of people discussing it on twitter, so I will have to change this!

I’m not much of a horror/thriller reader either. I read the Mara Dyer books last year, and those were about as scary as I can handle. I usually read before I go to bed at night, but I had to read those during the day! I’m such a wimp 🙂 haha

October 14, 2013 - 5:08 pm

April Books & Wine - I think I wore Molly the other week.

I love these colors though, nice job matching the colors to the covers!

October 14, 2013 - 3:01 pm

molly @ wrapped up in books - I love this post! Those colors are great.

October 14, 2013 - 5:02 am

Erin - I love your nailed it posts!
I haven’t read either of these but I have been reading ‘Halloween themed’ books over the last month. Out of those that I have read I would recommend suspense novel I Know What You Did Last Summer (Lois Duncan), Mira Grant’s new release Parasite, or The Hole (Guy Burt) if you like more of a psychological thriller. x

October 13, 2013 - 10:11 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - Eeee, both of these color combinations are simply GORGEOUS, you two. Seriously. I don’t really do my nails often, but seeing these combos makes me want to go buy these colors. =) I totally agree about the color of the girl’s skirt on the cover of Another Little Piece- it is so adorable. Also, I love how subdued the colors are for Miss Peregine’s. I haven’t read the book (it seems like I need to pick up more horror too!), but I feel like it matches the overall feel of the book.

Lovely post you two! <3

October 13, 2013 - 6:18 pm

VeganYANerds - Lovely colour choices, ladies! And like you both, I am not a horror fan but I want to read both of these 🙂

October 13, 2013 - 5:23 pm

Jen - AAAHH I am a nail polish whore so I freaking love this post! The colors are perfect, I love the dark grays. Awesome post!

October 13, 2013 - 4:46 pm

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - I feel like I don’t spend enough time trawling the Julep website. But it’s okay because this feature exists. I love the Minnie color so much. And the rest of the ones you ladies picked. Such excellent polish-to-cover matching.

As for the creepiness factor, Miss Peregrine is definitely a good choice. I haven’t read Another Little Pierce but just the font on the cover looks terrifying.

That being said, Halloween or not, I don’t really read that many scary books. Sooooo. *hides*

October 13, 2013 - 1:43 pm

Sarah - Yay! Nailed It’s back! This excites me, mostly because I decided to try Julep because of these posts!

October 13, 2013 - 12:12 pm

Hollie @ Music, Books and Tea - I love both these colour combos! I have Miss Peregrine’s on my list to read for halloween, and I’m also planning on picking up Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry, because it’s not October without a zombie book! (For me, at least.)

October 13, 2013 - 9:59 am

Bookworm1858 - I don’t usually read scary books for Halloween though I’ve seen lots of people who do. I just love the color combos here especially the choice of Another Little Piece to bring some color into the post.

April 21, 2013 - 12:55 pm

Bonnie @ Sweet Tidbits

April 21, 2013 - 12:22 pm

Annie - All the colors for May are gorgeous! I’ve heard great things about Golden, and the colors you picked are so pretty! Can’t wait to get my hands on both the books and the polishes!

April 21, 2013 - 10:20 am

Candice @ The Grown-Up YA - Love both of those color palettes! Very fun and pretty; also can’t wait to read both of these books! I saw the May Julep boxes. Definitely love the 20s themed colors!

April 21, 2013 - 10:01 am

Bookworm1858 - Great picks for May-I want to read both of those books and love the inspiration for matching nails.

ashley - I like juilanne!

April 8, 2013 - 10:29 am

Margie aka The Bumble Girl - Ooo, what a sweet idea! I love all the colors so much! I usually go for pinks like in Magan’s picks, but lately I’ve been thinking so much about teals and sparkly stuff, makes me smile 🙂

April 7, 2013 - 6:34 pm

Ashley - So excited for the Lauren Graham book! And those colors! Amy is an Ashley color!

April 7, 2013 - 5:06 pm

Ashley @ FireStarBooks - I loooove Portia! Glittery and simple!

April 7, 2013 - 3:18 pm

Allie Lewis - I really like Julianne and Helen for everyday, but Amy would be a welcome change of pace with its vividness. It’s perfect for summer.

April 6, 2013 - 11:42 pm

MelodyJ - I like Rose and Amy.

April 6, 2013 - 9:44 pm

Marie - I really Portia!

April 4, 2013 - 9:19 pm

Cee - I love the Rose and the Amy color.

April 4, 2013 - 11:30 am

shokufeh - Even without it being by Lauren Graham, I’d be all over that “Someday, Someday, Maybe.” But because it is…. And that Susan is a pretty shade.

April 4, 2013 - 1:50 am

Lucía Valencia - I loooove Amy!

April 3, 2013 - 7:58 pm

daphne - i like amy & rose the best. i recently subscribed to Julep, too, and I’m anxiously waiting for my first set to come in.

April 3, 2013 - 7:06 pm

April 3, 2013 - 7:05 pm

Krispy - This is a brilliant feature! I love books and nail polish too, and the colors you chose are perfect for each book!

I love the sets you put together. If I had to choose 1 color, I’d probably go with PORTIA since I’m partial to blues, but I do love the pop of ROSE too!

April 3, 2013 - 2:01 pm

Cynthia - Great new feature! I love it!! and I actually love that cover of Someday, someday, Maybe. I love that it’s a little bit foggy but it makes the red coat stand out a lot. Thanks for the giveaway guys! I’m slowly becoming a nail polish addict myself. =)

April 3, 2013 - 12:55 pm

Maggie @ Young Adult Anonymous - This feature is so fun! And I LOVE the colors you chose. I think I need to join all the cool kids and become a Julep Maven. I would pick Julianne.

April 3, 2013 - 12:38 pm

Tiff @ Mostly YA Lit - AMAZING feature. I’m reading Someday, Someday, Maybe next week, and I’m super excited, so I’d have to choose one of those colours. I can’t decide, though…maybe Helen or Julianne?

Great picks for colours! Can’t wait to read your reviews!

April 3, 2013 - 12:15 pm

Bonnie - The Boyfriend App color collection is PERFECTION. Love those colors too! I have never heard of Julep before… going to have to go check them out. 🙂

April 3, 2013 - 10:46 am

Sharon @ The Book Barbies - I absolutely love the idea behind this giveaway, ladies! I am super excited for BOTH of these books, and the colors match them perfectly!

My favorite color featured above is probably Amy, because it’s such a fun shade of blue. I really like all the colors, though, honestly, especially Julianne. So lovely!

April 3, 2013 - 9:14 am

Helen Moulden - You’d have thought I’d choose Helen, but nope it has to be Rose!

April 3, 2013 - 5:47 am

Eszter @ Anneish Imaginary Adventures - I’m so happy to have found other kindred spirits! Nail Polish + Books my favourite obsessions too! 😀 Oh, but the decision is soooooo hard: I think I’ll go for Portia! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this awesome giveaway!

April 2, 2013 - 10:56 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I love ALL of these colors (and this new feature) but I think I’m most drawn to Helen. Or Rose. Or Julianne. Crap! I like Magan’s picks, too, but I can’t stop looking at the Estelle’s mostly because I loved that book and the cover looks so pretty with the colors right next to it.

I think I’m saying Helen is my favorite. But really I just love them all.

April 2, 2013 - 9:49 pm

Tammy - Portia!

April 2, 2013 - 9:07 pm

April 2, 2013 - 3:44 pm

Rachel - Oh my gosh, this is my FAVORITE blog feature ever. I don’t share my nailpolish love with others very often because I’m slightly horrified with how much of it I buy, but seriously, this is such a great idea! I really like both of the combinations your girls came up with. My favorite color is definitely Susan. I’m a pink polish girl 🙂

April 2, 2013 - 3:23 pm

Andrea Eisenhour - Picking one of these colors is like trying to pick a favorite star in the sky! But if I must, Id pick Amy! (Also the name of one of my best friends!!)

April 2, 2013 - 2:16 pm

Alexa Y. - This post is all kinds of awesome – I hope you know that. The colors you’ve picked out are GORGEOUS. I did my nails in Helen last Saturday and it’s such a beautiful shade! (Plus, I totally walked the Brooklyn Bridge with it on my nails, so that’s cool too!)

And Mandee ROCKS. She’s the book mani goddess.

April 2, 2013 - 2:05 pm

Mallory L. - First, I am SO happy to have found yall’s blog! Books + Nail polish-doesn’t get much better than that!

Lisa - Okay, this? This is AMAZING.

April 2, 2013 - 11:16 am

Ghenet Myrthil - I love this feature! I’ve heard a lot about Julip nail polishes but have never owned any. My favorite of these is the rose. If I don’t win this giveaway, I will need to splurge on it anyway! 🙂

April 2, 2013 - 10:32 am

Tara - This feature is SO you guys! I leave the nails to a professional because I completely suck at it, so I envy your polish collections and ability to do your own nails 😉

April 2, 2013 - 9:01 am

Ginger @ GReads! - You gals are so cute & clever! Love this new feature idea 🙂 If I won the giveaway, I think I’d choose Helen. But really I love all the colors! Thank you 🙂

April 2, 2013 - 8:56 am

Cari - OH I LOVE THE ROSE! Thanks for the wonderful and unique giveaway!

April 2, 2013 - 7:46 am

Tara @ Hobbitsies - Yes! Love this! I’ve been thinking about doing something like this on Pinterest but as per usual, you girls nailed it (HAHA pun totally intended) much better than I would have. I’ve been skipping Julep boxes for the past few months in favour of other nail polishes, but I just might need to go order Julianne!

Also, Estelle, I’m super excited to read your review of Someday, Someday Maybe! I’ll be digging into that soon as well and I’m so excited!

April 2, 2013 - 4:13 am

Olivia - This is such a cute idea! I like Julianne. Simple, classy, understated (maybe) but pretty. I didn’t get the hype about Julep until I recently tried some of their nail polish. OH MY NAILS, they’re awesome!

April 2, 2013 - 2:56 am

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - I’ve been intrigued by all these Julep polish pictures popping up everywhere! I think they have so many pretty colors! My favorite is Susan. April 2, 2013 - 1:11 am

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Such a cute idea! But, then again, I would expect nothing less from the two of you because you’re both so adorable :). I gotta go with Magan’s picks, mainly because my toenails are pink 🙂

April 2, 2013 - 12:11 am

Stormy @ Book.Blog.Bake. - Definitely a fan of the rose color the most. I like nail polish in theory, but never feel like spending money on it, so I always go for the classic red.

April 2, 2013 - 12:08 am

elena - i LOOOOVE this feature! nail polish is one thing i’ll always have an abundant of so no need for me to enter this giveaway. 🙂 the colours are so pretty!! i’m excited for lauren graham’s book.
