Befriended: Discussing Sibling Friendships with Kasie West

When a book is infused with a strong helping of sibling relationships and parental involvement, I’m sold. Those are two strong bonuses for me because they add a layer of realism to the story. But Kasie West took my love a step further by making the four siblings in On the Fence the closest, most tight-knit group […]

Magan - Courtney, you HAVE TO READ On the Fence soon! Definitely, definitely do! Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you love the book. xo

July 22, 2014 - 4:00 pm

Magan - Cassie, YES! Everything felt so genuinely authentic! You nailed it! 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks for your comment, sweets!

July 22, 2014 - 3:58 pm

Magan - Sara, I love sibling relationships, too! I’m getting closer and closer to my siblings as we get older. I realllly hope that I can raise children who are close and BFFs. That’s one of my greatest hopes. 🙂

July 19, 2014 - 12:46 pm

Sara (of The Page Sage) - I love sibling relationships in books! I’m really close with my older brother so I can really connect with characters who are close with their siblings.

July 11, 2014 - 10:03 am

Cassie (Happy Book Lovers) - I absolutely adored this book and LOVED the family dynamic. I have one brother but grew up with about 8 cousins (all boys) within 3 years of my age. So we were constantly fighting and rough housing. I related so so well to Charlie, and I still can’t get over how fun the beginning was with the bets and drinking gross stuff! 🙂

July 9, 2014 - 11:21 pm

Courtney @ Courtney Reads A Lot - Knowing that On the Fence features a great family dynamic makes me want to read it even more. Being an only child, I never understood the connection shared between siblings, and so I really enjoy reading about that bond and realizing what it would be like to have a sibling. Lovely post!

July 9, 2014 - 10:20 pm

Magan - Hazel, thanks so much for your comment! I loved their relationship, too! So very much.

I’m getting closer to my siblings as we grow older; I’m 4 and 6 years older than them and got married super young so for a long while, I’ve just been in a different stage of life than them. Now things are leveling out a bit more. Sibling relationships definitely teach you how to be selfless; couldn’t agree with you more.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I loved reading your comment. xo

July 9, 2014 - 9:39 am

Hazel @ Stay Bookish - I loved On The Fence, especially reading about Charlie and her brothers. <3

IRL, I wouldn't say I have the most outstanding sibling relationship but I definitely get how sisters can sometimes be our closest confidante. And as the older one between me and my sister, I totally know how sibling relationships teach you to be selfless.

What a wonderful post from Katie! And I just love this feature, Megan! 🙂

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Yes yes yesssssss I’m so glad you loved it too! I just thought this was so adorable. Super cute, super swoony and I LOVED the family dynamic too! I love brothers in books for some reason. I have no idea why. I also really just loved the tomboy aspect! I think it’s so cute and I identify with that more than girly things. I love Kasie West’s characters and her romances and her families and AH. I preordered this book too!

June 18, 2014 - 11:47 pm

Alexa S. - Aww, yay, I’m glad you enjoyed On the Fence! It’s a super cute book, and, like you, I absolutely LOVED Charlie’s relationship with her brothers. (And seriously, I want five kids but I have no idea if I’m physically or emotionally capable of that yet. We shall see!) I haven’t read The Distance Between Us either, but I definitely want to!

June 18, 2014 - 8:10 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I literally just finished reading this 15 minutes ago. I definitely liked it (and I could see how you would want four kids after having read this 🙂 ) but I wasn’t madly in love either. I didn’t like it as much as The Distance Between Us (you must read it asap!). Maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind, but I wasn’t able to really, really connect to Charlie. I liked her, although it took some time for me to warm up to her, and of course I was rooting for her. But I don’t know, I just could’t connect.

There were some scenes that I just though were SOOO cute, though. Like when Braden and Charlie were playing soccer at the end. Too cute 🙂

June 18, 2014 - 12:48 pm

Cynthia - I really loved The Distance Between Us too. I pretty much love all that Kasie West has written. Will be adding this one to my list! =)

June 18, 2014 - 10:19 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I really enjoyed this one, too! Magan, I highly recommend reading The Distance Between Us very very soon since you liked this book so much. I read TDBU last summer and immediately upon finishing I added On the Fence to my TBR list. I had to have more Kasie West contemporary in my reading life!

Re your comment about 4 kids: coming from a household of 4 girls, I can honestly say it’s the best. I wouldn’t change my large family for anything. Yes it was tough and not every moment was the best, but ultimately I am so grateful for my sisters.

Judith - I also wouldn’t mind Santa bringing you If You Find Me, Estelle. (I forgot! Did he?) Did I mention that I like that book? Because I do. It’s pretty good. I guess.

January 6, 2014 - 7:01 pm

Alexa S. - It makes me ridiculously happy to see that SOMETHING STRANGE & DEADLY is on your list, E! You know Rachel and I absolutely LOVED that series, and I hope you do too once you get a chance to read it. You’ll also have to let me know if you get Goodbye to All That — I have it but haven’t read it yet!

As for you M, I think you’ll enjoy Crash Into You. Even though it’s not my favorite of the McGarry books, it’s still pretty fun to read! Plus, the car and racing parts are awesome.

December 27, 2013 - 12:41 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Yippee for Crash Into You and Pivot Point! Those are both such good reads 🙂 Andddd I own If You Find Me and Something Strange and Deadly. I should probably get on reading those! Can’t wait to see if Santa brought you what you wanted!

December 25, 2013 - 8:35 am

alisa selene - Merry Christmas! I so want ‘Crash Into You’!

December 24, 2013 - 4:11 pm

Candice - With the exception of Something Strange and Deadly (which is fab, btw) I haven’t read any of these! I’d love a copy of The Art of Wishing; very nearly put this on my own list today! Hope Santa is good to both of you this year! Merry Christmas!

December 24, 2013 - 12:59 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Sex & Violence, yay! I hope Estelle gets this so we can talk about it! And If you Find Me, Losing Hope, and Pivot Point were all favorite 2013 reads for me! Merry Christmas ladies!

December 24, 2013 - 12:46 pm

Lucy - I spy two books that I suspect will be on my year-end favorites list – If You Find Me and Sex and Violence. And Oh! Crash Into You and Losing Hope are awesome too.

Hope Santa is very good to both of you this year. Happy holidays, Estelle and Magan!

December 24, 2013 - 8:32 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Merry Christmas Eve ladies!! I hope “Santa” (aka husbands lol) bring see this post too 😉 Great picks!

December 24, 2013 - 3:01 am

Chrissi Reads - I loved Losing Hope, Crash Into You and Pivot Point. I hope Santa brings you these books or that you get your hands on them soon. Happy Christmas 🙂

December 24, 2013 - 2:42 am

Jen @ Books and Other Happy Ever Afters - I actually own a few of these on my Kindle, but I hear that the physical copy of CRASH INTO YOU is gorgeous, so I would love a copy of that one too! And I can imagine THE ART OF WISHING being all sorts of pretty, too. All of these are great Christmas gifts to wish for, I’m crossing my fingers for you both! 🙂

December 24, 2013 - 1:55 am

Sara (of The Page Sage) - Something Strange and Deadly!! I really (selfishly) hope you get that book so we can talk about it after you read it! 🙂 Pivot Point sounds really great- I shamefully haven’t read it either.

Hope you have have a Merry Christmas and that you get all the books on your wishlist! 🙂

December 24, 2013 - 1:36 am

Nicole - Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Mansfield Park (notice a theme??)

December 24, 2013 - 12:52 am

Aly @ My Heart Hearts Books - Pivot Point, Crash Into You and Something Strange & Deadly!!!! I haven’t read the other books on your list but I can’t personally vouch for those. But I hope you get some or any of the books on your list!

Aly @ My Heart Hearts BooksMy TTT

December 24, 2013 - 12:49 am

Jen @ Pop! Goes The Reader - Estelle: I’m quite certain only dolphins and dogs could hear me when I saw The Art Of Wishing on your Christmas wishlist and let out a resounding yelp. What can I say? I just ADORE that novel! Here’s hoping Santa remembers to bring you a copy as I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on it. I really do think you would enjoy it! 🙂
Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas!

July 7, 2013 - 10:27 pm

Jennifer Dysart - Loving Gretchen, it’s so wearable for any occasion!

July 7, 2013 - 6:35 pm

Candice @ The Grown-Up YA - LOVE the Gretchen color! All three colors for The Distance Between Us (one of the books I’m DYING to read) are beautiful, but that one just seems like a great neutral color for year round!

July 7, 2013 - 6:08 pm

Joli @ Actin' Up with Books - Oooh, I would love Trixie.

July 6, 2013 - 7:34 pm

Ashley @ Ashley Loves Books - I’m drawn towards Diana, but more than 50% of my polish collection are reds! (And I have a large polish collection, trust me haha) I don’t actually wear orange, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE wearing it on my nails so I love Ginger! Trixie is on my wishlist for the Halloween months, somehow I think it would fit super well during then.

July 5, 2013 - 11:30 pm

Dee'z Dazzling Designs - All the colors are beautiful but I’d have to say Ginger is my favorite.

July 5, 2013 - 8:49 pm

Rebecca @ Reading Wishes - I already commented but forgot to say while I love them all, Trixie and Stella are my favourites 😉

July 5, 2013 - 10:42 am

Cecelia - It’s close between Trixie and Gretchen (they’re very different!), but I think Trixie wins today. I’m feeling sparkly.

July 2, 2013 - 9:33 pm

Angela - Am very interested in either Trixie or Raven, lol. I just got into nail polish and love that there is such a big community with so much creativity going on!! Am slowly building my collection 😀 So many colors, brands and the perfect accent choice!

July 2, 2013 - 5:17 pm

Daphne - i like raven the best and i really wanna read both those books 🙂

July 2, 2013 - 3:00 pm

Rachel - Great pairings once again. Looooveeee the ones for The Distance Between Us. In general, I LOVE Trixie. I love flashy nail polishes because I think they look great with black and I wear LOTS of black in the winter. And the summer. Silver is just totally my thing. I also like Ginger, but I probably wouldn’t ever wear it because orange and I don’t mix. It’s pretty to look at, though!

July 2, 2013 - 1:56 pm

Claira - I’m loving Gretchen and Diana!

July 2, 2013 - 11:35 am

Gina - Trixie is TO DIE FOR! I hope I win! 😀

July 2, 2013 - 11:32 am

Juliana - I love Diana!

July 2, 2013 - 10:13 am

Courtney @ The Lit Girl - I love the three colors for Truly Madly Deeply! Beautiful picks!

July 1, 2013 - 5:35 pm

Dash - I love the reds Diana or Stella.

July 1, 2013 - 3:19 pm

Tammy - I always love a great basic nude.

July 1, 2013 - 2:04 pm

Summer - I only noticed afterwards that this was for U.S. only, so please ignore my entry.

July 1, 2013 - 1:47 pm

Summer - I so love the idea of matching your nails with the book you’re reading, super cute and creative. I’ve been very into oranges and corals, and anything in that range lately so I think Ginger would be my favorite.

July 1, 2013 - 1:36 pm

elena - Love these covers and colors!! I hope my library gets The Distance Between Us and now I’m inspired to paint my nails. 🙂

July 1, 2013 - 11:37 am

Judith - How have I never seen this feature before?! I loooove it! I buy way too much nailpolish, so I adore everything that has to do with that. Both of these combinations are so pretty, though the second one is definitely more for me. Love the fierce colors! I’ll be looking forward to more of these posts (and probably scrolling back through others :).

July 1, 2013 - 10:54 am

Alexa Y. - Am I allowed to say that I love all these colors a whole lot? They’re basically all the colors I would ever want to put on my nails lol. But let’s see, my favorites are GINGER and TRIXIE. What can I say – I’m a sucker for shiny things!

July 1, 2013 - 10:36 am

Tara - I love ALL of those colors! I think my fave might be Diana–it’s just very summery and pretty. Thanks for including my review of TMD 🙂

July 1, 2013 - 6:22 am

Ashton - I really want all of the nail polishes and books. I especially like Gretchen. It’s a nice color for everyday.

July 1, 2013 - 2:11 am

DannyBookworm - What a super duper cute idea!°!! Love this and the polishes look so awesome and pretty 🙂

July 1, 2013 - 2:00 am

Rebecca @ Reading Wishes - Looking forward to both of theses releases, especially TDBU since I read Pivot Point last week and loved it! I love these polishes and thought I have the bad habit of biting my nails, it’s something I want to work on because I do LOVE to paint my nails and yes to a vegan nail polish, woot! I’m not vegan but I”m vegetarian and I only like to buy cruelty free products so I’d love to try Zoya. Amazing post, guys!

July 1, 2013 - 12:17 am

Bookworm1858 - Great picks-I love seeing what covers you choose and what colors to represent them. My favorite is Diana!

June 30, 2013 - 10:25 pm

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - Gah, I seriously LOVE these posts!! I love love love both match ups. The color Trixie is SO pretty, it’s like metallic! Ginger also looks a bit metallic, which is just gorgeous. And Stella is such a pretty color all around. <3

Awesome, thanks for sharing, you two!!

June 30, 2013 - 8:55 pm

tabithasbookblog - I love that you guys are nail polish fanatics as well!! My collection is getting out of hand, but there are just So many colors to try! And brands, and shades of colors, and different finishes. AH. I really like nail polish.

Anyways – I think I’d choose either Gretchen or Trixie – I like my nail polish to stand out because I wear mostly neutrals.

And now – i’ve given you my life story. Thanks for the giveaway!
