Big Kids’ Table: 2014 Reflections

Another year almost done. Are they all going to go as fast as this one? I sure hope not because I think part of my brain is still hanging out in the spring. Ha! It’s been another interesting year of Big Kids’ Table feature. Unlike many other blog features I see, I still haven’t been […]

Cee - I have the Rosie Project and Me Before You on my TBR list since like forever. I have Me Before You on my shelf rn, and I feel sooo guilty that I haven’t read it yet. I really need the desire to read them to hit me ASAP. I just want it—humor and emotions. Give it to me!

December 16, 2014 - 10:48 pm

Stephanie at The Insouciant Sophisticate - What did take you so long with The Rosie Project and Me Before You? Haha. Such great reads and two of my personal recent faves.

December 16, 2014 - 12:36 pm

Asheley (@BookwormAsheley) - I think my favorite thing about Big Kids’ Table is that no two posts are ever the same! I’ve loved it hard every time I’ve seen it and I’m sure I’ll love it so much every time I see it in the future. I added a couple to my to-read on Goodreads and a few on my library list as well. Once again, thank you for bringing a few titles to my attention that I had never seen before (: Burial Rites was one of my two favorites this year, so glad you enjoyed it.

December 15, 2014 - 3:31 pm

Daphne - I can’t wait to get to goodreads & do some adding to the TBR.

December 15, 2014 - 2:06 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I’ve never read A Little Princess, but it’s been on my TBR for ages! And The Rosie Project was just so good right. I should read Her Holiday Man!

December 15, 2014 - 10:20 am

Brianna - A bunch of these are on my to read list. It took me a while to get into After I Do, but I ended up loving it.

December 15, 2014 - 9:39 am

Leah - I STILL haven’t read The Rosie Project! A sin of the worst kind, I know – especially since I have it on my shelf! It’s also killing me since I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about it (and even BILL GATES recently mentioned how much he loves the sequel). No excuses.
I fell HARD for Jojo in 2013 and this year was all about going through her backlist. So far I’ve read four (and own three others) and have absolutely loved every single one.
I SPY A HOLIDAY NOVEL. Someday I’ll give it and finally take the plunge. Your mini-reviews had me ready to dive in!
A coworker loved – LOVED! – The Good Girl and I’m super eager to get my hands on some Taylor Jenkins Reid!
Still delighted you loved STN so much (and thinking of the next book to push on you ♥!). Burial Rites is another book I bought because so many bloggers loved it…and never made time for it. It feels like the perfect novel for cold winter nights though.

Shelve It: Some Books + Pepper

Can you hear the relief that comes with a 3-day weekend? Especially the one that signifies the start of summer? I’ll admit — the weather isn’t exactly summery in NYC right now. J + I spent the day dodging the rain and also commenting on how chilly it was feeling out. I’m hoping as most of […]

Jess @ Gone with the Words - I’m so happy to hear you liked TFIOS movie because I know you didn’t LOVE the book. And the soundtrack IS TOTALLY AMAZING. I bought it and can say there’s only one song I don’t like. 🙂

May 26, 2014 - 1:22 am

Lucy - Ooh you saw TFIOS? I bought my tix but will have to wait until June 6. Glad to hear you liked it!

OMG I loved loved loved Everything Leads to You as well. Yay! Perhaps you will like Hold Still better than the Disenchantments? That is a special book.

The Amazon / Hachette situation is so disheartening. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Hope you have a blast at BEA!
PS. Pretty kitty!

May 25, 2014 - 8:01 pm

April Books & Wine - I am glad TFIOS is good.

I need to read Everything Leads To You.

YAYYYYY BEA!

Also, yay buying books, boo strong arm methods.

May 25, 2014 - 3:24 pm

Lola - No 3 day weekend for me as I live in the netherlands. I can’t visit the real BEA, but I’ll be participating in Armchair BEA. I am really excited as it’s my first time participating.
Also your cat looks adorable. I have four rats and sometimes try to photograph them with my books, but they usually don’t want to sit still.
I haven’t read TFIOS yet and don’t really plan on seeing the movie either. I guess I’ll eventually read it, but I am in no hurry to read it. I am afraid I might enjoy it less, because of all the hype surrounding it.

May 25, 2014 - 3:21 pm

Alexa S. - Hiiiii Pepper! Also, thank you for including a link to my (way too long) post, and for sharing the books you’ve bought! I’m also very intrigued by The One and Only now, as well as Everything Leads To You 🙂 Glad you enjoyed them both!

May 25, 2014 - 1:07 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - I’m relieved to hear that I’m not alone in not LOVING beyond all loves TFIOS, and to know that you can still like the movie without the over the moon feels for the book. And who doesn’t like a good soundtrack?

Come on, NYC! Bring the summer weather!

May 25, 2014 - 9:25 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Hi, Pepper!!
Oh, interesting to hear about TFioS! I wasn’t a mega-fan of the book either but the trailer actually perked up some emotions in me that I didn’t know I had for these characters. I like both of the leads and I think I like Shailene a lot more in a contemporary setting than I do dystopian. I think she’s good for Hazel.
Ohhh my trip to the bookstore was way worse haha. I left with six books (and they don’t have the one I REALLY set out to buy) and a B&N membership. oops. Guess I better take advantage of that 😉
Happy Sunday! Can’t wait to see you next week!!

Alexa S. - When you first told me about this one, I was already interested. But your review has convinced me to click BUY on Amazon, because this sounds delightful! I can’t wait to indulge in reading this one warm day when I feel like indulging in something fun 😉

April 27, 2014 - 5:19 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - EEK! I just saw that I can read this for free on Kindle with the Prime Lending Library. So, all is forgiven, you’re not an enabler and YAY BOOKS!

April 27, 2014 - 5:18 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I kinda hate/love when I come spend time on your blog and then immediately want to go straight to Amazon. You’re enabling my bad buying habits! Anyway, you totally had me interested with the Kinsella and Giffin comparison. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention!

April 26, 2014 - 2:39 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - I saw the length of this before I read your review and I was worried, but I’m glad you addressed that. I think this premise sounds hilarious and just like the kind of chick lit I like. I used to joke that I should give classes in how to write Craigslist ads looking for roommates because so many of the ones I read/received were terrible!

April 25, 2014 - 10:48 pm

elena - yes, when you told me about this, i was totally reminded of sophia kinsella! i used to adoooore her. this sounds so fun and delightful. super excited to read it!

April 25, 2014 - 9:01 pm

Racquel - oh man, this sounds RIGHT UP MY ALLY!!! *added* *purchased* and now to resist reading it this instant because I have a gazillion papers to write and finals to study for. Sad face. But this won’t be in my TBR for long. Im totally gonna start it as soon as Im free. Thanks for putting this on my radar! So happy you liked it and now Im super excited.
