Judith - Oh, Cress! I wish I could just sit here keyboard slamming my feelings, but that might not be the best way to write something coherent as well. But this book is just so good! I love how this series gets better and better with every book and how Marissa Meyer flawlessly adds more brilliant characters to the already large cast. I absolutely adore Cress, and Cress and Thorne, and Cinder and Kai, and Winter! I have a feeling Winter is going to be even better (don’t you love her already?!) and ahhhh. More please!

January 16, 2014 - 2:33 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - IS WINTER THE END?!
I had no idea.

You did SO MUCH BETTER with your review than mine!
(told you so!)

January 16, 2014 - 11:15 am

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Oh my gosh, I AM SO EXCITED TO READ CRESS! And yes, that needed all caps. I’ve been hearing that Cress is just as wonderful as Cinder and Scarlet and that makes me SOOO happy. I can’t wait to see how to handles the growing cast of characters and the whole world. So freaking excited.

January 16, 2014 - 1:25 am

Lucy - I’m going to have to read/listen this one and Scarlet back to back. I loved Cinder so I don’t know why I”m dragging my heels to catch up!

January 15, 2014 - 6:53 pm

Alexa S. - I love how your review so perfectly describes your fangirl feelings towards Cress! My review, which I’ve just finished, devolved into fangirling… and it certainly didn’t do the book justice as much as yours did. Everything you’ve said here is an opinion I absolutely agree with! Cress was FANTASTIC, and I’m certainly looking forward to reading Winter (though the wait may kill me)!

January 15, 2014 - 12:22 pm

Anna - LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT

January 15, 2014 - 8:22 am

Bailie @ The Hemborg Wife - Ahhhhhh I cannot wait to get this, I think I have to wait a bit longer for it to come out in Europe but I am sure I will read it in a day so a little wait is ok!

January 15, 2014 - 7:26 am

Amy @ bookgoonie - I can’t wait. Marissa is genius.

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I didn’t read this because I STILL haven’t read Cinder yet but I’m going to. I promise. Especially because you gave Scarlet a READ THIS NOW rating 🙂

February 3, 2013 - 4:53 pm

Tara - This book just left me with all the feelings! I loved how Cinder’s and Scarlet’s stories intertwined and I cannot wait for Cress. Thanks again for letting me borrow 🙂

February 1, 2013 - 9:21 pm

Kelly - I’ve only seen glowing reviews for this, which makes me want to re-read Cinder so I can be as prepared as possibly to enjoy it! And a brooding bad boy? My fate is sealed!

January 31, 2013 - 11:08 am

Cynthia - Dying to read this one!! I loved Cinder and can’t wait to find out what happens to her and Kai in this sequel. Also eager to meet these new characters, I’ve been hearing lots about Wolf. =D

January 30, 2013 - 7:30 pm

Suz @ A Soul Unsung - Oh wow! Now, I’m really super excited and can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of Scarlet, if it’s all of that and so much more! *g*

I know that I instantaneously fell head over feet for Cinder and broody boys are one of the best things ever written in fiction, true facts.

Fantastic review!

January 30, 2013 - 3:28 pm

Stormy - I cannot wait for this book. I thought at the beginning of 2013 that Divergent #3 was going to be my most anticipated book of the year, but at this point I realize, nope, I’m WAY more excited for Scarlet. And like you, I also always want more Kai!

January 30, 2013 - 3:27 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I couldn’t agree more with you about everything you just said about Scarlet. I loved how Meyer weaves these stories together. And Wolf was such an interesting character. I’m also not exactly sure how I feel about him. I mean, I love him, but also I am a but wary (and maybe even scared) of him as well. I hate waiting for Cress. And I have a long wait on my hands 🙁

January 30, 2013 - 2:18 pm

Annette - I kind of only skimmed your review, because I’m about 1/2 way through Scarlet — but I’m really excited to finish it! I’m loving it too!

January 30, 2013 - 11:02 am

Rachel - I haven’t read this yet (obviously), but the intertwined stories is what has me impressed the most/the main reason why I’m looking forward to this book. I liked Cinder, but I wasn’t the hugest fan of some of the characters, so I’m looking forward to having the same story from Cinder, with some new characters as well. Great review!

January 30, 2013 - 10:44 am

Alexa Y. - I absolutely loved Scarlet (and thank you again for letting me borrow it!). I think Marissa Meyer is wonderful writer, and I love how she’s turning these classic fairytales into something new and fun and modern. I can’t wait to get my hands on a finished copy – and to read the next installment when it FINALLY releases!

January 30, 2013 - 9:19 am

Janita @ Book, Interrupted - SO EXCITED! OMGOMG I just ordered this and it’s getting sent to me soon and I am freaking out so much. I just started reading Cinder all over again to prepare for the awesomeness. Everyone who has reviewed this has loved it! So glad that you liked it too! EEK!!

January 30, 2013 - 6:04 am

Lori - So happy to hear you loved it! I have no idea where she’s going to take us with this series and I love that.

January 30, 2013 - 5:47 am

Hemborgwife - I have had this is my amazon cart to pre-order for ages and this is really prompting me to actually make the purchase!

January 30, 2013 - 12:53 am

Bookworm1858 - I always want more Kai too! Jen Ryland/YA Romantics initially freaked me out, making me think there was a love triangle (with Thorne) but I’ve now read Scarlet and am relaxed on the Cinder/Kai front even if the evil queen is trying to get in the way. So glad to read someone’s thoughts who adores Kai like I do!

February 2013 Young Adult Book Releases

Hi, friends! The first month of 2013 is almost over. You know what that means? Looking forward to a new month bursting with amazing releases! The Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano is coming to an end (sigh), but we get to meet Scarlet in the Lunar Chronicles and see what Juliette is up to […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I already bought Unravel Me, but I’m also really looking forward to Out of the Easy and Pivot Point! Both sound interesting, and I’ve heard good things about both so that’s also really nice!

January 25, 2013 - 12:56 pm

Cassie - My oh my. SO MANY BOOKS. I read Unravel Me and adored it. I can’t speak highly enough about Tahereh Mafi’s writing. I can’t wait for The Ruining, Out of the Easy, The Reece Malcom List and How to Lead a Life of Crime!

January 25, 2013 - 12:27 pm

Rachel - Oh man, so many good books out this month! I’m excited for the rest of the world to read Unravel Me, as I finished that one recently. I’m looking forward to Pivot Point, The Ruining, and Hysteria.

January 25, 2013 - 11:01 am

Alexa Y. - There are SO many good books out this month, but I’m particularly looking forward to Unravel Me and Scarlet! I need to do a re-read of Scarlet once I get my own copy…

January 25, 2013 - 8:08 am

Jen - Well, we already discussed Unravel Me at length, so you already know my thoughts on that one 🙂 Can’t wait for the finished copy so I can do a thorough and heart-pounding re-read!

September 20, 2012 - 6:38 am

Lori - I agree with everything that you said! I was pretty apprehensive going into Cinder. Cyborgs and Cinderella? Uh..what? But OMG it works! I was swept off my feet. I’m so anxious for Scarlet now.

September 18, 2012 - 9:37 pm

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - YES! Magan, I’m so glad you loved Cinder! I adored this book the moment I started it, and I’m so excited by your review! It makes me want to read it all over again. I’m starting on Scarlet soon, and can’t wait!

September 18, 2012 - 12:34 pm

Jamie - I think I need to read this one because of your review PLUS so many of my most trusted bloggers are here in the comments raving! I just didn’t think it was a ME book.

September 18, 2012 - 2:13 am

Jess C - I also enjoyed Cinder. At first I thought Meyer was trying to trick us by making us think we knew what was happening, but I was to swept up by the story to notice.

September 17, 2012 - 10:53 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF THE ENTIRE YEAR.

Seriously, I fell in love with Cinder, and I’m so glad that you convinced me that I should read it straight away. It is BRILLIANT. (And thanks for lending me Scarlet – equally brilliant!)

Everyone needs to listen to you and just read Cinder NOW.

September 17, 2012 - 7:08 pm

Kristen Evey - “You know those books you see pop up a TON on review blogs? You read incredible reviews for the book and add it to your TBR list on Goodreads, but somehow it takes you months to pick it up?

Yup, that was me with Cinder.”

This is still me. I even bought it. It’s sitting on my bookshelf looking pretty and enticing. It’s not that I don’t want to read it. I do. I want to read it A LOT! But, I want to savor it and don’t want it to be over. Haha. Doesn’t make sense, but, there it is. I keep telling myself once I’m done with my library books I’ll read it, but then I keep checking out NEW library books. Sigh. I will read it soon, I swear. Great review, btw!

September 17, 2012 - 6:46 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - *happy dance* It makes me insanely happy when someone loves a book I loved, but even moreso when I had the pleasure of giving that book to them!

Awesome review, Magan! As always. 🙂

September 17, 2012 - 5:51 pm

VeganYANerds - I so know what you mean and this book is the same for me, I’ve seen it around on so many blogs but part of me just didn’t think it was for me. However I do like the idea of a Cinderella re-telling that is original and the fact that the characters are well done makes this appeal to me. Great review, Magan, I promise to read this sometime soon!

September 17, 2012 - 5:35 pm

Magan - YAYYY, Anna! YIPPIE! This book evokes the happiest of thoughts in me, so I’m glad you feel the same way! 🙂

September 17, 2012 - 5:35 pm

Magan - Tara, it was totally YOUR review that screamed READ THIS RIGHT NOW to me. I had no choice but to pick it up after I read your review. (Thanks for that!) I hope you L.O.V.E. Scarlet!

September 17, 2012 - 5:34 pm

Magan - Holly, I decided yesterday when I went to the library that I’m going to create a modified TBR list on Goodreads — one that includes WANT THIS NOW books so I don’t have to scroll hopelessly through my list when I’m searching for things that strike my fancy. Please, please read Cinder soon!

September 17, 2012 - 5:33 pm

Magan - Rachel, YES — exactly YES to what you said. Maybe because it’s written in third person I felt like I knew more than the character did and it was kind of like keeping a secret? I dunno. Something about having the knowledge in advance just worked for me!

September 17, 2012 - 5:32 pm

Magan - Karen, I’m so glad you’re going to continue on with Scarlet. (It’s ah-mazing & I loved it just as much as Cinder). Hope you love it too!

September 17, 2012 - 5:31 pm

Magan - LISA! LISA! DO IT. As in soon. I loved it so, so much. Not one day — ASAP.

September 17, 2012 - 4:59 pm

Lisa - I am one of those blogger you’re screaming at to stop everything and read it now! Because it’s just sitting on my little shelf.

One day!

September 17, 2012 - 4:28 pm

Karen - I feel bad that I didn’t like this one as much as everyone else did. I didn’t dislike it – I just wasn’t as captivated as others seem to be.
Having said that, I’m still interested in Scarlett to see where the story goes.

September 17, 2012 - 4:19 pm

Rachel @ hello, chelly - I felt the same way about this book! I read it recently too and I wish I had read it much much sooner.

I also agree about guessing where things were headed. Usually I prefer being surprised.. but in this case, when my suspicious were correct I wanted to jump up and down in excitement. I loved being right, loved Kai, him and Cinder, so many to list.

Great review 🙂

September 17, 2012 - 3:06 pm

Holly - I am the same way! I actually still haven’t read Cinder! I always add books to my “want to read” list, but for some reason, when I go to the bookstore, I pick up 10 other books, except the ones on my list! But I’ll definitely have to pick Cinder up now! This was such a great review! 🙂

September 17, 2012 - 11:11 am

Tara - I was the EXACT same way with this book! I bought it at a signing ages ago and just recently got around to reading it. Why did I wait so long?! Now I’m just super anxious for Scarlet (hurry up February)! Such a great review Magan 🙂

September 17, 2012 - 10:58 am

Anna - I love it I love it I love it soooooooo much your review made me sing and dance a little in my head at my desk.

Magan: Shelve It 07/29/2012

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - First of all, CINDER! I’m such a fan after finishing the book – it’s absolutely brilliant. Can’t wait to read Scarlet!

Also, I enjoyed Burn for Burn even though it was filled with a lot of things that I may not have necessarily agreed with. It was fun for me to read though!

July 30, 2012 - 9:36 pm

Sash from Sash and Em - Makes sure to have cupcakes on hand when you’re reading Bittersweet. You *will* crave them! 🙂

July 30, 2012 - 3:11 pm

Asheley (@BookwormAsheley) - I just read my first E Scott book myself, but it was Miracle. I liked it. I LOVED Cinder but it seems like forever ago that I read it. I need to reread it before Scarlet comes out. Great stuff!

July 29, 2012 - 11:06 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - P.S. And happy anniversary! Eight years – wow! That’s longer that my husband and I have even been together!

July 29, 2012 - 11:05 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - YAY! Glad to hear that you’re enjoying Cinder! It took me a little while to warm up to the story, but once I got sucked in, I couldn’t put it down until I was done. I LOVED Cinder’s little robot friend (whose name is escaping me at the moment).

Thanks for posting that you borrowed The Rivals — I finished reading it last week, and completely forgot to a) write a review and b) update Goodreads! Whooooooooops… hope that you like the book!

July 29, 2012 - 8:57 pm

elena - I agree about reading too many books in the same genre at the same time! I try to break it up, like I read a sci-fi then fantasy then paranormal etc. I’m so excited for Burn for Burn. I think I requested it on Netgalley then cancelled it since it took awhile to get back to me. I can’t wait to see the fun things you have coming up. I admire you & her husband for eating so healthily! I do not have the self-control for that and you definitely will get heaps of cupcakes from Bittersweet. Happy reading! 🙂

July 29, 2012 - 8:33 pm

Keertana @ Ivy Book Bindings - I loved Bittersweet and can’t wait to see what you think of Burn for Burn! Happy Reading!(:

Brittani - Awesome set of books! I absolutely loved Bittersweet! It was such a cute read! I hope you enjoy all your books! 🙂

July 29, 2012 - 6:08 pm

Anna - PS: OH YES and yay to Cinder and Bittersweet too!

July 29, 2012 - 6:08 pm

Anna - Eeee I feel like we’re actually hanging out because you talk to me directly in this blog. Whee! And, yes, I am THRILLED re: Stealing Heaven. I really hope you love it <3

July 29, 2012 - 5:41 pm

VeganYANerds - Firstly I am a bit jealous of your beachy weekend, I hope you guys are having a lovely time 🙂

Secondly, yay for library books! I’ve only read one Elizabeth Scott (Something, Maybe) but I definitely want to read more and I’ve had the Viola book on my to-read list for a while.

I thought the same thing about Bittersweet, the cupcakes hooked me but you’re not missing anything! I baked cupcakes for a picnic yesterday and the sugar hit was terrible after just ONE! So stick with your clean eating 😉

July 29, 2012 - 5:24 pm

The Bumble Girl - Hi Magan! Happy Anniversary to you and hubs! Hope you’re having a fab time 🙂
I read Keep Holding On and loved how Susane told this story – I think you’ll like it too!
I need to get Cinder! The cover is amazing and I need to see this version of it!
Enjoy your reads! I look forward to seeing what you think of them!!!

July 29, 2012 - 11:51 am

Aneeqah @ My Not So Real Life - Cinder!! That one is so good. I read it waay back in December, but I’m still always ranting about how good it is! 😉 Burn For Burn sounds like such a fun read- a book about revenge? I’m totally sold. Bittersweet is such a cute read, although you definitely should have some cupcakes around when you read it, it definitely makes you super hungry! [My mouth is watering just thinking about it…] Anyways, fantastic haul Magan! <3 Enjoy your anniversary!

July 29, 2012 - 10:57 am

Tara - CINDER!!! I’m so glad you picked this one up and I am a little (or maybe a lot) jealous you have Scarlet to read right after! I want to hear ALL about it when you’re finished 🙂

July 29, 2012 - 10:36 am

kailia @ Reading the Best of the Best - I absolutely love Elizabeth Scotts books but I haven’t read this one yet! I have yet to read Cinder and I can’t wait to get Burn for Burn in my hands!

~Kailia @ Reading the Best

July 29, 2012 - 10:27 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Anna recommended Stealing Heaven to me too, & I absolutely LOVED it! I think it’s a great E Scott book to start off with. If you like that one, may I suggest The Unwritten Rule next? I really enjoyed that one as well.

I am curious about this Viola book. You’ll have to tell me how it is. That cover looks like a very Magan book 😉

Andddddd… I get to see your beautiful face on FRIDAY!! YAY!!!

Magan - Kathryn, thanks so much! Definitely excited about Cinder, too!

April 23, 2012 - 2:13 pm

Magan - Ah, Joy! Veronica was one of the first authors I’ve ever met. I went to a signing of hers in Austin last June and was literally speechless. I had no idea what to say. I felt like such a fangirl! TOTALLY speechless! Thanks so much for your comment! 🙂

April 23, 2012 - 2:12 pm

Magan - I’m so glad to hear that Paige! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! Enjoy the remainder of the summer series! 🙂

April 23, 2012 - 2:11 pm

Magan - Elena, give the summer series another try! The whole series is really wonderful. I consumed all three books in less than 24 hours. I couldn’t put them down. Thanks for the heads up about The Fine Art of Truth or Dare. I have read lots of mixed reviews of it. Tahereh is alos one of MY favorite people, too! 🙂

April 23, 2012 - 2:09 pm

Magan - Thanks, Mands! I love the cover of Meant to Be, too. I really can’t wait to read it. Feeling extremely perplexed about how I’ll manage all my reading! Haha 🙂

April 23, 2012 - 1:21 pm

Kathryn @ Clean Teen Fiction - You got to meet Veronica Roth! I’m jealous. I’m looking forward to reading Cinder too.
My IMM

April 23, 2012 - 11:08 am

Joy - I can’t wait for May 1 & Insurgent! I so loved Divergent & I was able to meet Veronica Roth at ALA last summer in New Orleans. Totally geeked out!

I loved Firelight & Ten Things We Did. I hope you do as well! The rest of you books are all on my TBR list. Great taste. 🙂

My very first IMM

April 23, 2012 - 9:00 am

Estelle - You are lovely & I didn’t find this overly girlie at all. Although more and more I realize I want to tape my own when it’s LIGHT out… I always look like I’m in a cave. haha. Added 2 of these books to my own list. So glad you had a great time at your bookish events and got to meet some great people! I think we need to trade some tips on how to not be awkward when you meet authors. Sigh. NEXT TIME.

April 22, 2012 - 11:18 pm

Paige - I just finished The Summer I Turned Pretty and I really loved it. I can’t wait to read the second book! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week. Here’s my IMM!

April 22, 2012 - 9:32 pm

elena - I skimmed through We’ll Always Have Summer but wasn’t really interested in it. I think it’s because it wasn’t the right time for me, I’m going to try it again! Love summer reads. I’m really curious what you’ll think about The Fine Art of Truth or Dare! I liked it a lot when I read it but when I thought about it, I didn’t like it as much, ha. I’m going to try to reread Divergent too before I read Insurgent! So excited to hear about Tahereh Mafi and Veronica Rossi. Tahereh has one of my favourite personalities of YA authors. I bet you’ll have a lot of fun! 😀

April 22, 2012 - 8:29 pm

VeganYANerds - I love your llog, Magan and thanks for the kind words about mine this week! <3

I LOVE the cover of Meant to Be, I want it for the cover alone as well as Second Chance Summer.

Also, I was sure my bf would laugh at my vlog but he was actually really nice when he was helping me upload it. Yours is not at all too girly, not that being girly is a bad thing 😉

April 22, 2012 - 7:42 pm

Magan - Hey Amy! It would have been SO great to see you again! I only went for a day because I couldn’t take off too long from work either. Really hoping that you and I can meet up again soon! 🙂

April 22, 2012 - 7:41 pm

Magan - Nea, I’m so glad you said you liked The Fine Art of Truth or Dare. I’ve heard it’s sort of a mixed feelings book, so I’m definitely giving it a go. I’ll let you know what I think! Thanks so much for your comment!

April 22, 2012 - 7:40 pm

Magan - Haha, thanks Margie! I know, silly husband! I guess I assumed he’d seen other IMM posts by me, but I suppose he hasn’t been watching like I thought (*shoots husband the evil eye*). You know, the lines were not terrible AT all for most of these books. The longest one was for Insurgent, but we were maybe there for an hour. Maybe. 🙂

April 22, 2012 - 7:38 pm

Magan - Thanks, Laura! I’m so excited about these books. The conference was a ton of fun. If you EVER get the chance to go to an event (TLA was $25!) you should go. Meeting the people is absolutely incredible! And yes, hoping Insurgent lands in your hands early on May 1st! 🙂

April 22, 2012 - 7:12 pm

Laura @ The Traveling Owl - What a great group of books you got. Sounds like y’all had fun at the conference.

I have to say, majorly jealous about Insurgent. I’ve pre-ordered my copy. Just waiting for May 1 to get here.

Happy reading!

Laura @ The Traveling Owl

Amy @ bookgoonie - Awesome, Beautiful books. I really wanted to go to TLA, but taking off the week before TAKS testing would earn me a pink slip.

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Wow — what an awesome batch of books you got! I wish Vancouver would have a bookish event like the ones that you’ve been able to attend! That’s sooooo cool that you met so many authors too, and got your books signed! I think I would probably die if I met Veronica Roth. I’m so excited for Insurgent, I can barely stand it. And I have to wait an extra week so that I can order it with City of Lost Souls and get free shipping. *pouts*

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on my IMM — I agree with you that book friends are the bestest! I can’t WAIT to read Variant too! xoxo

Katie @ BlookGirl - You were at TXLA, too?! DARN! It seems I missed a lot of wonderful bloggers while I got lost in the aisles. LOL. Wish I could have met you, but definitely next time!

I am SO incredibly excited for INSURGENT. Since I didn’t get to snag the ARC at TXLA, I did the next best thing and pre-ordered it at Veronica Roth’s book signing last night 😉 Not too much longer to wait!

CINDER is absolutely amazing, and is my favorite read of 2012 thus far. I really hope you enjoy it. Isn’t it wonderful to have such amazing, generous friends? Go Jess! 🙂

I hope you enjoy all your lovelies and that we have a chance to meet sometime soon!
