Time marches & the books are good company

We are 10 days into April and the temperature has spiked to over 70 degrees in New York. This always happens! It’s cold, spring says hi for a quick minute, it gets cold again, and suddenly we are being teased with summer. I mean, nothing is definite but the warm sun on my face, my […]

Top 10 Tuesday: Best Reads of 2014 (So Far)

I had to participate this week because it’s like an experiment. Will these 10 books still be on my list in 6 months? Will they be bumped by something else amazing? It’s hard to say and I love the mystery. (Even if I am an impatient person.) I know I am so pumped to see […]

The Time Has Come: A Chat with Carrie Arcos - […] week in my Top 10 Tuesday post, I mentioned my 5-star reads of the year so far so I’m super thrilled to have Carrie Arcos on […]

June 13, 2014 - 11:37 am

Vicky - There are a couple on here that I really want to read, such as Everything Leads To You and definitely Pointe! Also, Open Road Summer is definitely a book I want to purchase, so think I definitely will now!

June 12, 2014 - 10:33 pm

Ellice Y - THIS POST! ESTELLE! Reading this post has seriously turned a not-so-great day into a “YAY, BOOKS!” kind of day. I am SO excited about your list because it has so many titles that I haven’t read yet. I trust your (and Magan’s!) taste in books implicitly, so I’m currently adding lots of books to my shopping cart. Haha. I’ve only read 3 of these, Open Road Summer, Me Before You, and Life by Committee, and I loved them so much. I also have The Things You Kiss Goodbye on my Kindle to read very soon, so it just got bumped up to the top of the list. I brought the One and Only home from work because I saw on Goodreads that you really liked it (bahaha, that sounds creepy doesn’t it? I don’t stalk you, I promise!). I’ve read a couple of Giffin’s other books and was always disappointed, so I’m hoping this will be the one that wins me over.

This is my favorite TTT list of the week. Love it!

June 10, 2014 - 11:43 pm

Devyn - The cover of Everything Leads to You is gorgeous! Definitely adding that one (and the rest of this list) to my TBR 🙂

June 10, 2014 - 10:30 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I just got Everything Leads to You from the library today!!! I’m so excited to read it.

June 10, 2014 - 7:24 pm

Alexa S. - I have Pointe and There Will Come a Time in my pile of books to read (surprise, surprise, it’s ever growing) and I’m looking forward to them both! I’m also thrilled that you convinced me to read Life by Committee and Sorta Like a Rockstar. Plus, I loved Me Before You and Open Road Summer! Great selection of books 🙂

June 10, 2014 - 7:17 pm

tabithasbookblog - I’m really interested in Everything Leads to You! I haven’t read anything by this author before (which I’m hoping to fix soon), but I’ve never heard anything bad! And I can’t remember if Open Road Summer made it onto my list, but Lilah and Reagan’s friendship was my favorite thing about that book!

June 10, 2014 - 6:49 pm

Danielle @ Love at First Page - Ah, I haven’t read most of these, but I did really like There Will Come a Time (male pov = win). Open Road Summer has made a lot of blogger’s lists, and it makes me sad all over again how disappointed I was by it. 🙁
I will definitely be checking out these other books, though!

June 10, 2014 - 4:39 pm

Gaby @ Queen Ella Bee Reads - There are so many books here I’ve been on the fence about, but I trust you, lady, and so my TBR list grows and shifts…

June 10, 2014 - 3:02 pm

Kat - Adding several of these to my TBR list! How interesting that in so many of these TTT I’m reading today, there are mostly contemporary stories!

June 10, 2014 - 2:43 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - Y’all always have such a fresh mix of books on here. My TBR grows again!

June 10, 2014 - 11:53 am

Kim @ kimberlyfaye reads - Everything Leads to You, Pointe and There Will Come a Time are on my TBR. I’m looking forward to reading them, whenever I get around to it. 🙂

My TTT.

June 10, 2014 - 11:20 am

Stefani @ Caught Read Handed - You’re right: everyone has Open Road Summer on their list, except for me. It’s on my summer TBR list and I cannot wait to read it. I’m even more excited now that I’ve seen it on so many people’s lists. I also really want to read Everything Leads to You. I’ll have to check it out soon.
Great list!
Here’s my TTT!

June 10, 2014 - 11:05 am

Monica @ A Southern Girls Bookshelf - I loved The One & Only! I love any book that showcases my state [TX]. The best book from Emily Giffin…yet!

June 10, 2014 - 10:57 am

jill - Uh-oh, I am writing a review on The One and Only – -there was very little I liked about it :/ I definitely LOVED Me Before You, though, and Everything Leads to You is on my TBR list!

June 10, 2014 - 10:37 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I, too, thought it would be interesting to look back on this list come December and see which books still deserved the top ten slot. I have There Will Come a Time to read and seeing it as a five star read from you has made me very, very eager to read it sooner, rather than later. Yay!

June 10, 2014 - 10:01 am

Ideklinz - The Nina LaCour book is sitting on my shelf & can’t wait to read–and Me Before You is ready to go on my kindle…although I’m gonna need to really prep myself before I read it :*( pointe & Life By Committee are on my TBR list…ya kno, that ever growing list that never stops haha

June 10, 2014 - 9:18 am

Jennifer from YA Book Nerd - Great list – I loved Everything Leads Back to You.

June 10, 2014 - 9:16 am

Meg - I’m totally getting The One and Only ASAP — though you’re definitely right about Giffin’s recent misses, she’s still a must-read author for me — and I’m psyched about this one!

So many other great books here, none of which I’ve read! I see my wishlist growing exponentially . . .

Top Ten Books I Snagged at ALA!

Hi, friends! Magan here. It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted each week by the Broke and the Bookish. (Check out Jamie’s Top Ten Historical Fiction books here!) This week’s topic can be about anything we want. Since I just got back from ALA in Dallas yesterday, I wanted to share the top ten books […]

Magan - Thanks, Andrea! I tend to be a little obsessive compulsive. And also a few people had asked me to see the books, so the easiest way was to organize them (to fulfill my OCD need) and take pictures (because goodness gracious I was not about to type all those out!). Haha. Thanks for becoming a new follower. I’m off to go check out your blog now.

February 2, 2012 - 4:58 pm

Andrea @ The Overstuffed Bookcase - I just found out about you guys from the feature on GReads, and I really like your blog! I love your photos, especially the ones you added here showcasing the books you got at ALA by their release date! Very cute and clever!

Sarah @ Storybound Girl - Can’t wait to read a few of the same books and FREAK OUT ABOUT THE AWESOMENESS TOGETHER. I finished Pandemonium this morning & now I can’t decide what to read next!

Love your bookcases with the painted backs. I’ve got a row of (full) Billys myself… they’re great when you need space for a lot of books. You can just keep on buying more as needed (except I need another one & I have no idea where to put it!)…

January 25, 2012 - 9:50 am

Magan - Ange, there’s no way to carry them all at once! The parking garage was one floor below the convention center, so I periodically went downstairs to unload my bags. I brought a backpack (thank goodness!) and it turned out to be the best thing ever. So much easier to carry books like that than in the thin-strapped bags some publishers provided for free.

January 25, 2012 - 9:49 am

Magan - Ginger, I love, love, love that we got to meet. It was seriously one of the BIGGEST highlights of my weekend. I wish we had more time to sit, nerd out over books, and talk. I am so glad to know that you and I have such similar taste in books and that you got copies of some of the same ones I did. You’ll be my discussion buddy! 🙂

January 25, 2012 - 9:47 am

Magan - Thank you all so much for the sweet comments about the bookshelves. I’ll update you with a finished picture soon. Right now the books really are just thrown on the shelves. Hahah.

As for ALA, all I can say is sign up for a conference. Look into ALA (in California) in June 2012 or BEA (in New York) in June 2012. If you live in Texas, TLA will be in Houston this year. I forget which days. :-/ Thank you all so, so much for stopping by to comment! Can’t wait to share reviews of these books with you!

January 25, 2012 - 9:44 am

Magan - Anna, that is going to be my next book to start! I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far! Thanks for being my ALA buddy this weekend. I’m so glad you went, too!

January 24, 2012 - 9:10 pm

Anna - Yaaaay for ALA Midwinter! I had such a good time. You got Pandemonium! It was touch and go there for a while, but Harper Collins pulled through. 🙂 As for your question…I think Dying to Know You is my favorite to have received.

January 24, 2012 - 7:52 pm

Megan - Love your new shelves, and all those new books on them look super-exciting! In Honor sounds *really* good.

January 24, 2012 - 4:01 pm

VeganYANerds - WOWSERS! You got so many books!! I really want to read In Honor and Pandemonium.

I hope you love Froi of the Exiles! And if you need a copy of Finnikin of the Rock and can’t find it, just let me know 😉

January 24, 2012 - 1:37 pm

Nikki - Awesome haul! I am very intrigued by Flirting in Italian. If it is half as good as Anna and the French Kiss then sign me up! And I am jealous of your bookshelves and your fantastic collection of books on them.

Laura @ The Traveling Owl - Wow! What a haul.

Catastrophic looks fantastic, and I am so excited about Flirting in Italian, too!

Your bookshelves look fabulous. Congrats.

Laura @ The Traveling Owl

January 24, 2012 - 11:12 am

Tara @ Hobbitsies - Okay I have officially read your post in detail and it sounds like you had a BLAST. And I am beyond uber jealous. And In Honor is SO SO SO SO GOOD.

And your shelves are SO SO SO SO PRETTY. I might need to look into these billy shelves even there’s none around me. Although my boyfriend did say I’d never buy another bookshelf again because he’d make them so….

When you’re less tired you should totally take a picture of the all the shelf with the books from a distance so I can admire the finished pretty.

Books I would snatch off the shelves if i could – Flirting in Italian, duh, and A World Away. AMISH PEOPLE YEAH.

January 24, 2012 - 10:09 am

Megan @ Between the Lines - Amazing post! I loved the bookshelf too. So jealous.

And I SO want to read Flirting in Italian. It looks great. =)

Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten!

January 24, 2012 - 9:16 am

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I cannot even explain how much AWE I am feeling at seeing all the books that you managed to snag. SO. MANY. TITLES. I am loving your stash! 😉 There are a lot of titles that I want to read on your pile, especially Flirting in Italian and The Disenchantments.

I’m so glad you had fun at ALA and cannot wait to hear all about it! And, as I’ve mentioned already, I LOVE your shelves. They look absolutely amazing! 😀

January 24, 2012 - 8:23 am

Ginger @ GReads! - YOU, Magan, are definitely one of my most favorite things about the craziness of ALA weekend 🙂 I had so so so much fun hanging out with you & getting to know you better. Walking around the exhibit hall, scoping out books together, talking about lord know’s what!, was such a treat for me 🙂

I am IN LOVE with your shelves! I may need to invest in something similar at my new place. The one book shelf I have now is over flowing. And your comment about pandemonium at Harper.. SO TRUE! I still can’t believe that happened.

January 24, 2012 - 6:27 am

Mandy R - What a great haul from ALA!

I love your new shelves. Painting the back is a fun idea. I am so jealous of them!

Happy reading!

January 24, 2012 - 5:04 am

Lori - Oh wow! Really…wow! Looks like you had an amazing time and Pandemonium is….amazing. Really, really incredible. I also really loved The Disenchantments! Enjoy all those new books.
My Top Ten Tuesday!

January 24, 2012 - 4:54 am

Ange - Wow…quite a haul! How in the world do u even carry that many books around at a conference? Cannot wait for Pandemonium!

January 24, 2012 - 3:21 am

Ashley - OH MY GOODNESS I AM SO JEALOUS. Of everything! I want to read pretty much every single one of those books on your list (most notably In Honor, The List, and Flirting in Italian), and your entire haul is fabulous!

Also, I love your bookshelves! The color is fantastic.

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - Magan, I want to DIE. Flirting in Italian is a book I have been DYING for! It’s coming out while I’m in Italy!!!! NOOOOOOOO! Because now I can’t have it for the trip, which makes me cry inside because I love themed reads that mesh with my vacations. And you got Pandemonium!?!?! And Love and Leftovers! And The Disenchantments!!! And The Story of Us!!! And I am DYING for Pizza, Love, etc…!!!!! Wow. What an amazing time you had! I love that you went. 🙂 And your shelves are gorgeous! Ikea, right? I have two of them myself. 🙂 They are amazing, but take forever to set up!

January 24, 2012 - 12:30 am

Brittani - Thanks for stopping by my top ten Magan! Wow!! You got like literally a ton of books!!! Lol. OOHH! The Catastrophic History of You & Me! I cant wait to read that! I actually won an ARC of it and I’m just waiting for it to come in. You snagged a lot great books! 🙂
