Shelve It: In Which We Buy All the Books

Howdy, friends! We’re both checking in to confess how many books share the books we’ve purchased lately with another Shelve It. It’s been a good, good month for reading and we both, um, went a little overboard. Our wallets are feeling quite depleted, but we’re really excited about all of these and we hope you are, […]

Judith - M, I can’t wait to see what you think of Pointe. I’ve heard AMAZING things about it. I also thoroughly enjoyed Rites of Passage and On the Fence, so I hope you’ll like them.

E, whoa, amazing books! Of course, Open Road Summer is my FAVORITE. I also love the Great cake, and I can’t wait to read that.

May 3, 2014 - 1:56 am

Alexa S. - Whee, happy reading ladies! I think I got roughly the same amount of books you each did individually, so we’re good. I’d say we bought just the right amount for such an awesome week of releases!

April 30, 2014 - 10:09 pm

brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Hahaha M’s super incriminating purchase page! but good purchases!!! It’s okay, E, it happens to the best of us. Amazing events! So much fun. It’s hard when they’re all back-to-back but it’s also just like a whirlwind of amazing! And YAY Open Road Summer finally arrived! Yessss!

April 27, 2014 - 5:13 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Not going to lie – seeing all these beautiful books in one post has made me feel a little better about the fact that I went book buying crazy this month. SO MANY PRE-ORDERS, y’all. And then, you know, lots of unplanned purchases that I couldn’t resist… and I can’t even blame it on attending any signings.

Also, I just grabbed Pointe from the library this week per E’s rec. Hope I get to it before it’s due back!

April 24, 2014 - 12:38 pm

Ginger @ GReads! - Look at all those beautiful books! I’m jealous, Estelle, that you got to attend Jenny Han’s pub party. From the pics I saw, it looked like such a good time! Also, that comment about her sister & christmas morning.. COMPLETELY agree with that. Magan, I want updates when you read Corey’s book!

PS, Teen Book Con is this weekend, so I’m sure I’ll have a post similar to this one sometime next week with all my book purchases! Can’t wait!

April 23, 2014 - 12:20 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I don’t think you guys picked up too many books at all. Of course, I might not be the best person to ask that question 🙂

That’s awesome that there were so many book events last week, Estelle. Magan, I haven’t read Unremembered, but it’s definitely on my list. I got to see Jessica Brody at the Rochester Teen Book Fest last year, and she was a fun speaker.

Enjoy all your goodies and happy reading! 🙂

A Rare Mid-Week Shelve It (Plus Giveaway!)

I’m sorry to tell you that it’s not Sunday. But yesterday I was all dressed up and not post-gym gross for once so I decided to clean off my “kitchen” table (it’s in the living room, if I’m honest) and share with you what I’ve been buying lately: the results of my book buying ban, […]

March 16, 2014 - 5:47 pm

Alexa S. - Yay for a new vlog from you, E! It’s just nice hearing you talk about your book purchases again 🙂 Also — You Are Here! Out of the Easy! Anatomy of a Single Girl! Great, great, great titles that I’ve also read and loved <3 I actually don't mind having a hardback/paperback with me on the morning commute; it's less likely that I'll damage it when I drop it, as opposed to my iPad where I read all my e-books!

March 16, 2014 - 4:39 pm

The Bookish Manicurist - All the Truth That’s In Me is wonderful, I hope you love it! Fixing Delilah sounds good, I’ve seen such good reviews – I promise I’ll read it!
The Winner’s Curse is getting a lot of hype, I have plans to read it too.

Yes, I worry I will ruin books when I carry them in my bag and you don’t have to worry with ebooks, but I do prefer reading actual books!

March 16, 2014 - 1:33 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Don’t mind me, just catching up with blogs…Sex and Violence, All the Truth That’s In Me, and Out of the Easy were three of my favorite books from last year so I am super excited for you to read them!

March 13, 2014 - 10:03 pm

Lisa is Busy Nerding - It’s so different from everything on my tbr PLUS you loved it so basically yes. The idea of the movie stars meets YA sounds fun!

March 13, 2014 - 10:01 pm

Liz - Carrie Mesrobian is seriously one of the coolest people. I went to the launch for SEX AND VIOLENCE and she’s super witty and nice in person. I still need to read her book. I have not read THE VOW or ANATOMY OF A SINGLE GIRL but they are both on my pile so I’ll have to bump them up now.

I can’t wait to hear how you like THE WINNER’S CURSE! I hope you read it soon.

March 13, 2014 - 8:44 pm

Amy B - I am still hearing great things on these books. Even if I don’t win, I am going to find myself a copy.

March 12, 2014 - 9:19 pm

alicia marie - I loved Starstruck and it was definitely one of my favorite books last year!! I’m super excited to read Love Me 🙂

March 12, 2014 - 6:32 pm

Amy - I don’t think I have read anything like these two books before, they sound really interesting!

March 12, 2014 - 3:03 pm

Lucy - You picked up some good books! Seriously some of my favorites of last year- like S&V, Out of the Easy, and Tell the Wolves. Can’t wait to hear what you think of them.

I read Anatomy of a Boyfriend last year and really liked it! Very Judy Blume Forever-esque. I need to circle back with the companion book soon.

Don’t know how I’ve missed out on Fixing Delilah but you make it sound like a must-read.

Have a good week!

March 12, 2014 - 1:25 pm

Ashley @ Ok, Let's Read - You’re the second person I’ve seen mentioning Sex and Violence. I don’t know if it’s just me, but with a name like that.. I just really want to read that! I’ve also wanted to read Anatomy of a Single Girl for a while now.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Starstruck series, to be honest. And, that’s what makes me want to read it! I love when books have mixed reviews because then I can read them, form my own opinions and join in the conversation.

March 12, 2014 - 11:28 am

Shelby Brown - I have heard so many great things about the starstruck series, and I have been meaning to read them for a while. I get excited by a book that people are extremely passionate about!

Shelve It: Zac Efron and Breaking Book Bans

Hiya! Tell me if I’m alone: you know you have to do a v-log but you are either not showered, just came back from the gym, or too darn tired to collect the books all over your apartment. This was me, so now it’s Sunday morning and I’m giving you a pajama party v-log. My […]

Leah - I can DEFINITELY get behind pj party vlogs!

Okay Liza Palmer – I need to see what all the fuss is about! At this point I think I’m the only person who hasn’t read her stuff. I’ve checked a few times and my library has a few of her books, next time I stop by I’ll have to (finally) pick one up!

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to how to pronounce Moyes. I default to Moy-es, though I’ve heard others say Moys. 🙁 Who knows!

February 27, 2014 - 2:16 pm

Alexa S. - I still think you look pretty cute, E! I rarely have makeup on in my vlogs, so I think I’m just used to being on camera without it at this point 😉 Anyway, your book buying to break your ban sounds epic! HAPPY READING. (PS – Read Brooklyn Girls! I’m reading the sequel now and it’s SO FUN.)

February 24, 2014 - 12:06 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - So I’m at work right now, so I can’t watch your vlog 🙁

I’ll have to watch it when I get home. I’ve only done a few vlogs, but not in ages, because, like you, I’m in my PJs and just not looking good. Although from the thumbnail, you are looking very glamorous and I LOVE your glasses.

I had decided to NOT request The Geography of Me and You, because I’m trying to not go crazy with the requesting of ARCs, but I totally caved and requested it the other day.

February 24, 2014 - 7:36 am

Alice - Brilliant haul Estelle! 😀 😀 SO jealous of the gorgeous books. Pajama party vlogs are awesome! Who cares anymore anyway. You gotta vlog when you gotta vlog. 😉 And your hair looked fabulous in it anyway. No biggie at all!

February 23, 2014 - 6:11 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I love watching your v-logs, and honestly wouldn’t notice (or care) if your hair was messy! Looks like some great books for you this week … I hadn’t heard about the controversy over September Girls, but I’m not super interested in mermaid books anyways, so it wasn’t on my radar to begin with. But I’ll look forward to reading your review!

Also, YAY — I’m SO glad that you read (and loved) Me Before You. That was, hands down, one of my favourite reads of 2013 and I’m looking forward to reading some more of her books.

I’ve read Smack and Doing It by Melvin Burgess. He’s definitely a very “out there” YA writer because he writes about really heavy topics. I thought for some reason that he was dead, but I guess not if he’s coming out with new books?

February 23, 2014 - 4:47 pm

April Books & Wine - The Geography Of You And Me has such delicious prose, I hope you love it!

MATTHEW QUICK! My 2013 favorite!

Hah, I have not done a vlog in months because I am always just coming in from the gym or in PJs or do not feel like putting on makeup. It’s awkward. Alas.

Enjoy the new books!

February 23, 2014 - 3:29 pm

The Bookish Manicurist - I have done the same thing with September Girls, I added it, removed it, and now I want to add it again. I think I let negative reviews put me off a little too quickly!

Good to see your face, lady 😉

It’s Sunday! Woo! Just wanted to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who left us comments, tweeted us, etc. for our 2-year blog anniversary. We have definitely been riding a high all week, and even more so because our first Twitter Chat was absolutely so much fun and we can’t wait to do it again. […]

Alexa Y. - Wow! You girls have got quite an amazing selection of books. I think I’m most looking to Love Letters to the Dead and Going Rogue, which I have too!

November 11, 2013 - 3:42 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Corinne Demas was my first year seminar professor in college. I requested Returning to Shore on NG, but got declined. Which is fine, I more just wanted to read it because I hated her as a professor, haha.

November 10, 2013 - 12:31 pm

Lucy @ The Reading Date - Lots of great looking 2014 titles! INK and Going Rogue are a couple I’m eager to read.
Enjoy!

November 10, 2013 - 11:56 am

Bookworm1858 - I have a lot of those same books to read too-they all look so intriguing!

I’m hoping to read some more adult books like Booker winner The Luminaries as well as business/leadership non-fiction to aid in my professional development. So that will make 2014 an interesting mix of YA, MG, even some NA and then adult stuff.

Congrats again on 2 years!

Shelve It: Double the V-Logs

Hey, hey! We’re both here this lovely Sunday with vlogs for you in this week’s Shelve It! We’re going to be celebrating our two year anniversary this week and we wanted to say hello, catch up, and remind you of something fun we have coming up this Tuesday! We’ll be doing a Twitter chat from […]

November 6, 2013 - 5:14 pm

Lena @ Addicted 2 Novels - FINGERPRINTS OF YOU! I EFFING LOVE THAT BOOK!

November 4, 2013 - 5:51 pm

Alexa Y. - Hooray for two years of RBR! I’m so happy that blogging brought us together, as my life would be so less awesome without you both. <3

November 3, 2013 - 11:17 pm

Lisa Schensted - TWO YEARS! YIPEE!
I’m totes on that twitter chat, too! See ya there, homies.

November 3, 2013 - 7:23 pm

Paige - I bought myself a copy of Allegiant a week or two ago and I’m dying to read it! But I’m afraid to because I don’t want the trilogy to end. Good luck with everything Magan! And I hope you both enjoy everything!

My IMM

November 3, 2013 - 2:22 pm

Liz (Along for the Read) - Estelle- I hate covers with faces, which is the sole reason that I have not yet purchased or read Just One Year yet. I’m going to hold out for the library copy, and hope that the paperback matches Just One Day (because I also really like that paperback cover)

Magan- I hope everything turns out well with your foster daughter, that must be a roller coaster of emotions, but it is so amazing that you have been able to experience all of that. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way.

I am so looking forward to the RBR chat on Tuesday! Can’t wait to talk to you both!

November 3, 2013 - 1:50 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Aww, Magan. I hope things go as well as they can with your family. I really liked The Distance Between Us, too. It’s a light sweet read – maybe something you might need right now. I also need to stop buying, and then not reading my books.

Estelle – Prom & Prejudice is super cute. I don’t love all of Elizabeth Eulberg’s books, but that one is at the top of my list. I also really like The Lonely Heart’s Club. When I have a down day, I like to head to the book store, too.

I’m writing myself a reminder right now for your Twitter Chat. Congrats on two years of blogging!

Shelve It: September 15, 2013

Hi all! Hope you are having a great weekend so far. I think fall is finally happening in New York City. After a few days of crazy humidity, we’ve had our apartment windows open and it’s actually COLD at night and in the morning. Kind of insane. What’s also kind of insane is that James […]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Basically, what I took away from this is that you bought NOWHERE BUT HOME (yay!) but still haven’t read it yet (boo!). So, let’s make that happen. I mean, Zac Efron is involved so it’s a serious promise you made.

September 18, 2013 - 3:21 am

Alexa Y. - I can’t wait to get back and feel the fall weather! It’s always been my favorite of the seasons, with summer coming a close second. So excited. Also, the cover for Vintage Attraction looks great! I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it.

September 17, 2013 - 10:37 pm

Lucy @ The Reading Date - Glad you had a nice trip to The Hamptons. That’s a gorgeous shot.

I picked up Sad Poets recently too and I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it. Vintage Attraction is new to me, and I’ve been meaning to start Nowhere but Home. (so many good books to read!)
Just started reading Between Us. Hope you’re liking it.

Enjoy all your new books!

September 16, 2013 - 1:52 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Great picture! You guys picked a great day to come out this way, the weather was amazing yesterday. I’m excited to read Something Real. I was so disappointed with You Look Different in Real Life and I’m hoping Something Real, which sounds somewhat similar, will be better at living up to my expectations. Have a good week!

September 16, 2013 - 12:38 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - I’ve never been to the Hamptons, but that photo is beautiful. You weren’t kidding about the clouds!

The weather has been very fickle in CNY. One day the high is in the fifties, the next day the high is in the 80s. But I think fall is pretty much here now. It’s definitely cooler and night and in the morning. I love it!

I like to read non-fiction every once in a while, too. I LOVE Steve Sheinkin who writes middle-grade non-fiction. He’s written Bomb (which won a zillion awards this year), The Notorious Benedict Arnold (which also won a whole bunch of awards) and Lincoln’s Grave Robbers (which I haven’t read yet, but will sometime soon).

Anyway, enjoy your books.

September 15, 2013 - 6:31 pm

Jen - WOOAH. I love the cover for Vintage Attraction, but I read the synopsis and I’m not sure if it’s my type of read. I’ll be looking forward to your review! And Something Real sounds really good, I can’t wait to see the cover for that one! Happy reading!

September 15, 2013 - 5:24 pm

Lisa (heylisarenee) - I seem to remember you saying something about your college closing your sophomore year…did you blog about that before? Or am I just a REALLY good stalker?

And another Echols book?! I need to keep up with her awesomeness!

September 15, 2013 - 2:44 pm

Bookworm1858 - I got Something Real from NG too-I’m really excited to check it out and curious as to what the cover will look like!

September 15, 2013 - 12:24 pm

Rachel - Ohh, I forgot to tell you! I read Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets after that event and really liked it! It was different than what I’m used to, but in a good way. You should tell me what you think when you finish.

Your pictures of the Hamptons look gorgeous! When I come back and visit you’ll have to take me there 🙂
