Big Kids’ Table: Receipt Recommendations

March 31st already! Here’s hoping spring is truly on the way this time! I’m really looking forward to reading a book outside instead of curled up under 2 blankets at home or in a hefty jacket on the subway. For now, let’s focus on today’s BKT. I am so excited about it! Here’s the story: Last […]

Big Kids's Table: More than Just Romance (at Harlequin) - […] on this feature. Big thanks to those of you who gave me positive feedback on last month’s Receipt Recommendations; I will hopefully be doing another one sometime in the future. (But I really must take a break from […]

April 27, 2014 - 6:16 pm

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - Ohhh I really like this spin on Big Kids Table! Please keep doing it. But, yeah, pass on American Heiress. I have NO idea why they recommended it with SSM, but I did not like that book at all. And you know I love historical fiction. That is all. xo

April 11, 2014 - 5:10 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - I love this feature, go buy more books so you can do more! 😉 I agree with you about Wedding Night, I’ve loved most of Sophie’s other books (including her last one before Wedding Night, something about a phone number), but it’s been a year and I still haven’t read it. I added The Star Attraction to my TBR, it sounds great and I’m curious about Allison Sweeney’s writing. I really liked The American Heiress, but I love historical fiction. And Revenge Wears Prada, I can’t decide if I want to read it or if I think it’s just silly that there’s a sequel.

April 6, 2014 - 7:21 am

Sunday Post: 62nd Edition - […] Big Kid’s Table: Recommendations Super cute! I really need to start doing something like this. […]

April 1, 2014 - 12:18 am

Alexa S. - I’m a Sophie Kinsella fan, but I haven’t read Wedding Night or I’ve Got Your Number yet. This post reminds me that I really should! I also really like the sound of The Star Attraction and The Lost Husband, plus I do kind of want to see what happens in Revenge Wears Prada. Winning choices, for the most part!

March 31, 2014 - 6:29 pm

Lucy - I rarely look at those book recommendation receipts either, but I love that you dug in to take a closer look! I’ve definitely been on a grown-up read kick lately. And agreed-The Lost Husband and The Star Attraction (cute cover!) look the most promising. I recently picked up the SSM audio and I hope to fit it in soon.

March 31, 2014 - 10:24 am

Leah - oh gosh, E, the last time I went to Barnes & Noble was last year to get my mom a new nook for Christmas. The time before that? TWO Christmases ago when I picked up one of my favorite MG novels for Matt’s cousin. I had NO idea they started giving recs!!

My Best Friend’s Wedding is one of those movies where I will drop EVERYTHING and watch it anytime it’s on! Loove it.

Some of these sound so fun!!

March 31, 2014 - 9:08 am

daphne - I think I’m with you on all of them. I have been wanting to read Wedding Night b/c I love SK, too. and The Lost Husband is going on my TBR, though I’ve never heard of it. thanks for putting it on my radar.

July 2, 2013 - 10:28 am

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - I just added the Tom Leveen book that Magan has listed to my library wishlist. WOOHOO! Also, E, I just finished the Lauren Graham book yesterday.

June 26, 2013 - 5:20 pm

Alexa Y. - What great picks! I really do agree with a lot of the ones you guys have chosen, particularly Golden, which I ADORED. I have yet to read a few of these titles, but I’m eagerly looking forward to them – particularly Criminal, Dangerous Girls and Starstruck.

June 26, 2013 - 2:28 pm

Daisy @ The Broke and the Bookish and Between the Pages - YAY for Golden!! So much love for that book! And I’m very excited to see I’ve Got Your Number on Magan’s list, I got a copy last week 🙂
And Estelle: I’m dying to read Nantucket Blue, I’m glad you liked it so much!!

June 26, 2013 - 10:59 am

molly @ wrapped up in books - I’m going to have to read DANGEROUS GIRLS! The synopsis gave me lukewarm feelings, but with such a strong endorsement I’ll give it a shot! I love seeing CRIMINAL get some love — what a fantastic book! FINGERPRINTS OF YOU is also a book I think is underrated so I’m glad you enjoyed it. I need to read GOLDEN soon. I just might have a Jessi Kirby marathon!

June 26, 2013 - 2:20 am

Lucy @ The Reading Date - You both have fantastic taste in books! Winger, Someday Maybe and Dangerous Girls are a few I can’t wait to read. Loved Golden, E&P and manicpixiedreamgirl. Hope the rest of the year is just as amazing for you!

June 25, 2013 - 4:54 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Oh hi. Yeah. I haven’t read any of your top books. SADS! But I want to! They’re on my list! I PROMISE!! 😀

June 25, 2013 - 2:54 pm

Maggie @ Just a Couple More Pages - Great lists, ladies! I’ve read or want to read all of these. I was very pleasantly surprised by Criminal and Someday, Someday Maybe. And I think I’ve Got Your Number is one of Sophie Kinsella’s best (I agree she’s very hit or miss).

My TTT

June 25, 2013 - 2:49 pm

Jen @ Pop! Goes The Reader - Wow, I can’t imagine only being able to choose five books – I had enough trouble narrowing my list down to only ten! Hehe. I was really excited to see so many books on my own TBR list on your TTT lists this week. I own Nantucket Blue, Golden, Fingerprints Of You and Eleanor & Park and have yet to read any of them, but their inclusion on your list made me all the more excited to read them now 🙂 The fact that they’ve appeared on a number of TTT lists this week is comforting.

June 25, 2013 - 2:20 pm

Anna - Some lovely picks, ladies! Winger’s high up on my “GAH I NEED TO READ THIS” list for sure.

June 25, 2013 - 12:23 pm

Hollie @ Music, Books and Tea - I am definitely borrowing I’ve Got Your Number when I next go to the library as it looks awesome. I’m really looking forward to reading Nantucket Blue as it seems like everyone who has read it has loved it!

June 25, 2013 - 12:07 pm

Natalie @Natflix&Books - I loved Winger and Golden. Both made my list, too. I really liked Someday, Someday, Maybe and Nantucket Blue. I’m so excited for Dangerous Girls. Great lists!

June 25, 2013 - 11:58 am

Rachel - I’m reading three of the books Estelle listed in like the next two weeks so YAY because she/you have the best taste ever IMO. Golden was AMAZING. And obviously Nantucket Blue. I especially liked the sex scene in that one. And that’s going to sound totally awkward to anyone that hasn’t read the book, but it was handled so well which I really appreciate.

June 25, 2013 - 11:51 am

Renae @ Respiring Thoughts - Nantucket Blue and Someday, Someday, Maybe were both phenomenal, as was Golden! I especially enjoyed Lauren Graham’s humor and voice in SSM.

June 25, 2013 - 11:35 am

Sash and Em - We’ve only read one book off this list – Eleanor & Park – Looks like we’ve got some good reading ahead of us 🙂

June 25, 2013 - 11:03 am

Jamie - Estelle I own all of the books except Criminal on your list so I’m excited! I started Starstruck on the beach but only got like 2 pages in because I was chasing Genevieve. I love that so many of my “must reads” for my beach bag are on your list so I know I’ll be doing some good reading!

Magan — E&P <333 I have you to thank for that one. I also LOVED Golden and really wanted to put it on my list but I split it into 2013 releases and backlisted. SIGH. Dying to read Winger because of how much you are raving about it! And I own Manicpixiedreamgirl but I haven't seen much about it so I'm glad to see it make your faves list!

June 25, 2013 - 11:02 am

Sharon @ The Book Barbies - How is it that I have read NONE of these books yet? I really need to get on that! I’ve been on the library waiting list for Someday, Someday, Maybe for entirely too long, and I’m still waiting! *sigh*

June 25, 2013 - 10:49 am

Olena - Nantucket Blue is on my list. Golden was amazing and life altering! It definitely changed my way of thinking.

June 25, 2013 - 10:43 am

Daphne - there is so much on here that i want to read, but i have to agree with magan on E&P and I’ve Got Your Number, great, fantastic books. I haven’t read any of Estelle’s books, but I think they’re all on my tbr list already 🙂

June 25, 2013 - 10:18 am

Stacy Renee @ LazyDayLiterature - I’m waiting on Nantucket Blue to get to me via mail and I plan on reading Eleanor & Park in July. It seems to be on everyone’s list.
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday

June 25, 2013 - 10:15 am

Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros - I’m so glad Golden is making everyone’s lists! I loved that one! Eleanor & Park is another popular choice this week (I need to read that one!) And I definitely want to pick up Someday Someday Maybe! Great list guys!

My TTT

June 25, 2013 - 9:43 am

tabithasbookblog - I’m so behind on my 2013 releases! The only book on your guys’ list that I’ve read is Nantucket Blue! Which I enjoyed, but it didn’t make it onto my list! Hopefully I’ll be reading Golden this week!

June 25, 2013 - 9:25 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Yes! Loved E&P and Nanctucket Blue! And ESTELLE. You are killing me!
*goes to Edelweiss… downloads my copy of Dangerous Girls.. puts work aside and starts reading* HAPPY? Haha 🙂

June 25, 2013 - 9:17 am

Andi - I have heard excellent things about Winger. I’m going to have to make sure I read that.

Great list!

My TTT List

June 25, 2013 - 8:49 am

Bookworm1858 - I really dislike Becky in the Shopaholic series too-my sister loves them but I find her just too annoying. Thankfully I tend to like her standalones like I’ve Got Your Number a lot. Eleanor & Park would definitely be on my list for this year but I will need to spend some time thinking about what else should be there.

June 25, 2013 - 8:33 am

Ginger @ GReads! - I’ve only read 1 book from E’s picks & 2 books from M’s picks. I always trust your judgement, so I guess it’s time I add a few of these to my forever growing TBR list.

June 25, 2013 - 7:41 am

VeganYANerds - E – so glad you loved Fingerprints of You!

M – I want to read all your picks!

Sweet Summertime Reads: Beach Bags Galore!

Hello, hot hot summer! Yesterday Ginger at GReads! shared what’s in her beach bag. Today we’re doing the same. Quite frankly, we’re longing for days at the beach to escape work and day-to-day life busyness. Oh, to smell like sunscreen while spending a long day with sand collecting between your toes… Magan: I’m a terrible […]

June 19, 2013 - 3:11 pm

Alexa Y. - This post is SO ADORABLE. You girls make me want to pack up and head on over to the beach! (I haven’t been yet since the weather got warmer. That’s gotta change.) I love both pairs of sandals, the striped backpack and that AWESOME picnic basket!

June 19, 2013 - 12:11 pm

Rachel - Estelle, your picks totally scream you and I love it. I can so see you with that beach bag. Magan, those sandals are THE CUTEST and also I love that towel and the tote bag. You should be my personal shopper or something. My beach bag is always filled with lots of food, summery books, and ALL THE WATER because I am a very big water drinker.

June 19, 2013 - 4:38 am

Maggie, Young Adult Anonymous - I love this feature! Magan, love love love the sandals and the backpack. And you can’t go wrong with Sophie Kinsella. Estelle, that basket and sandals!! I’ve never shopped at ModCloth before. You guys are going to be the death of my bank account!! I have the Fuji Instax Mini 25 and I love it. 🙂

June 18, 2013 - 11:00 pm

Cassie - SUCH CUTE BAGS GUYS! E- the sunset nights theme? ADORABLE. May have to steal the idea 😉 M- I still never read Sophie Kinsella, so sounds like summer would be perfect time to start!

Love these posts ladies! <3

June 18, 2013 - 10:21 pm

Courtney @ Courtney Reads A Lot - I would love to just go to the beach tomorrow instead of work. I love the ocean and smelling like sunscreen. I love your beach bags! Those sunglasses and sandals are too cute! I also pack way too much. I would have chapstick, a hair brush (my hair wet is not a pretty picture) and then pretty much what you girls have. 😀 Great post!

June 18, 2013 - 8:47 pm

Lauren @ Love is not a triangle - This is the greatest post! Graphically and content wise. I’m always overpacking too. Plus I have kids so that’s triple the stuff. But I ALWAYS have a book and a snack and sunglasses. LOVE that camera so much and I’ve Got YOur Number is a great Kinsella. She’s my go-to summer author. Can you keep a secret is my FAVE.

June 18, 2013 - 5:39 pm

Tara - LOL Magan you are an overpacker just like me! You never know what you *might* need. Estelle, that picnic basket is so pretty…and costs more than 20 of my beach bags combined haha. I will have to admire from afar :/

June 18, 2013 - 3:04 pm

Jessie - That Kate Spade picnic basket is AMAZING

June 18, 2013 - 9:03 am

Bookworm1858 - Right now I’m reading Antigoddess so if I don’t finish it by the weekend, that’s what I’ll be dragging along. I’m in California really close to the beach but I rarely go-hoping to change that this summer!

June 18, 2013 - 8:58 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Cute! Cute! Cute! What’s inside Magan’s beach bag looks totally like her 🙂 I can see her rockin’ those shades with that hat.. and of course those sandals! Estelle, I remember seeing your “after work, at the beach” photos last summer. I may miss it as much as you, ha.

June 18, 2013 - 8:56 am

Brittany @ the Book Addict's Guide - Super cute, ladies!!! I’m like Magan. I’m an overpacker! Surprisingly it wasn’t too terrible for BEA but usually I bring WAY more clothes/books than I need to because I just never know what I’ll be in the mood for! Haha 🙂

June 18, 2013 - 8:41 am

Lisa - I’ll take Magan’s backpack and Estelle’s sandals, thanks! Also loooove the summer reading choices.

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Awesome list! Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants will always be one of my favourite summer reads, as I read the first one when I worked at a summer camp in upstate New York. It was the perfect summer weather read, curled up in an Adirondack chair on my down time.

And I’m super surprised that there’s no Morgan Matson in there?!? Magan actually passed up the chance to plug Second Chance Summer? Tee hee =)

June 12, 2012 - 6:15 pm
