Estelle: In My Mailbox (4/1/2012)

I had wanted to get this done SO much sooner but there was absolutely NO way. I spent so much extra time in the city this week because of the New York Teen Author Festival and I can’t stop raving about how great it was. (You’ll see in my vlog.) I’m going to write up […]

elena - It does sound so amazing! I loved how you described it and it really makes me wish authors came to my state. I almost forced my friend to go for me since she lives in NYC and about two minutes from where the events were taking. Ah, I know what you mean about authors! I think it’s a similar experience when I meet musicians where I’m basically like, “OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M TALKING TO YOU.” It’s so nerve-wrecking! I wish you the best with your writing. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ghenet Myrthil - Can I just say I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels super awkward about talking with authors? When I went to Books of Wonder to have Stephanie Perkins sign my copy of LOLA, I was super nervous and then quite awkward when we spoke! Haha. I feel even more like an introvert during those moments…Either way, I’m happy I got the book signed. She’s really nice!

Sorry I didn’t get to chat with you on Saturday! I hope we get to see each other again at other events in NYC. ๐Ÿ™‚

Estelle - Sharon, thanks for stopping in and for such a great comment! ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad to know you’ll be adding some of my books to your own TBR list. That’s such a great feeling. Hopefully the vlogs will only get easier or perhaps it was my lucky week. (My husband is convinced it is because he was outside of the house. ha!) Hope you have a great week of reading!

April 2, 2012 - 10:16 am

Estelle - Margie, I’m sad you didn’t make it to the events either! Perhaps you can travel in for something in the future? Yes yes yes. You must read Anna and Lola. ASAP. You won’t be disappointed and I guarantee you will want to reread them right after. Hope you have a great week!

April 2, 2012 - 10:15 am

Estelle - Mands, thanks lady! I really hope I can get to writing sometime soon. I have an idea. I just have to go forward with it. Do you guys get a lot of author events in Australia? This one was so fantastic. I could see a ton of people enjoying it all over. Ariel is the best. Anyone who could get away with wearing their bra all the time… rocks. Really. ha

April 2, 2012 - 10:13 am

Estelle - Jasmine, you must get on the LOLA train! You are going to love her. haha. She’s so much fun and very creative. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts when you get to it!

April 2, 2012 - 10:11 am

Estelle - Patricia, not childish at all! Glad you like your layout & name! Thanks for stopping in!

April 2, 2012 - 12:53 am

Patricia - It’s probably really childish, but I’m jealous of your name and also your blog-theme. Arrrrgh! XD And then there is your haul. I really enjoyed Lola! ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Reading!

Jasmine Rose - Can you believe I still haven’t read Lola and the Boy Next Door yet? I know, I’m terrible. I’ll be seeing Stephanie soon so I really need to get on that, though!

April 1, 2012 - 9:07 pm

VeganYANerds - Great vlog, Estelle! Also, I can totally see your name on the cover of a book, I am sure it will happen one day ๐Ÿ˜‰

The NY author event sounds great! It’s fun being able to meet authors and have them sign books and I love that you told Steph that she looked like Ariel, I LOVE The Little Mermaid too!

April 1, 2012 - 8:26 pm

margie c {the bumble girl} - I am so sad that I was not able to make it into the city yesterday and see everyone, sounds like you had a wonderful time! I look forward to hearing all about it!
Great books too! I have Lola but have yet to read it because I still need to read Anna first, eek! I hope to get to them this month ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks for sharing, happy reading!

Here’s my IMM too:

Sharon @ Fictionally Inclined - Congrats on your breakthrough! I hope you get to start your novel this year; that would be awesome.

I’ve never been to a signing, but I imagine it would definitely be that awkward for me. I’ve never been good at small talk, and I don’t have a lot of experience (read: any) with meeting ~famous people.~ I mean, you don’t want to put the author off by fawning over them, but if you truly loved their book, it would be nice to be able to express that to them. Quandary.

Road trip book? Count me in! Definitely checking that one out on Goodreads. I’ve read one by that author before and enjoyed it.

Hooray for Lola and the Boy Next Door! Definitely worth buying. Aah, you got to meet Stephanie Perkins? That’s amazing!

I’ve never heard of The Miseducation of Cameron Post, but it looks fantastic. I really hope my library has it.

Ahaha, congratulations on your one try! It took me three. Of course, my second one was going well until my roommate walked in on me holding a book up to my computer and seemingly talking to no one. Awkward. Anyway!

I really enjoyed your vlog. I will definitely be watching for future vlogs by you. ๐Ÿ™‚

April 1, 2012 - 6:27 pm

Estelle - Katie, Lola is such a great book. I can’t wait to reread it yet again. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for stopping in to comment!

Katie @ Call Me Crazy - I loved Lola and the Boy Next Door and Two Way Street! The Miseducation of Cameron Post sounds really good. I hope you’re having an awesome weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

April 1, 2012 - 3:28 pm

Estelle - April, I go through phases with missing college but after this week, I *really* missed it. I’m excited about Emily’s book! I think I’m going to have to sneak it to the top of my TBR pile ASAP. Hope you had a great weekend!

April 1, 2012 - 3:20 pm

April Books & Wine - I bet you’ll really like The Miseducation Of Cameron Post.

Also? I miss college. You mentioned that writing reminded you of college. And sigh, that makes me miss college.

April 1, 2012 - 3:12 pm

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - Wow, what a great week you had! I bet meeting Stephanie Perkins was really exciting! She seems really nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy your books. ๐Ÿ™‚

Estelle - Melissa, I got better when I went to the other two writers… but I felt so dumb. So dumb. It was also a http://ratherbereadingblog.com/wp-admin/index.php#comments-formreally weird set up so it was crammed and strange. haha. Oh geez. I’m so embarrassed! I get too shy. Thanks for the comment!

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I never know what to say when I meet writers either =) When I met Maureen Johnson last year, I took my husband with me, even though he had NO idea who she was and hadn’t read any of her books. He broke the ice, since he could talk to her no problem, and it helped me to be a little less star struck =)
