Magan - Andi. The hurt. My heart just hurt so badly. It was soooo sad. Thanks for letting me know you were right there with me. Man, so painful. And I think you’re brave for wanting to re-read. I don’t know that I could take it!

May 5, 2015 - 3:31 pm

Magan - ROSIE! SO FRUSTRATING! I felt like banging my head against a wall. (Not really, but I did feel like I would burst!) I absolutely love your comment. I would love if she talked about it a bit more too. I’d buy the collector’s edition JUST for that. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

May 5, 2015 - 3:31 pm

Magan - Annette, your comment perfectly sums up how I felt. Life isn’t always perfect, and I think that’s what Allegiant proved. There’s not always a happily ever after.

May 5, 2015 - 3:30 pm

Magan - Hollie! So, so glad you and I were on the same page here. We should’ve known. You’re absolutely right. I applaud Roth for being authentic, but darn if I didn’t cry a lot! 😉

May 5, 2015 - 3:29 pm

Magan - Divergent was one of the series I started before blogging, Alexa! I think that’s why it was so sentimental for me too. Though it wasn’t my perfect, happily ever ever…I understand it all. <3

April 23, 2015 - 11:11 am

Alexa S. - While I honestly didn’t want some of the things that happened in this final novel to happen, I was actually able to accept that they would. I didn’t get spoiled (thankfully!), but I knew that something big must have happened to get everyone in a tizzy. I feel you about it being the end of an era though; Divergent was one of the first YA trilogies I read the year I started blogging and that series will always be special to me for that reason.

April 22, 2015 - 2:41 pm

Hollie - You’ve absolutely summed up my entire feelings on Allegiant. I can’t say I’m happy with how it ended, but I honestly feel that there couldn’t be a more fitting ending. Looking back, and thinking about the first two books in the series, we should’ve known it was never going to be a perfect HEA, and I really love Veronica Roth more for giving us this gut-wrenching ending instead of something completely different that would feel inauthentic to the series.

April 22, 2015 - 11:58 am

Annette - No one really wanted things to turn out that way, but I, too, applaud Roth for making the difficult choices. I love it when authors are gutsy, even though they know it’s going to tick a lot of people off. Great review.

April 22, 2015 - 8:07 am

Rosie - its so frustrating when you have no one to talk to about a book isn’t it? You can talk to me though!

I completely agree with you that Veronica made the right choice to do something shocking. It made sense, and I believe that’s what Tris would have done. I think if she’d avoided that, it wouldn’t have done the series justice.

I think there’s an Allegiant Collector’s Edition coming out in the autumn, so I hope Veronica will talk about having to make hard decisions. It’s always interesting to hear why authors do things.

April 22, 2015 - 8:04 am

Andi - So. Much. Yes.

Magan, I felt what you felt. I hurt how you hurt. I cried like you cried. I mean I was a straight up sobby mess when I was done for like an hour, probably for 2 because I think I cried the last hour of the book. It was just so powerful an ending and it hurt my heart and my soul. I want to reread it again before the movie but I’m not sure I’m emotionally ready.

Excellent review!

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I finished Insurgent fairly recently (and my review is up today!) but I LOVED it. I actually saw a lot of romance in it though, despite the unromantic moments that would appear too. I still swooned a lot over Four. But, most of all, that twist in the end – incredible. Love Veronica’s writing and can’t wait for the next book!

TLA Recap + Library Conference Tips for Book Bloggers

April 27, 2012 - 5:34 am

VeganYANerds - Great post, Magan! I love all of the photos of you with the authors you met, you look so happy, I bet it was a lot of fun!

And your offer some great tips for other bloggers going to these type of events!

April 26, 2012 - 5:52 pm

Jess @ Gone with the Words - Love this post so. much. 🙂 Fantastic tips, Magan!! It was so awesome hanging out with you, and I hope to get to do it again soon!

Katy Manck (BooksYALove) - Great post, Magan! As a long-time TLA member, recently-retired school librarian, and first-year book blogger, I appreciate knowing that bloggers & librarians understand their relationship with publishers & with authors.

It’s win-win-win as long as we all get the right book into the hands of the right reader, whether it’s through a blog post, a book talk at the library, or an author signing at a bookstore.

Let’s continue to be professional and upbeat in this together (and show folks that the stinkers who put ARCs up on eBay right after ALA Midwinter are the minority that we’re trying to re-educate).

Happy reading, happy blogging, happy people!

margie c {the bumble girl} - Oh, Magan! How thoughtful of you to share all of this with us! I will be driving in for BEA this year, my first time! Unfortunately, I am only able to go in for ONE day! and I have been so very nervous as to what I should wear, what to expect and where to go. Mostly I’m hoping to meet other book bloggers 🙂
These tips are so very helpful, thank you so much!

April 26, 2012 - 11:02 am

Magan - Elena! You should definitely go to a conference! They’re a ton of fun and the networking is unbelievable. I’ve met some INCREDIBLE people at the conferences. Regarding the whole ‘look like a teenager thing’ – it really boils down to professionalism. I met some teenagers at TLA that acted more grown up than the adults did. It’s all in how you present yourself. Come to ALA in June, please? I want to meet you!!!

April 26, 2012 - 10:58 am

elena - Ahh Magan, this post is SO helpful and perfect! I’ve thought about attending a book conference before but haven’t made the plunge yet since it requires plane tickets & hotels. I really want to go to one when I’m more comfortable with blogging but wasn’t sure about them in general. Your tips are fantastic, definitely bookmarking for if I ever go in the future. 🙂 Unfortunately, the “don’t look like a teen” thing can’t apply to me because I still get asked if I would like the children’s menu in restaurants…sigh.

I also really love all the pictures you shared! I wonder what made you blush and you look lovely in all of them!

April 26, 2012 - 10:58 am

Anna - Love this. All of this.

April 26, 2012 - 10:50 am

Magan - Haha, April! I try. So hard. I just want to raise up the book blogging community and we’ll do that by acting professional. Sometimes we get a bad rep for people who just want to take. I think it’s about figuring out what we can give back, ya know?

Thanks, love! 🙂

April 26, 2012 - 10:45 am

Magan - Ginger, I’m going to cry… it was so, so awesome for me, too! I MISS YOU! I wish we could rewind and do the whole day all over again. Cannot wait for the next time we get to hang out! Love you, lady! xoxo

Added 2 of these books to my own list. So glad you had a great time at your bookish events and got to meet some great people! I think we need to trade some tips on how to not be awkward when you meet authors. Sigh. NEXT TIME.

I’m really curious what you’ll think about The Fine Art of Truth or Dare! I liked it a lot when I read it but when I thought about it, I didn’t like it as much, ha. I’m going to try to reread Divergent too before I read Insurgent! So excited to hear about Tahereh Mafi and Veronica Rossi. Tahereh has one of my favourite personalities of YA authors. I bet you’ll have a lot of fun! 😀

April 22, 2012 - 8:29 pm

VeganYANerds - I love your llog, Magan and thanks for the kind words about mine this week! <3

I LOVE the cover of Meant to Be, I want it for the cover alone as well as Second Chance Summer.

Also, I was sure my bf would laugh at my vlog but he was actually really nice when he was helping me upload it. Yours is not at all too girly, not that being girly is a bad thing 😉

April 22, 2012 - 7:42 pm

Magan - Hey Amy! It would have been SO great to see you again! I only went for a day because I couldn’t take off too long from work either. Really hoping that you and I can meet up again soon! 🙂

April 22, 2012 - 7:41 pm

Magan - Nea, I’m so glad you said you liked The Fine Art of Truth or Dare. I’ve heard it’s sort of a mixed feelings book, so I’m definitely giving it a go. I’ll let you know what I think! Thanks so much for your comment!

April 22, 2012 - 7:40 pm

Magan - Haha, thanks Margie! I know, silly husband! I guess I assumed he’d seen other IMM posts by me, but I suppose he hasn’t been watching like I thought (*shoots husband the evil eye*). You know, the lines were not terrible AT all for most of these books. The longest one was for Insurgent, but we were maybe there for an hour. Maybe. 🙂

April 22, 2012 - 7:38 pm

Magan - Thanks, Laura! I’m so excited about these books. The conference was a ton of fun. If you EVER get the chance to go to an event (TLA was $25!) you should go. Meeting the people is absolutely incredible! And yes, hoping Insurgent lands in your hands early on May 1st! 🙂

April 22, 2012 - 7:12 pm

Laura @ The Traveling Owl - What a great group of books you got. Sounds like y’all had fun at the conference.

I have to say, majorly jealous about Insurgent. I’ve pre-ordered my copy. Just waiting for May 1 to get here.

Happy reading!

Amy @ bookgoonie - Awesome, Beautiful books. I really wanted to go to TLA, but taking off the week before TAKS testing would earn me a pink slip.

April 22, 2012 - 2:47 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Wow — what an awesome batch of books you got! I wish Vancouver would have a bookish event like the ones that you’ve been able to attend! That’s sooooo cool that you met so many authors too, and got your books signed! I think I would probably die if I met Veronica Roth. I’m so excited for Insurgent, I can barely stand it. And I have to wait an extra week so that I can order it with City of Lost Souls and get free shipping. *pouts*

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on my IMM — I agree with you that book friends are the bestest! I can’t WAIT to read Variant too! xoxo

YAY for Insurgent, and SUPER YAY for you loving Cinder. I’m so pumped to read that book. Will definitely let you know my thoughts.

Also, you should definitely let me know when you’re in the Austin area. We’ll hang out! 🙂

Enjoy all your books. It sounded like you all had a great time!

Katie @ BlookGirl - You were at TXLA, too?! DARN! It seems I missed a lot of wonderful bloggers while I got lost in the aisles. LOL. Wish I could have met you, but definitely next time!

I am SO incredibly excited for INSURGENT. Since I didn’t get to snag the ARC at TXLA, I did the next best thing and pre-ordered it at Veronica Roth’s book signing last night 😉 Not too much longer to wait!

CINDER is absolutely amazing, and is my favorite read of 2012 thus far. I really hope you enjoy it. Isn’t it wonderful to have such amazing, generous friends? Go Jess! 🙂

I hope you enjoy all your lovelies and that we have a chance to meet sometime soon!
