Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish! Today we have compiled a list of 5 books each that have tricked us somehow. Was it because of faulty cover art? Was the summary in the back completely different than the actual contents of the book? Or did you expect […]

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I love how unique this topic is – it’s awesome! And the books that you guys mentioned sound like a lot of fun to read. So far, I’ve only read 3/10… We’ll see how I feel about the rest!

April 15, 2012 - 8:01 am

In My Mailbox: April 15, 2012 - […] Death’s Blue-Eyed Girls by Mary Downing Hahn (E) Seeing Cinderella by Jenny Lundquist (M) Top 10 Books that were Totally Deceiving Jersey Angel by Beth Ann Baumann […]

April 12, 2012 - 1:18 pm

Elise - Magan, I usually hate to be deceptive, but in this case I’m thrilled Populazzi made your “totally deceiving” list. Thanks for the kind words! Estelle, I’m excited to hear that Princesses of Iowa is terrific. I know Molly from The Debutante Ball, and her book is high on my TBR list!

Jasmine Rose - I just sat here and laughed to myself because OWFL sounds kind of like “awful” in my head 😛
I totally agree about Matched/Crossed. I loved Matched but Crossed didn’t feel like a part of the same series.
Noooo! I’m so sad you didn’t like The Probability of Miracles. I recently read it and adored it, but I like a good non/minimal romance sometimes.

April 11, 2012 - 10:34 am

Jenny - Magan, I totally agreed with you on Crossed. I loved Matched. I loved it more than The Hunger Games. I was so excited to read Crossed, and I still haven’t finished it. It is so boring and slow that I haven’t been able to get through it. I am glad it’s not me! I keep saying I will finish it, but there are always better books I’m wanting to read more than that one!

April 10, 2012 - 10:11 pm

Christina (BookTasty) - I’m laughing at myself b/c I actually really like the Anna cover and it has been on everyone’s list today! haha I guess I’m missing something. Oh well 🙂

April 10, 2012 - 8:50 pm

Lena - YES! I agree with almost everything in y’all’s list. ANNA has such a terrible cover, but it’s soooo ridiculously good! I was also really upset with CROSSED. I liked the cover more MATCHED, however, the story fell extremely flat. Le sigh.

April 10, 2012 - 7:19 pm

Hannah @ so obsessed with - I completely agree with you on Crossed! I really liked Matched and just finished Crossed two days ago… It wasn’t at all like I expected. I still have hope for the third book, but I’m going to be frustrated if it’s a letdown, too. Anna and the French Kiss also made my list. I really wish they’d given it a better cover!

April 10, 2012 - 4:27 pm

elena - The Princesses of Iowa and Anna and the French Kiss are definitely two books suffering from their title. I wouldn’t have even picked up Anna without all the praise either and of course, I fell in love! The Princesses of Iowa sound like a reality show for me but after your review, I’m going to give it a shot. Eek, I thought The Disenchantments had a female POV too! In fact, it’s waiting in the library for me now. I’m going to have to readjust my expectations for the book. Fantastic list, the both you of you! Now I have books on my TBR that I wouldn’t have taken a second glance at. Never judge a book by its title, I guess.

April 10, 2012 - 2:25 pm

BarefootMedStudent - The only book I’ve read (or heard of) is Anna, and that one is on my list too!

April 10, 2012 - 2:18 pm

Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl - I love that Anna is popping up everywhere. I wish publishers would pay more attention to what their covers are telling people.

Magan, I’m reading Crossed right now, and I’m only 30 pages in, but I already know exactly what you’re talking about. I’m quite frustrated with it, and am actually setting it aside for now in the hopes that I will like it more later.

Great choices, girls! Some of them I already own and am more excited to read now, and some of them I’ll have to go look for!

April 10, 2012 - 2:04 pm

April Books & Wine - I’m glad the Populazzi cover is deceiving because when I saw the cover, I was like this looks dumb, but in fact your description makes it sound good.

ALSO I FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME ABOUT ANNA. Like, what a crap cover for such a wonderful book.

April 10, 2012 - 1:25 pm

Angela @ AJ Arndt Books Blog - Anna sure made it onto a lot of Top Tens this week! Great list guys.

April 10, 2012 - 11:29 am

Sharon @ Fictionally Inclined - Anna and the French Kiss is on my list, as well.

Great list! There are a couple on there I’d never seen before, but they look very promising!

April 10, 2012 - 10:06 am

TeacherMotherReader - Me & Earl & the Dying Girl is on my list too. I just didn’t think I would like the characters that much by the end of the book. I laughed my butt off, then I cried and cried. 🙁 My review hits my blog this week.

April 10, 2012 - 9:59 am

Kristin - Ok, I guess i really need to read Anna and the French Kiss, the cover whenever I look at it screams way to YA for me lol but everyone seems to love it.

Magan - Hi Mands! Thanks! I am a big waver, I suppose. Who knew it was a thing I did? HA!

January 31, 2012 - 10:46 am

Magan - Hi Megan! Thanks so much!

January 31, 2012 - 10:45 am

Magan - Sharon: IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. Seriously beautiful. I think it’s a good idea to wait for all the books in a series. It’s hard to keep up with them w/out having to re-read. I tried to just read Crossed when Matched came out, but think I would have been more into it if I had re-read Matched. :-/

January 31, 2012 - 10:44 am

Magan - Yay! Thanks, Sasha! I can’t waitttt to read it!

January 31, 2012 - 10:43 am

Magan - Kristi, thanks so much! I will definitely have to finagle a way to keep making the vlogs. My nerves + husband watching = weird me in the vlog. Hah. Thanks so much for coming by the blog!

January 31, 2012 - 10:42 am

Magan - Ginger, YES to similar book tastes. I love it. And In Honor – wowza. Discussion must happen soon. TSK, um, just unbelievably awesome!

January 31, 2012 - 10:38 am

Magan - Alexa! Yay! Next book club! 🙂 I am going to try to read it soon as well!

January 30, 2012 - 9:38 pm

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I’m so happy I could do something so nice for someone so awesome! I sincerely hope you enjoy the book. I’m going to read it (if my schedule works out) this weekend 🙂 And all the other books you mentioned sound really great too!

January 30, 2012 - 7:55 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Oh Magan, look at your & your pretty face 🙂 I’m starting to realize that you and I share similar book tastes, which I think is AWESOME. We need to discuss our thoughts on In Honor. And as soon as you finish The Survival Kit, we must discuss that one too 🙂 Thank you for the sweet mentions!

January 30, 2012 - 6:03 am

Jessie Marie - Hey there. First off, ladies, your blog is beautiful. Really stunning. Secondly, loved your vlog; I like when the vlogs are a little bit more than just a list. So after watching that, I suppose I’ll order Wither. You’ve twisted my arm and convinced me. Maybe The Survival Kit, too!

Anywho, great list and have a great week!

Sasha - Fever was sooo gooood!! 🙂 Hope you like it!

January 29, 2012 - 8:20 pm

Sharon @ Fictionally Inclined - Great vlog. 🙂

Ohh, you got to read In Honor. I’m so envious! I am so impatient to read it because it sounds absolutely fantastic. I’m so glad it was as good as it sounds. As for the other books mentioned, Across the Universe is wonderful! ♥ I really want to read the Chemical Garden trilogy, but I’m going to try to wait until all three of them are out so I can read all of them at once. We’ll see how that works out…

January 29, 2012 - 7:58 pm

Megan - Oooh! I can’t wait to read Wither AND Fever!! Loved your blog 🙂

January 29, 2012 - 7:51 pm

VeganYANerds - Great vlog, Magan! I liked the wave too 🙂

I’m really looking forward to In Honor and The Survival Kit, they sound so good!

I’m definitely not looking forward to Fever, I didn’t like Wither very much so I don’t know if I’ll bother with the sequel

What We’ve Been Up To: A Week in Review (2)

Hey, friends! Magan here. It’s been such a fast and furious week. I don’t know where time went, and I wish I had more to show for how busy I felt. I did have time to squeeze in making a new wreath! I found the idea on Pinterest (directions are here for how to make […]

What's We've Been Up To: A Week in Review 12/18/11 | Rather Be Reading | Two Busy Girls Who Always Find Time For a Book - […] We had our annual Secret Santa at work, and Magan inspired me to me a wreath. I was going to make the same one she did, but Michaels didn’t have any of the supplies I needed. Instead, I came up […]

December 12, 2011 - 2:03 pm

Magan - Aww, yay! Thanks! It was a super fun wreath to make. I made my fall one really late in the season so I tried to make something that didn’t scream “OH SHE FORGOT TO TAKE DOWN HER CHRISTMAS WREATH!” if I kept it up until the end of January. Hah! 🙂

December 11, 2011 - 1:49 pm

Hemborgwife - That wreath is so fun and I love the muted colors for holiday decorating since you can carry into January!

Top 10 Tuesday: The Sad & Lonely on Estelle’s Bookshelf

Happy Tuesday everyone! Estelle here! So excited to take part in my first Top Ten Tuesday started by the fabulous The Broke and the Bookish. Gotta say I couldn’t help crack a smile when I saw that today’s topic was about the very sad books on my bookshelf/Nook library that I keep passing by for […]

Hemborgwife - When we moved I rid myself of all unread books since shipping was so expensive but I am regretting it now since the library has just a small selection of books in English.

On another note I had book name plates as a kid too and I am actually thinking of getting some more since I bought an old cookbook and love the name of the original owner from 1947 being in it!

November 15, 2011 - 8:40 pm

Jamie - OMG GO READ LITTLE WOMEN!!!!!! AHHHH!! lol. I fell in love as a child and read it again as an adult and still the same fondness for it. The Help was on my list too! I really do want to read it soon because everyone also raves about the movie!

November 15, 2011 - 6:02 pm

Kell Smurthwaite - Little Women is lovely but very sad.
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post. 🙂
