Top 10 Tuesday: Books That Should Be Movies

A movie made from a book is, at times, a blessing and a curse. You get all excited about seeing your favorite book translated to the big screen, and then the casting decisions start to leak and other little details, and you start to feel protective. Because when you are reading an author’s descriptions and […]

Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books - I did a little crazy dance when I read the very last item on the list (Divergent/Insurgent) because YES. TOTALLY. This series needs to be made into a film.

I love most of the suggestions for this Tuesday, you guys! They’re making me so excited ๐Ÿ™‚

Shelve It: May 6, 2012 - […] We each picked five books we wish would be made into movies. […]

Sharon @ Fictionally Inclined - The only ones I’ve read off of that list are Divergent and Shatter Me, but I agree about those whole-heartedly. The thought of actually seeing the shower scenes has me swooning already!

Also. May I address the epically awesome fact that YOU REFERENCED THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE? Because, really. That kind of just made my night. I still love that movie and watch it/listen to the soundtrack on a semi-regular basis.

Jasmine Rose - Shatter Me and Divergent would definitely be awesome. There need to be more dystopian movies out there. Have you seen In Time? It was dystopian and super good so I know Hollywood could do well with it :]

Hannah @ So Obsessed With - I already liked your blog, but my love just grew exponentially with The Lizzie McGuire Movie reference. I mean, honestly. I may or may not have Youtubed the final song scene recently… shh! Also, can we just talk about the fact that Hilary Duff is married and has a baby now. LIKE WHAT?! This cannot be real. I refuse to believe that Lizzie is a mommy.

I should be embarrassed that my comment is solely dedicated to Lizzie McGuire, but I have no shame. I loved that show back in the day. And I love you so much more for mentioning that movie.

Melissa Long - Great site and list! I would have had Divergent/Insurgent on my list, but I haven’t read it yet. I know head hanging down in shame.

May 1, 2012 - 4:13 pm

Jessie - Walk Two Moons used to be one of my favorite books. I think that that would be a great movie.

May 1, 2012 - 12:12 pm

Sarah @ Storybound Girl - Oh, yes to Wanderlove! The traveling and all of the characters would be great!

May 1, 2012 - 9:47 am

Magan - Ugh, Melissa. YES, YES, YES. It would break my heart if the botched Divergent. (Or any of these.)

May 1, 2012 - 9:46 am

Magan - Ashley, hahaha to the Take a Bow bit. It’s okay that you haven’t read it yet. (READ IT SOON!) It would be a great, great movie, I’m sure!

May 1, 2012 - 9:44 am

Magan - Tanya, even though you’ve only read Divergent, I wholeheartedly think it’s one of the best books. Maybe read Shatter Me? It’s ah-mazingggg.

May 1, 2012 - 9:44 am

Magan - Ginger, it would be awesome, yeah? I’d want to curl up inside that movie with all the beautiful places they go.

May 1, 2012 - 9:42 am

Magan - Thanks, Lori! ๐Ÿ™‚

May 1, 2012 - 9:42 am

Magan - Hahah, Anna. Seriously. Tahereh wrote some of the most amazing scenes in Shatter Me. I might have a heart attack if I see them on the big screen though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

May 1, 2012 - 9:32 am

Anna - You had my attention at shower scenes, let’s just start there. Plus: Wanderlove movie? YES, PLEASE!

May 1, 2012 - 8:27 am

Lori - 13 Little Blue Envelopes and Wanderlove are excellent choices! I would love to see those. Great list!

Ginger @ GReads! - Oh heck yes to Wanderlove!!! Man that would make an AMAZING movie. And Estelle, I love soundtracks too! They are pretty much awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ (when done right)

May 1, 2012 - 6:18 am

Tanya Patrice - I’ve only read Divergent from this list – and 100% agree, I think it would make an excellent movie.

May 1, 2012 - 4:49 am

Ashley @ Ashley Loves Books - Oh my god I about died when I saw 13 Little Blue Envelopes + Lizzie McGuire Movie in the same sentence…but oddly, I could TOTALLY see that, too! It would be a great summer movie if they were to make that book into a movie, all the traveling would be tons of fun. I included Take A Bow on my list (which is a bit of cheating since I haven’t actually read it yet), I think the premise of it could be great and all the artsy aspects would lend the potential of unique casting. I considered Wanderlove for my list too, but I had to nix it because I adore that book SO much that I can’t imagine I’d ever be able to reconcile a movie version of it haha.

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Great list! I haven’t read most of these, but agree with those choices that I have read! Divergent would make a great movie but, as you pointed out in your intro, only if it’s done RIGHT. There’s nothing more tragic than having a treasured book butchered in the big screen rendition =(

May 1, 2012 - 12:50 am

Magan - Laura, yes to dystopians and traveling tales. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d be a movie addict if they made these come to life!

May 1, 2012 - 12:44 am

marissa - Shatter Me would be fun. I so hope that the Divergent movies end up happening. I NEED them…like bad. Happy Insurgent release day!

May 1, 2012 - 12:40 am

Laura @ The Traveling Owl - I love that you mentioned the Lizzie Maguire movie. I haven’t thought about that in ages, but must admit that I saw it when it came out.

Beyond that, great choices! Really love the theme of dystopians (Shatter Me and Divergent would be awesome!) as well as the road tripping tales, like Wanderlust and 13 Little Blue Envelopes.

TeacherMotherReader - 13 Little Blue Envelopes was on my list too. I have to admit though, I wasn’t really thinking about Lizzie McGuire! Couldn’t you just imagine all those crazy characters and places that Ginny visited? It was a good book, but seeing all of the European sites would really enhance the book for me! Thanks for sharing your lists.

May 1, 2012 - 12:04 am

Magan - Hahahahaha, Alexandra! I love your comment. And yes, most definitely love dance movies despite their cheesiness. ๐Ÿ™‚

May 1, 2012 - 12:02 am

Alexandra - Dystopians and roadtrips for the win! And those shower scenes *fans self rapidly*
I love dance movies – despite an abundance of lame plots and terrible acting. They’re like the candyfloss of the film world.
