Shelve It: Zac Efron and Breaking Book Bans

Hiya! Tell me if I’m alone: you know you have to do a v-log but you are either not showered, just came back from the gym, or too darn tired to collect the books all over your apartment. This was me, so now it’s Sunday morning and I’m giving you a pajama party v-log. My […]

Leah - I can DEFINITELY get behind pj party vlogs!

Okay Liza Palmer – I need to see what all the fuss is about! At this point I think I’m the only person who hasn’t read her stuff. I’ve checked a few times and my library has a few of her books, next time I stop by I’ll have to (finally) pick one up!

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to how to pronounce Moyes. I default to Moy-es, though I’ve heard others say Moys. πŸ™ Who knows!

February 27, 2014 - 2:16 pm

Alexa S. - I still think you look pretty cute, E! I rarely have makeup on in my vlogs, so I think I’m just used to being on camera without it at this point πŸ˜‰ Anyway, your book buying to break your ban sounds epic! HAPPY READING. (PS – Read Brooklyn Girls! I’m reading the sequel now and it’s SO FUN.)

February 24, 2014 - 12:06 pm

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - So I’m at work right now, so I can’t watch your vlog πŸ™

I’ll have to watch it when I get home. I’ve only done a few vlogs, but not in ages, because, like you, I’m in my PJs and just not looking good. Although from the thumbnail, you are looking very glamorous and I LOVE your glasses.

I had decided to NOT request The Geography of Me and You, because I’m trying to not go crazy with the requesting of ARCs, but I totally caved and requested it the other day.

February 24, 2014 - 7:36 am

Alice - Brilliant haul Estelle! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ SO jealous of the gorgeous books. Pajama party vlogs are awesome! Who cares anymore anyway. You gotta vlog when you gotta vlog. πŸ˜‰ And your hair looked fabulous in it anyway. No biggie at all!

February 23, 2014 - 6:11 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - I love watching your v-logs, and honestly wouldn’t notice (or care) if your hair was messy! Looks like some great books for you this week … I hadn’t heard about the controversy over September Girls, but I’m not super interested in mermaid books anyways, so it wasn’t on my radar to begin with. But I’ll look forward to reading your review!

Also, YAY — I’m SO glad that you read (and loved) Me Before You. That was, hands down, one of my favourite reads of 2013 and I’m looking forward to reading some more of her books.

I’ve read Smack and Doing It by Melvin Burgess. He’s definitely a very “out there” YA writer because he writes about really heavy topics. I thought for some reason that he was dead, but I guess not if he’s coming out with new books?

February 23, 2014 - 4:47 pm

April Books & Wine - The Geography Of You And Me has such delicious prose, I hope you love it!

MATTHEW QUICK! My 2013 favorite!

Hah, I have not done a vlog in months because I am always just coming in from the gym or in PJs or do not feel like putting on makeup. It’s awkward. Alas.

Enjoy the new books!

February 23, 2014 - 3:29 pm

The Bookish Manicurist - I have done the same thing with September Girls, I added it, removed it, and now I want to add it again. I think I let negative reviews put me off a little too quickly!

Good to see your face, lady πŸ˜‰

Magan: We’re Not Talking About Books Q&A

Estelle and I are swapping questions and getting into the nitty gritty details… Welcome to our “We’re Not Talking About Books Q&A.” Today I’m answering Estelle’s questions and soon she’ll be answering mine. I haven’t even read her questions yet. I’m just copying and pasting them and writing whatever first comes to mind. Are you […]

Top Ten Tuesday: Let's Talk 2014 Resolutions, Magan - […] guys… I’m worn out. And no, that’s not just the pregnancy talking. I mentioned in my Q&A with Estelle that I’d like to be more welcoming and have people over more often. Maybe these two concepts […]

December 29, 2013 - 10:50 am

Bookworm1858 - Such a fun idea to share more of the personality behind the blog. I’m super late obviously but I look forward to checking out Estelle’s shortly.

December 26, 2013 - 9:00 am

Estelle: We're Not Talking About Books Q&A, Estelle - […] Good morning, friends! Β Today I’m answering some questions that Magan sent me a few days ago. I hope you’ve enjoyed this series so far! It’s been so fun to reflect on the past year together and share it with you. (If you misses Magan’s Q&A, here it is!) […]

December 22, 2013 - 1:55 am

Liz - I love reading this interview! Magan, I feel so lucky to have gotten to see how you and your family have changed in 2013. I’m really excited for you to have your baby. And I like how you talk about wanting to let people in more! That’s something I’ve found myself mulling over a great deal this year.

On a lighter note, I also recently got Naked 3 and it’s been a great purchase.

I’m looking forward to seeing what 2014 brings for you!

December 20, 2013 - 7:48 pm

Alexa Y. - I loved reading your answers to E’s questions, M! It’s such a beautiful way to get to know you a little better, and to see how 2013 has changed and shaped you. Even with all your ups and downs, I also know that it’s been a crazy wonderful year for you. I’m honored to know you and be your friend, just because you’re a wonderful person with a genuinely good, caring heart and it shows so clearly how much you value family, friends and life in this post. Love it and love YOU!

December 19, 2013 - 8:58 pm

Melissa @ Writer Grrl Reads - Omigoodness, there are no words for how much I loved reading this! Magan, you made me tear up a few times, especially at the end with baby girl kissing the snowman — too freakin’ cute!

December 19, 2013 - 7:54 pm

Christina - I love the Naked 3 too!

December 19, 2013 - 11:53 am

Lisa Schensted - I would like to second Magan growing into motherhood as an incredible thing to witness and I absolutely adored every moment of it (and will continue to do so).

I love you both to the moon and back!

oxoxoxoxoxo

December 18, 2013 - 9:55 pm

Ellie - I just splurged on the Naked 3 Palette too! So in love with it.

December 18, 2013 - 3:16 pm

Meg - Loved reading this! You ladies are awesome. πŸ™‚ And I love that Florida shot! We don’t have our travel plans locked down for next year, either, but I definitely need to plan a vacation somewhere . . . . this year was consumed by wedding chaos, but all bets are off in 2014!

December 18, 2013 - 3:06 pm

Tiff @ Mostly YA Lit - Love this series. GREAT read – you both seem like such awesome people, it’s wonderful to get to know you better.

Magan, I am the worst about letting people into my home. My husband is great at it and unashamed of our sometimes untidy place, but I feel like the worst hostess when my place looks like crap, so I know what you’re feeling. I’m going to try to be better at it next year, too, because you’re right, bringing a sense of community into your home is important.

On a lighter note, I feel the same sad way about Zefron. Rehab for coke? Yikes. And we definitely need better movies from him…”That Awkward Moment”? REALLY? =p

December 18, 2013 - 9:58 am

alice-jane - I love the new Q&A series that you’re doing! It’s so nice to get to know bloggers not only through what books they like but also through personal posts like this! The iPhone boat picture is gorgeous, too.

All the memories that you’ve shared are so precious and I hope you have a great 2014 as well! πŸ™‚

December 18, 2013 - 9:45 am

Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook - Wow, Magan, it seems like you’ve had a very busy, but good, year. As for the UD Naked 3 Palette – I just got that as well. It’s so pretty, and I think my favorite of all the Naked Palettes. So good to talk to another makeup addict.

December 18, 2013 - 9:28 am

Ginger @ GReads! - First of all, I LOVE this Q&A thing y’all got started. It’s nice to see personal posts on book blogs (something I am trying to do more of too).

Magan, I love that picture from Florida. I remember admiring your trip while y’all were there through your Instagram pics & thinking, wow! I need to visit this place. Also, that last question about the ornament and your grandmother: PRECIOUS. That’s definitely a keepsake to hold in your heart forever. I agree with Estelle that you’ve definitely evolved into this beautiful, selfless person. You inspire me, constantly.

PS – LOVE that tidbit about the groomsmen asking if your assistant was single, hehe.

What Happy Looks Like: Dream Boyfriends

Happy Tuesday pals! Today I’m celebrating the two-week mark before Jennifer E. Smith’s new book This is What Happy Looks Like comes out! (If you didn’t catch my review from last week, here ya go.) In the book, Ellie and Graham meet online when Graham sends an email and it lands in her inbox by […]

Sarah - Oh, Jesse. He’s on Army Wives now, too. I’ve always loved him so much, and since he’s only two years older than me, I think I can make it happen. Haha

March 28, 2013 - 7:05 am

Maggie @ Young Adult Anonymous - This post cracked my shit up, Estelle. My heart always Teen Beated for Jon from NKOTB. Devon Sawa! The Annexation of Puerto Rico!! Did you ever watch The Sandlot or Mighty Ducks? Mike Vitar and Vincent A. LaRusso… mmm.

March 19, 2013 - 3:15 pm

Sharon @ The Book Barbies - Oh, Joshua Jackson. ♥ He was my dream boyfriend for the longest time. (Oh, who am I kidding? He is still crazy high on the list! LOL.)

March 19, 2013 - 2:32 pm

Sara (of the Page Sage) - Jesse McCartney and Zac Efron were my first celebrity crushes! (Followed soon after by Nick Jonas and then Orlando Bloom.) I love Jeremy Jordan. His voice is INCREDIBLE.

March 19, 2013 - 1:57 pm

Asheley Tart (@BookwormAsheley) - This is the best blog post ever. EVERRR.

I just love the New Kids and I’m not ashamed that I NEVER stopped listening to them, although I did not bring my posters and magazine clippings to my house after I got married.

Oh goodness, despite my age and (supposed) maturity level, I spend so much time fangirling/swooning over handsome heartthrobs for different reasons. My #1 is James Franco BECAUSE goodness gracious have you LOOKED AT HIM? I also really love Lee Pace because of course. Justin Timberlake because has moves. MOVES, I tell you. Gerard Butler because when he opens his mouth, that perfect accent just OOPS! falls right out. *swoons* Also I’m very extremely fond of Simon Neil from the band Biffy Clyro because that voice, that voice, that voice. You can even hear his accent when he sings, have mercy.

James Franco. Jamessss Francoooo. <3

I do not have any posters on my walls anymore but I do have some musicians on my phone wallpaper and lock screen. πŸ™‚

March 19, 2013 - 12:33 pm

Nikki @ Foil the Plot - Really excited about Jennifer’s new book, especially after reading your awesomesauce review. Totally digging the concept!

My first ever childhood crush was JTT (still am kinda crushing on him, actually) followed by Andrew Keegan and River Phoenix. Unfortunately, one of them is no longer with us (thanks, bad choices!) but I’m not ashamed at all to admit that I was hard-core crushing. Oh yeah, and there was also Drew Lachey from 98 Degrees. I watched Dancing With The Stars just to commemorate my former love for the man (and I do hate that show)! Woot!

March 19, 2013 - 12:30 pm

Alexa Y. - I may or may not be obsessing over this post a little right now. Okay, maybe a LOT. But seriously, you’ve named some of my favorite hotties – Joshua Jackson, Jesse McCartney and Zac Efron (especially Zac!). I love it. I love this post. It seriously made my day.

When I was in elementary/high school, I was obsessed first with Brian (in BSB) and then with Justin (in NSYNC). I also went through a phase where I loved Duncan (from British boyband Blue) and Ben (from British boyband a1) and Shane (from Irish boyband Westlife). Is it obvious I had a thing for boy bands?

ANYWAY. Currently, I swoon over Zac Efron at any moment. And Ian Somerhalder and his awesome eyes. GAH.

Also, I am SUPER excited to read Jen’s book!

March 19, 2013 - 12:25 pm

Asti (A Bookish Heart) - Love this post! Cute was to tie the book to your real life πŸ™‚
When I was a teen it was all about Christopher Kirkpatrick from NSYNC. I’m not sure why… I can’t imagine it was the dreadlocks that won me over. I’m pretty sure it was just because I wanted to like one that no one else seemed to like. Huh.
The one that took over when I was older, and has stuck with me ever since, is Johnny Depp. I’m assuming it’s his dark and dirty vibe that wins me over, but I would do anything to just see him in person. Plus he plays guitar, and that’s hot.

March 19, 2013 - 11:38 am

Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide - Hahaha what a fun post!!! πŸ™‚
I was all about Devon Sawa too (I fell in love with him in Casper!) and that’s why I loved William from Downton Abbey so much. He totally reminded me of Devon Sawa!

March 19, 2013 - 10:59 am

Ginger @ GReads! - Oh yes, I was a Pacey fan too. It was Joey from the New Kids that littered my walls, though. Notice I said “New Kids” and not NKOTB? haha I think the acronym started after my fandom died out. I was also a fan of Jordan Catalono (Jared Leto) during the My So-Called Life days. Oh that boy!! And if we’re going way back… Brandon and Dylan from 90201 (the original!!) haha.

March 19, 2013 - 10:55 am

Hemborgwife - I used to have posters up of the guys they would put in Teen Vogue and my dad was always so embarrassed by it!
I was kinda weird though and was really into Benicio del Toro for some reason!

March 19, 2013 - 10:29 am

Rachel @ hello, chelly. - Joshua Jackson! You know he’s on my list (growing up and still to this day). Then I remember also loving David Boreanaz, Justin Timberlake & JC from ‘NSync and AJ from Backstreet Boys back in high school. But currently, I’d say Ian Somerhalder and Joseph Gordon-Levitt πŸ™‚ Such a fun post! And even though I didn’t mention Zac Efron.. I do agree that he’s pretty hot.
